“Mommy, are you okay?” Aaron asked while we were already halfway home. I didn’t look at him—I just kept my eyes on the road, still thinking about what Sir Zach said earlier.

“Yes, sweetheart, I’m okay. Why do you ask?” I answered before finally glancing at him.

It seemed like he had been watching me for a while—I caught him looking at me. I think he’s starting to wonder about my behavior since earlier.

Ever since we left the school, I’ve been quiet and didn’t even say goodbye to Amy. I just got straight into the car and started driving. Because of Sir Zach’s request, I don’t know what to do anymore.

“It’s just that... ever since we left the school, you’ve been really quiet and seem restless. Did something happen? Did Amy’s uncle do something to you?” he asked with concern.

I can’t tell him about it because he might start questioning who Sir Zach really is. And I don’t want that to happen—I don’t want my son to grow too close to him.

This isn’t the right time for him to know the truth—

"Mommy, is there something wrong?" Aaron asked when he noticed my sudden silence. I quickly turned to him and shook my head in response to his question."Nothing, sweetheart. Mommy's okay—just thinking about something," I said to keep him from worrying. The two of us were in my room, practicing for the performance we’ll be doing on Family Day. I came home to rest, but I couldn’t sleep because I kept thinking about what Lauren said earlier, which left me feeling uneasy.I’m scared of her threat because at any moment, Sir Zach might find out about Aaron. I don’t know how Lauren learned about it. I have no idea how that kind of news reached her. But I suspect someone told her. I’m still confused, but more than anything, I feel fear and worry for my child’s safety."Sweetheart, Mommy needs to tell you something… but I hope you won’t get mad," I said."Okay, Mommy. What is it?" he replied and sat beside me.I was nervous, but he needed to know the truth about his father. I didn’t want to o

I slowly turned to look at the woman sitting on the sofa. I wasn’t mistaken—it was really her.Suddenly, I felt weak. I couldn’t move my feet, and I was having trouble breathing. I didn’t know why exactly, but I think it was because of the trauma she caused me in the past.I wanted to get out of there before she recognized me.“You’re always so grumpy with your employees, Elli,” she said before standing up and walking toward me and Sir Zach.“Lauren, I’m getting pissed. Please, leave my office before I call the security guard,” Sir Zach said coldly, causing Lauren to stop in her tracks.“Okay, fine! But I’ll be back tomorrow, okay? Bye,” she said, even throwing a flying kiss, which had no effect on Sir Zach. After that, she finally left the office. But I still couldn’t calm down, because I knew I’d be seeing her again here at the company. Why did it have to be her who became Sir Zach’s fiancée? My life was finally peaceful, and I don’t want it to be messed up because of her.“S-Sir, I

  • Chasing Athena (ENGLISH)   Chapter 39: Fiancée?

He has a fiancée? When did that happen?I mean, I don’t really care if he does, but I’d have known by now, especially since we’ve been working together for almost a month. But I guess it’s good that he has a fiancée, so my coworkers won’t get any weird ideas about me.After making my coffee, I went back to the office and started working. But I couldn’t get the thought of it out of my head, and I don’t even know why. I don’t like him, and it will never happen, but why am I still thinking about it?“Athena, there’s a meeting later for the team-building next month,” Rica announced as she approached my desk.“Oh, yeah… Von told me about it yesterday. I’ll attend later, don’t worry,” I replied, and she walked away.I sighed. I had so much to do and finish, but I couldn’t seem to get through it because so many things were in the way. I wasn’t complaining, but I wish I could just tackle things one by one. After all, I’m only human, and I get tired too."IT department, good morning," I said a

