Raya looked down.

Raven’s words still echoed in the air—Too good for my brother.

Raven squeezed her hand. “Let this go, okay? All of it. Step back from the mess. From him. Focus on your reason for being here. There are good guys around, Raya. Guys who don’t need fixing. Who won’t tear you up on the inside.”

She smiled.

“Noah’s not your story. He’s not your person. He’s just bad news.”

For a second, it was quiet again.

Then something happened.

Raya pulled her hand from Raven’s.

Gently. No anger.

But with purpose.

And she stood.

Just like that.

Raya took two steps forward away from us.

Immediately, Raven’s gaze flickered to mine. She stared with a look that asked, Did I say something wrong?

I shook my head.

Raya paused and turned. Her eyes met ours.

That was all it took.

Raven rose from the couch. She couldn’t hold it in anymore. The guilt had crept in, rising faster than she could manage. She stepped forward, lips parting to speak.

But before a word could leave her mouth, Raya lifted a

I screamed. Loud. Raw. Like a wave exploding after building for too long. The whole room went silent. Both of them froze.Raya was standing—barely—chest heaving, face soaked in tears. Raven was panting hard, her fingers trembling at her sides. They were just inches apart.I let my bag slip from my shoulder. It hit the floor with a loud thud. Then I marched over to them, heart pounding, jaw tight. My voice dropped, low and sharp. “Get out.”Raya’s eyes widened. “You’re… asking me to leave?”I didn’t answer. I stepped closer and repeated myself, firmer this time.“Raya. Get out.”The tears on her face multiplied. Her lips parted to speak, but nothing came.I didn’t care. I didn’t want another word from her. Not one more sentence. Not one more cry about saving Noah. She could fall off the edge for all I cared. I was done. I was done watching her rip herself apart for a man who would never be hers.“Get out,” I shouted again. “Go! Leave!”She flinched like I’d slapped her.“We don’t have

Behind me, Raya began to sob again. She was trying to speak, but the words kept choking in her throat. All I could hear was the broken sound of someone fighting hard to explain their pain and losing the battle every second. Then, through the silence, her trembling voice broke free.“Please, Mia…” she said, breathless. “Please. I’m sorry for what I said earlier. It was never my intention for things to turn out the way they did. I didn’t mean to accuse you.”My heart clenched, but I didn’t turn around. Her voice kept shaking. “I just… I don’t know what to do anymore. I love Noah. I know he loves me too. I can feel it, Mia. He’s just battling with things nobody else can see. But I see them. I see him. I know he’s scared. I know he’s pushing people away. But I’m not giving up on him. I can’t.”I stood still, every muscle in my body tightening. I didn’t speak, and I couldn't move either.“I need your help. Please. I’m begging you.”That word—begging—it crushed something in me. Because I th

Raya’s eyes brimmed with frustration. Her voice cracked as the words tumbled out—faster, looser, more broken with every sentence.“I came here thinking I could talk to you both. That maybe, just maybe, someone would understand what I’ve been feeling—what I’ve been seeing in Noah. But now I’m the fool for thinking I ever stood a chance.”“No one said that,” I said quietly.Raya looked down, jaw clenched, like she was holding something back.Tears?A hundred emotions passed over her face—hurt, humiliation, maybe even regret—but none of them settled long enough for me to name them.Raven sat up straighter but didn’t speak. Her gaze stayed fixed on the floor, shoulders caved slightly inward.I began pacing, running a hand through my hair.None of this was supposed to go this way.The air was thick. Tense. Each of us trapped in our own version of the moment, trying to pull meaning from what had been said—or what hadn’t been said at all.Raya stood rooted near the edge of the rug, breathing

Ray's fists balled slightly on her knees. “But I won’t. I want to prove to her that not everyone’s afraid of her twisted games.”Then her tone changed. Softer now.“But Noah…”Raya paused. Her brows pinched. Her head tilted slightly, like she was listening to a thought as it passed.“There’s something about him. Something I don’t understand yet. Something he’s hiding. And every time I feel close to it… close to pulling it up…”Her voice trembled just for a second.“It slips away.”Suddenly, she sat up straighter. Her eyes finally lifted from the rug, settling on Raven, then on me.“That’s why I’m here. I need your help.”The room shifted with that one sentence.Raven and I looked at each other. A silent, fast exchange. Then our attention went right back to her.Raven was the first to speak. “Our help?”Raya nodded.I leaned in slightly. “Why us? What makes you think we’re the right ones to help you? And what exactly do you need help with?”She exhaled slowly, as if letting go of all h

As soon as I heard the knocks, my eyes flew open.Raven froze mid-sentence.We both turned to the door.“You expecting someone?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.“I was about to ask you the same thing.”Another knock. This one firmer. We both just stared at the door.Neither of us moved.“Get it,” I muttered, already pushing myself off the couch and dragging toward the hallway.“Coward,” she muttered back, rolling her eyes.I was halfway to my room when I heard the soft creak of the front door opening behind me.Then Raven’s voice—quiet. Almost shocked. She called out a name.Just one name.My steps halted.Slowly, I turned. She was standing in the doorway.Raya.Hair neatly tied back. Clothes untouched. Face blank. No emotion. No words.Just her.Like a ghost wearing skin.Raven didn’t move. Neither did I.She stood in front of the door, shoulders stiff, eyes fixed on Raya. But it wasn’t really at her. It was like Raven was staring through her, seeing something else entirely
