Serena's POV

I leaned forward, whispering to Damien, “Vincent is here. Do you think he’s following us?” I asked as I watched Vincent with my side eye.

Damien let out a quiet hiss of irritation, “No, I don't think so. I doubt Vincent is that jobless to follow us. This is just a bad coincidence,” he said firmly, his jaw tight. “Don’t engage him, Serena. Let him leave without drama.”

I nodded, swallowing as the choke rose in my throat, right when Vincent got to our table.

A smug smile curled at his lips. Gesturing to the woman beside him, he declared, "Meet my son's poor ex-wife."

A curse formed upon my lips, muttered softly under my breath, but I refused to look at them.

The lady beside him inclined her head with a sardonic smile curling at her lips. "What would a poor woman be doing in an elite restaurant with a renowned lawyer like Damien?" she spat out, with barely concealed disgust.

He bent close to her, his words whispered, but not whispered enough to be unheard. "Because she's a w

Pristine's POVWalking with Damien, I couldn't help but feel the way his presence took up space. He wasn't like Alexander, Alexander always seemed to command the air itself, choking with his taciturn intensity.Damien wasn't like that. He was reliable, easy, a man who was masters of the world they lived in and themselves. The sort of man I should be with. We'd reached the front door, and he opened it to let me out in front of him.Damien's car was parked next to the front door. He opened it, and I slid into the passenger side as he went around to the driver's side.He turned over the engine, the soft hum between us. "Which hotel are you going to be staying at?" he asked, his tone factual.I leaned my head to one side, taking on an air of thoughtful consideration. "Honestly, anywhere safe and clean. I wouldn't want to be any trouble.""You're not any trouble," he said, catching the gear into drive. The car accelerated smoothly.I smiled weakly, gazing out of the window, though already

Pristine's POVI stood there, seeing Alexander turn away, his shoulders stiff, but it didn't matter. He could play his cryptic, standoffish games all day long. Damien was mine.I turned back into the room, back to where Damien sat. He indicated the chair facing him."Sit down," he instructed me, his tone sharp and flat.I did, crossing my legs with care, making sure my posture remained intact. Damien's expression was unreadable."I'm your lawyer," he began, his body inclining forward slightly. "Don't try to lie to me. I need the truth. Did Alexander ever hurt you or not?"I was surprised by the question. For a moment, I blinked, my mouth opening but no sound coming out.I could see the blaze of fire in Damien's eyes, he wasn't talking as a friend, he was talking as someone who could stand up for me legally, or walk away if he felt like I was playing around.I breathed deeply, then shook my head. "No," I said finally, my voice softer than I intended it to be. "He didn't."Damien leaned

Alexander’s POVI folded my arms, fixing my father with a steady glare. “Are you threatening me, dad? That if I don’t comply with your wishes, you’ll kill me? Has it really come to that?”The words hung heavy in the room.He didn't have a ready come-back. He sat still, almost in shock at his own revelation, his eyes screwed up as if he only now realized what he'd just uttered. His fingers tapped on the arm of the chair before he did lean forward, this time speaking in a softer voice."I didn't mean to say that," he snarled. "But you keep pushing me over the walls, Alexander. Do you think I enjoy this? Do you think I want to be in opposition to my own blood?"I laughed. "You've always enjoyed it. You've always had to be top dog. Don't try to deny it."He shook his head. "You don't understand. You can make it up to yourself. You can go back to the company, get your job, your reputation back. Marry Pristine right away. I will speak with her father. I will tell him that you were drunk tha

Alexander's POV"I never touched Pristine," I claimed. "Not the way she'll try to make you think. I was the one who broke it off with her, before we could get any further. Just like I walked away from my father's company when I knew I couldn't keep living in his shadow."The room was quiet. For a second, Damien just looked at me, his eyes roving over mine as if he was weighing every word. Then finally, he exhaled."I believe you," he stated bluntly.Relief coursed through me, though I didn't let it register.Damien shifted forward, his voice softer but resolute. "You know, I believe that's wonderful. To walk away from someone as manipulative as Pristine takes a lot of strength. And to walk away from your father's company? That requires even more. Most men wouldn't have the heart to do what you've done."I swallowed hard, the words sticking more than I'd expected. "Thank you," I whispered. He smiled faintly, but it didn't reach. his eyes. "Don't worry. As much as I am her attorney, I w

Alexander's POVBut when I turned toward the door, it wasn’t Serena who walked in. It was Pristine.I let out a sharp hiss, dragging my palm down my face in frustration. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” I muttered under my breath.Pristine strutted inside like she owned the place, her heels clicking against the polished floor. Her lips curled into a smile that was far too amused for my liking. “Well, well, Alexander. Imagine running into you here.”I leaned back in my chair, jaw tight. “Imagine that,” I said flatly, my voice laced with sarcasm.Damien glanced between us, clearly sensing the tension. “Just so you know, this isn't a relationship therapy session,” he said, raising an eyebrow.Pristine chuckled softly, brushing her hair back as though she wanted to make sure I noticed every strand. “I'm only here because you said I should, Damien. Alex's presence doesn't bother me.”I shot her a sharp look. “Bloody liar.”She ignored my irritation, her gaze playful but sharp. “I never lied

  • Chasing Back The Woman He Destroyed   Chapter 167

Alexander's POVI leaned against the living room wall, observing Serena and Sophia fight their way through what was left of the crowd.Guests were beginning to leave, waiters were making rounds with collecting trays. But my eyes were still fixed on the two of them descending the stairs. I exhaled softly in relief. The evening had turned out better than I could have wished. Serena hadn't shut herself off completely, she had spoken to me, even looked in my direction. That in itself was an improvement.I hadn't visited here this evening hoping for miracles, but the fact that she hadn't turned me down in so many words provided me with some cause to hold on.I was merely trying to make up my mind what to say when I heard a woman's voice behind me. "Excuse me," she said.I turned and for an instant my mind fought to recognize the face. I didn't know her. She was young, pretty, with intense eyes."You look really handsome in person," she started off softly.I withheld for a moment, still no
