Serena's POV

His silence said everything.

“I didn’t want him near you,” he said finally, “and when I saw him going in, I panicked. I thought I should warn him to back off before he messes with your head again.”

"Is that all you did?" I asked, still permitting him to be completely honest.

"What do you mean?" he inquired.

"That's all you did? Just warn him?"

"Yes," he replied firmly. "Whatever he told you, it's likely distorted. Don't listen to him. He's your ex-husband, Serena. Of course, he'd lie to make you turn against me."

I smiled weakly. The kind of smile you receive when you already know the truth.

"Funny," I said to him. "Because I've got the voice note."

He froze. "What?"

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and retrieved my saved messages. The voice note Alexander had left me played through the speaker, clear and loud.

Kyle's expression crashed, his mouth agape a fraction of an inch. He said nothing until the message was finished.

Silence hung between us like a heavy curtain.

  • Chasing Back The Woman He Destroyed   Chapter 126

Serena's POVSophia and I drove back to Damien’s apartment. The city lights blurred past the window, and my thoughts were still a mess from earlier.“So,” Sophia said, glancing at me from the driver’s seat, “did you finally confront Kyle?”I sighed. “Yeah, I did. At first I tried ignoring it, but eventually, I spilled it.”Sophia raised a brow. “And?”“And nothing. He listened. Said his piece. I guess I said mine.”She hummed. “You should at least give him a chance to prove himself again.”I turned to her, narrowing my eyes. “Wow. He buys you a mansion and now you’ve become his advocate?”Sophia laughed. “Please. I’m just saying-"“No, no, I see it now,” I cut in, shaking my head. “You’re defending him because of the house.”She grinned. “Alright, fine. But admit it, you went there to play politics.”I laughed, but then stopped suddenly.Sophia noticed. "What is it?" she asked as she drove."I don't know, I have been thinking about Kyle and Alexander lately. You know there’s a strikin

Pristine's POVI leaned my head toward him. "So, who are you picking up from the airport?" His gaze remained forward. "No one important."I raised an eyebrow. "If it's not important, then why the confidentiality?""It's private."“I don't like private," I said, drawing out my tone. "Come on, Damien. Come on. You can't say you're going to the airport and not get questioned."He took a deep breath. "I'm picking up my brother."I raised my brows. "Your brother? When do you have a brother? I've never heard you say anything about him.""That's because I don't talk about family.""Why not? Bad blood?" I said, leaning slightly closer."No," he replied firmly. "We're fine. I just don't want to share personal information like that."I leaned back. "Hmm. Okay. But now I'm interested in him.""You'll see," Damien replied with a small smile twitching on his lips.I decided to play a little game with him, to discover where this will lead me.I stroked my chin. "So, I have a question to ask you."

Pristine's POVThere was a beat of hesitation on his end, but then he sighed and said, “He came to visit Serena at her hotel. I saw him and called him afterward. Said some things I shouldn’t have.”My lips curled into a slow smile. “And?”“He recorded it,” Kyle muttered. “Sent it to her. She played it back to me today.”“Wow,” I said, eyes twinkling as I looked at Nadia. “So you had her, and you let Alexander slip in between?”“I was a fool,” he said bitterly. “I got jealous. Lost control. And now she doesn’t trust me.”I leaned back into my chair, savoring the crack in his armor. “Jealousy’s a dangerous game, Kyle. Especially when you’re trying to win someone like Serena. She doesn’t take kindly to possession.”“I know that now,” he murmured.I let the silence settle, then asked, “So, the investors’ meeting, will it still hold tomorrow?”“No,” he said immediately. “I’ve shifted it.”My brows lifted. “Really? Why?”“Tomorrow’s Serena’s birthday,” he said. “And I want to focus complete

Pristine's POVI leaned back into the garden chair, sipping slowly from the wine glass in my hand. It was late in the afternoon. My friend, Nadia, sat across from me, her lips curved in a sly smile, the red of her lipstick almost as sharp as her gaze.We were both in black, satin gowns. It was our thing when we didn’t want to draw attention but still planned to dominate every space we entered. Even this secluded one.“I invested in Kyle’s company,” I said, twirling my glass lazily, “hoping it would spark some kind of reaction from Serena.”Nadia’s brows lifted with amused interest. “You think it worked?”“Not yet,” I admitted. “But it will. Eventually.”Nadia chuckled, brushing her dark curls behind one ear. “I’m confused, Pristine. I thought it was Damien you were after. Now Kyle’s in the mix? Is Serena involved with both of them or what? You think Alexander’s betrayal has turned her into a player?”I narrowed my eyes slightly at the mention of Alexander. “I don’t know what exactly S

Serena's POVKyle leaned forward in a polite smile. "Can I get you two anything? Drink something?"Sophia and I shook our heads. "We're good," I said."Nothing, really," Sophia said. "We just ate a little while ago."But Kyle wouldn't have it."Come on. You cannot come to my house and leave empty-handed. That is not proper," he insisted, even as he was reaching for his phone.Earlier than we could protest again, he had already pressed a button on the console beside him. "Sandra," he said into the small intercom, "bring in the chilled bottle of non-alcoholic wine from the mini fridge. And two glasses."He turned to us again, hands out in a no-arguments sort of motion. "It's not alcoholic, I promise. I'm not trying to get anyone drunk. I know the real party is tomorrow."Sophia laughed. "All right, you win.""I'm being a good host," he said offhandedly. The maid appeared a few seconds later with a chilled bottle and two elegant glasses. She put them on the table, poured the wine, and di
