Serena's POV

A soft push on my arm made me open my eyes. My eyelids creaked and slowly opened, and the first thing I saw was Sophia leaning over me with a mischievous grin on her face.

"Rise and shine, sleepyhead," she teased, with her voice full of playfulness and love. "Do you have any idea what time it is?"

I grumbled and rubbed my eyes. "Too early. That's what time it is."

Sophia grinned, climbing onto the bed and sitting cross-legged beside me. "It's probably nine or so now. Everyone's probably already awake."

I flailed my arms out in front of me and yawned. The party the night before was still fresh in my memory, people laughing, champagne, and the expression of shock on everyone's face when Alexander opened his extravagant gift.

"You know," Sophia began, prodding me in the elbow, "last night was incredible. The lights, the food, the music." She was effervescent, her eyes sparkling as she intertwined fingers like a kid on Christmas morning. "And that private plane. Oh my God, Se

Serena's POVElla shook her head wildly, her tears wetting her blouse. "No, Sophia, please. Let me tell you. Damien never heard the rest of the story. Yes, I made a mistake, I did, but it wasn't love. It was an error, one night, and I promise you, it never happened again."Sophia laughed loudly, the cold sound echoing through the tense air. "One night can ruin trust forever. Don't act like it doesn't matter. And Damien…"She faced me, her voice trembling with fury. "He was damaged because of her lies. He broke inside, Serena, and now she's crying like she's the victim."I swallowed hard, torn in the middle. Ella's face was smeared with desperation, her hands trembling as she stretched out towards Sophia a bit."Please… I love him," Ella panted, her voice husky. "Damien means the world to me. That night, I wasn't myself. I hated myself afterwards. If I could turn back time, I would. I swear, Sophia, I've been faithful ever since. Doesn't that mean anything?Sophia grit her teeth. "No.

Serena's POV"What?" I gasped. He nodded curtly, confirming it. "I saw it myself."My head reeled. Ella. Sweet, etiquette-obsessed Ella. And Sam, Damien's brother. The betrayal was not a crack of faithfulness; it was an open, raw wound.I shook my head slowly. "No… no, Damien. Are you certain?"His jaw was set. "Do you think I'd lie about something like that?"I swallowed hard, holding a hand to my chest. "I just can't believe it. Ella? With Sam?"Damien leaned back in his chair, his eyes black. "Believe it."I slapped a hand over my mouth, still stunned. "My God… no wonder you…" My words evaporated. No wonder he hated her presence so fiercely. No wonder he lost his temper. The power of his silence said it all that his words did not.I finally let out a breath, shivering. "Damien… that's—" I trailed off, unsure of how to go on. "That's brutal."He said nothing. Just sat there, shoulders back, eyes drowning in blackness.I wrapped my arms around myself, still frozen. "Damien…" I whisp

Serena's POVThe way she said demon, like it was a fact, like it was common knowledge. It had Sophia tossing her head back and laughing. "See? Even Ella knows Pristine is a demon!"I couldn't help myself this time. A laugh escaped.Watching Damien squirm was dessert before dinner. He narrowed his eyes, his tone cutting through the laughter like a blade. “I’m not dating Pristine. And she’s not a demon.”That, of course, only served to make Ella more bold. She leaned in slightly, her forehead furrowed, eyes raking his face. "Then what is she, Damien?"The quiet stretched. He glared at Ella, actually stared at her, and for a moment something flickered across his face."It's none of your concern," he snarled at last, voice low but commanding. "But if you really want to know, Ella, you're the true demon here."The table was silent as a tomb.I gasped, staring at him in horror.Even Sophia's smirk faltered for an instant, and Ella, sweet Ella, looked slapped. Her lips formed a round "O", bu

Serena's POVI spotted Sophia putting on earrings in the bathroom mirror."I have to clean up," I said, making my way to the bathroom. "But I won't take long. I have a feeling breakfast today is going to… be interesting."Sophia snorted in understanding. "You don't say." She tossed her hair and made for the door. "Don't keep us waiting."I rolled my eyes at her theatrics, undressed myself, and walked into the shower.Warm water hit my skin. I kept it short, though, long enough to wake myself up and shake off my mood.I changed into something light and airy a couple of minutes later, gave myself a quick glance in the mirror, then proceeded downstairs. The dining room was busy, if not crowded. Diners rushed in and out, placing down plates of steaming food and topping off glasses.Sophia was already seated at the long table, talking earnestly to Ella. The only one absent was Damien.Typical.I grumbled under my breath, "This man is trying me." He was supposed to be here. I had threatened

Serena's POVI lingered half-a-second in front of Damien's door, remaining, and then knocked lightly.A groan wafted from inside. I couldn't help but smile at my own expression as I opened the door.He was stretched out over his bed, eyes barely open, hair messy in a way I'd never seen before. "Morning," he muttered, still half-asleep."Good morning," I said, entering and folding my arms. "What's the matter with you? Did you drink too much last night?"His brow creased as he buried his face into the pillow. "No.""Then why?" I insisted, pushing myself until I sat on the bed."I stayed up late this morning," he confessed, running his hands over his face."Why?" I snapped. He exhaled slowly, as though he wanted me to drop it. "I'll tell you later. Just let me sleep now.""Later?" I angled my eye, moving closer. "No way. Tell me now."Damien opened one eye half-way to scowl at me, but when I didn't step back, he snarled and made himself get out the words, "Because of Pristine."My gut ti
