It’s been two days

Two wonderful, almost surreal days since I arrived in Paris.

Two days of air that tasted like freedom. Two days that almost made me forget the pain that lingered like a shadow at the back of my mind.

Adrian had kept me busy. He’d taken me everywhere through the charming cobblestone streets, to cafés that smelled of freshly baked croissants, to the Seine River where the golden reflections danced like sunlight on water. We laughed, took pictures, and for the first time in a long time, I felt alive.

Paris was everything people said it was. A city of romance, of lights, of memories. The air was always soft and cold, filled with laughter from strangers who looked like they had no pain in their world. And somehow, I wanted to feel that too—just for a little while.

But even paradise had ghosts.

Vincent—my husband, my nightmare—remained the same cold shell of a man. The workaholic. The perfectionist. The man who thought meetings and numbers mattered more than lives and love

The chaos hit him like a silent explosion. He didn’t even need to look at the tablet in Alice’s hands to know the disaster unfolding outside these walls. The tension in the kitchen, the tightness in Alice’s jaw, the slight tremor in her fingers as she gripped the device—he felt it all without a word being spoken.Vincent Markston, CEO, the man everyone feared and obeyed, the man who could command armies of employees, financiers, and legal experts with a single word, now sat frozen in the middle of the breakfast room, watching a storm he hadn’t anticipated.A storm with Alice at the center of it.He had seen attacks before. On businesses, on stocks, on public figures. But this? This was personal. This was reckless, precise, and malicious. Someone had aimed for Alice, and they had done it quickly—too quickly for any ordinary reaction. He noticed every detail. The headlines, the faces, the tone, the videos—scouts, competitors, the way people shouted her name only to condemn her. Plagiari

Breakfast had started calmly enough. For a moment, for a few fleeting minutes, it had almost felt normal. Almost like nothing was wrong. Almost like the boys were just… kids. Like the sun was shining, the kitchen smelled like food, and the world hadn’t conspired against her yet.But the quiet tension, the fragile peace she had worked so hard to maintain, evaporated faster than she could swallow her first bite.Mary Jane appeared at the door quietly, almost ghostlike, eyes wide and cautious, a small figure trying not to intrude. Her hands were shaking slightly as she held out a tablet.Alice’s heart clenched instinctively.“What is it?” she asked, rising slightly from her chair.Mary Jane’s voice was soft, hesitant. “I… I’m sorry, Alice. I didn’t mean to ruin breakfast. But you need to see this.”Alice took the tablet slowly, as if it were a fragile object that could break in her hands. The boys, absorbed in their own plates, glanced up curiously, sensing that something was different.

Morning came quietly.Too quietly.I woke up slowly, staring at the unfamiliar ceiling above me, my mind taking a few seconds longer than usual to remember where I was. The penthouse was still, wrapped in that strange early-morning hush that only places too big for their own good seemed to have. No traffic noise. No neighbors. Just soft light filtering through the tall windows and the faint hum of distant appliances. For a moment, I lay there, listening. Then I heard it.Soft footsteps.Small voices. My boys.I pushed myself up immediately. The bed was too large, too smooth, too impersonal. Everything here reminded me that I was standing on ground that had never been meant for me. Vincent’s space. Vincent’s world. A place I had once tried to belong to—and failed.I washed up quickly, tied my hair back, and stepped out of the room. The hallway smelled faintly of fresh bread and something warm—something comforting.Cooking.I followed the scent to the kitchen. The staff had already prep

Nothing was going the way it was supposed to.Nothing.I stood in the middle of my living room, phone clenched in my hand so tightly my fingers hurt, staring at the blank screen as if it had personally betrayed me. The air felt thick, heavy, suffocating—like the walls were closing in, like the world itself was conspiring against me.The plan didn’t work. Not just failed. It collapsed .I had calculated every step. Every reaction. Every possible outcome. I had watched Alice for years—her patterns, her weaknesses, her stupid sense of morality that made her predictable. The plagiarism accusation was supposed to be the final blow. The thing that pushed her out of the picture completely.Out of my life.Out of his.And yet—She was still standing.Worse, she was still winning.I slammed my phone onto the table.“Why is everything always on her side?” I screamed into the empty room.My voice echoed back at me, sharp and ugly, but it didn’t make me feel better. It only made the silence after

If anyone had told me this morning that I would end the day dancing to a children’s song in my penthouse—with a ridiculous cap slipping over my eyes while my assistants laughed—I would have had them escorted out for psychological evaluation. And yet. Here I was. I stood in the middle of my living room, sleeves rolled up, jacket discarded somewhere I couldn’t remember, the polished marble floor now a playground. Music blared from a tablet one of the staff had hastily connected—some absurdly cheerful children’s song with exaggerated lyrics and an infectious rhythm. “Again!” Dillion shouted, bouncing on the couch. “No, no—like this!” Darling corrected, hopping down and demonstrating exaggerated movements, arms flailing with dramatic seriousness. I stared at them. Two tiny humans. My humans. “Dad,” Darlene said, placing her hands on her hips, face scrunched up in deep concentration. “You have to wash and learn . That’s how the song goes.” I raised a brow. “Wash and learn.” “Ye

The meeting dragged on longer than it should have.Too long.By the time I stepped into the boardroom, I already knew they were upset. I could feel it in the air—the tension, the impatience, the way conversations stopped the moment I entered. Directors sat stiffly around the long glass table, fingers tapping, brows furrowed, eyes sharp with calculation rather than trust. This wasn’t about creativity anymore. This was about money.Stocks.Fear.“We need to address the situation immediately,” one of the directors said before I had even taken my seat. “The plagiarism issue is spreading faster than expected.”Another nodded. “Investors are uneasy. They don’t understand what’s happening, and uncertainty is dangerous.”I placed my tablet on the table and slowly sat down.I was tired. Not the kind of tired that sleep fixes, but the kind that settles deep in your bones—the exhaustion of constantly defending yourself when you know the truth but aren’t allowed to reveal it yet.“I’ve already ex