None of us said a word. I stayed quiet, glancing around and avoiding eye contact with Sir Zach. We were sitting across from each other, so I kept myself from looking at him or him at me. My son sat beside me, and Amy sat beside him.I don’t even know why he’s here. I thought he had somewhere else to go, but it turns out this was where he intended to come.Honestly, I don’t care why he’s here, but why does the Lord keep allowing us to cross paths? To be honest, I’m annoyed, but there’s nothing I can do—I can’t exactly tell him to leave just because I don’t want to see or be around him. But beyond that, I’m mainly trying to avoid letting him and my son meet, because that would only increase my son’s curiosity about him.“Tita Athena, are you ready for your performance next week?” Amy asked, which confused me.What performance is she talking about? Next week? What’s happening next week?I glanced at my son, who was now looking up at me.“It’s for Family Day, Mommy,” Aaron said.I nearly

I was out of breath by the time I got here to the office. I ran as soon as I left his office. I don’t know, I just suddenly got scared by his threat. It feels like any moment, he’s going to do something I won’t like. But why did he even say that to me? I didn’t do or say anything to him to deserve that kind of threat. That guy is really crazy. That’s why I really hate it when our paths cross here at the office, because something always happens that I really don’t like, and now he even scolded me. But it feels like the Lord isn’t really listening to my prayers.“Oh, Athena, what happened to you?” asked Rusty, one of the IT guys here at the office.I quickly straightened up and faced him. I had been holding both my knees, panting when he saw me.“N-Nothing, I’m fine,” I answered a bit breathlessly, wiping the sweat from my neck. I was really sweating even though I didn’t run that far.“Where did you come from?” he asked curiously.“Umm, I just went to get something on the ground floor,”

“Athena…”“Hm?”I quickly turned, it was just Von calling me. He was leaning against the door, holding a white folder. He raised it so I could see. That must be the financial report I asked for. I’ll need that for the proposal I’m working on.“Here, Miss Christine asked me to pass this on. She has a meeting, so she couldn’t hand it to you personally,” he said as he walked toward me.Miss Christine is the head supervisor of the finance department and also one of Aaron’s godmothers. She’s kind, but a bit strict when it comes to work.“Thanks, Von,” I said, giving him a small smile.“No problem. Umm, are you still thinking about what happened yesterday?” he asked. I quickly looked away and busied myself arranging the things on my desk. But he was right, I was thinking about what happened yesterday. I just didn’t expect that because of one mistake, I would lose some of my coworkers. I couldn’t really blame Sir Zach, since he’s the boss and it’s his right to make decisions.Still, it’s jus

  • Chasing Athena (ENGLISH)   Chapter 34: Begging for Nothing

I’m the only one left here inside with my boss, who hasn’t said a word since Maurice and the others left earlier. He’s typing on his phone, and I think he’s talking to someone, but I don’t care anymore. My mind still can’t process the things he said earlier. I’m still confused, and I have so many questions that only he can answer. I want to talk to Maurice so I can understand things better, but my boss didn’t let me leave his office.I know what we did last night was wrong, but I didn’t do anything bad or get involved in any trouble. The only wrong thing I really did was drink too much and come home drunk.Could it be that I did something last night that I just don’t remember?"What's on your mind? You look awful," he suddenly said, snapping me out of my thoughts.I guess he’d been watching me for a while, but I just hadn’t noticed."I-I’m just confused about what you said earlier. About the trouble Maurice and the others got into. From what I know of them, they wouldn’t do something

"Agh! It hurts," I groaned while holding my head.Oh my god, a sudden sharp pain just hit me.I woke up because my phone suddenly rang. It was just the alarm, but it jolted me fully awake. And to think—I drank last night.I really wish I hadn’t drunk anything. Now I’m stuck with a hangover. What time is it? I need to get to work—I can't be late, especially since there's a department-wide meeting."Oh my god! I'm late," I exclaimed in shock when I saw the time. It’s already eight in the morning, and the meeting is at nine. Oh no! I’m late!"Wait... w-who is..."I stopped when I realized something. What happened last night? How did I get home?Who brought me back here?"OH MY GOD!" I screamed in shock as the memories from last night came rushing back.We were drinking—me, Paula, and some of our officemates—then some guys approached our table... and then—"M-Mr. Zach..." I covered my mouth and sank to the floor.I remember seeing him at the bar... then he dragged me out and put me in his
