Serena's POV

Kyle leaned forward in a polite smile. "Can I get you two anything? Drink something?"

Sophia and I shook our heads. "We're good," I said.

"Nothing, really," Sophia said. "We just ate a little while ago."

But Kyle wouldn't have it.

"Come on. You cannot come to my house and leave empty-handed. That is not proper," he insisted, even as he was reaching for his phone.

Earlier than we could protest again, he had already pressed a button on the console beside him. "Sandra," he said into the small intercom, "bring in the chilled bottle of non-alcoholic wine from the mini fridge. And two glasses."

He turned to us again, hands out in a no-arguments sort of motion. "It's not alcoholic, I promise. I'm not trying to get anyone drunk. I know the real party is tomorrow."

Sophia laughed. "All right, you win."

"I'm being a good host," he said offhandedly.

The maid appeared a few seconds later with a chilled bottle and two elegant glasses. She put them on the table, poured the wine, and di

Pristine's POVI leaned back into the garden chair, sipping slowly from the wine glass in my hand. It was late in the afternoon. My friend, Nadia, sat across from me, her lips curved in a sly smile, the red of her lipstick almost as sharp as her gaze.We were both in black, satin gowns. It was our thing when we didn’t want to draw attention but still planned to dominate every space we entered. Even this secluded one.“I invested in Kyle’s company,” I said, twirling my glass lazily, “hoping it would spark some kind of reaction from Serena.”Nadia’s brows lifted with amused interest. “You think it worked?”“Not yet,” I admitted. “But it will. Eventually.”Nadia chuckled, brushing her dark curls behind one ear. “I’m confused, Pristine. I thought it was Damien you were after. Now Kyle’s in the mix? Is Serena involved with both of them or what? You think Alexander’s betrayal has turned her into a player?”I narrowed my eyes slightly at the mention of Alexander. “I don’t know what exactly S

Serena's POVHis silence said everything.“I didn’t want him near you,” he said finally, “and when I saw him going in, I panicked. I thought I should warn him to back off before he messes with your head again.”"Is that all you did?" I asked, still permitting him to be completely honest."What do you mean?" he inquired."That's all you did? Just warn him?""Yes," he replied firmly. "Whatever he told you, it's likely distorted. Don't listen to him. He's your ex-husband, Serena. Of course, he'd lie to make you turn against me."I smiled weakly. The kind of smile you receive when you already know the truth."Funny," I said to him. "Because I've got the voice note."He froze. "What?"I pulled my phone out of my pocket and retrieved my saved messages. The voice note Alexander had left me played through the speaker, clear and loud.Kyle's expression crashed, his mouth agape a fraction of an inch. He said nothing until the message was finished.Silence hung between us like a heavy curtain.I

Serena's POVSophia and I dressed in haste. Nothing too over-the-top, just relaxed but sharp enough to make the appropriate point. We both knew it wasn't a casual visit anymore. It was all part of a larger picture now. Politics, relationships, tactics, everything merged together these days. After we were ready, we emerged from the room and continued down the hall to Damien's. I wanted to alert him where we were going before we left. It just felt like the right thing to do.I knocked, then pushed the door a fraction open. The room was empty. "Damien?" I yelled. No response. We checked around and then went back outside again. One of the housemaids just happened to pass by."Excuse me," I said. "Do you know where Mr. Damien went?""He just left a few minutes ago, ma'am," the maid answered discreetly. "He didn't mention where."I frowned slightly. That was not his style."He didn't say anything?" I asked."No, ma'am. He just left in a hurry."I thanked her and pulled out my phone immediat

Serena's POVI made my way down the hallway and gently pushed the room door open. She was sitting on the edge of the bed, phone pressed to her ear, her brows slightly furrowed.“Uh-huh. Yes, the delivery should be made before six. No later, please. Thank you," she said to the person over the phone.I raised an eyebrow, "What was that about?"She ended the call and looked up at me. “Furniture’s on the way.”I leaned against the doorframe. “We could have allowed Damien to handle it. Why didn't you ask Damien to help you out?”“I didn’t want to interrupt the conversations between you guys,” she said, standing and brushing invisible dust from her pants.I gave her a look. “You could’ve waited.”Sophia shrugged. “No need. I already got someone. They’ll deliver everything today, couches, beds, center rugs, full setup.”I stepped inside and sat on the arm of the chair beside her bed. “You’ve paid already?”“Down payment,” she said, walking over to her mirror and fixing her hair. “Balance on

Serena's POV“Well,” she began, pulling her phone from her back pocket, “I was thinking… why not throw the party at my new place? I mean, it’s empty, huge, and it could be our chance to really break it in. Properly.”That actually made sense.“A housewarming slash birthday party,” I murmured. She snapped her fingers. “Exactly.”Damien leaned back against the arm of the chair. “It’s practical. And safer I guess. So why not.”I gave him a sharp look. “Thank you.”He just shrugged.Sophia clapped her hands. “Perfect! Then we’ll do it. I’ll order some catering, decorations, music. It’ll be small and private. Just the right people.”I eyed her suspiciously. “Define the right people.”She smirked. “Don’t worry. I won’t invite your enemies. Just the ones you're pretending to hate.”I laughed despite myself, the tension in my shoulders easing. The idea of celebrating her win, even in the midst of the mess around me, felt right. Damien leaned forward, arms resting lazily on the armrests as he
