Chapter 2

مؤلف: Ferrycraft
Tobias didn't believe Glenn, but he didn't argue either. Seeing the bruises in the crook of Glenn's elbow wiped the anger from his face.

He scoffed. "They actually believed a junkie's accusations, huh?"

With that, Tobias had someone bring him Glenn's blood test results. The results were exactly what he'd expected.

He turned back. "No one's going to believe a man who's not in their right mind. Glenn, if you insist on pinning this on Celeste, I'll hire the best lawyers in the country to clear her name."

It felt as though something inside me had been ripped out.

Three years had passed, and he still hadn't changed. He still rushed to defend the woman he loved, unable to stand seeing her treated unfairly. Only now, that woman was Celeste.

Glenn lowered his head and chuckled.

"Sunny, Lucky… I won't be able to protect you anymore."

Tobias' fingers went rigid as he reached for the doorknob. A beat later, he turned back stiffly and asked, "What did you say?"

Glenn's face gave nothing away, yet an icy chill seemed to emanate from him.

"Sunny and Lucky," he said, enunciating each word clearly. "Those were the names of Ms. Parker's unborn babies. She was carrying twins, wasn't she?"

Tobias' throat tightened. He clenched his fingers, hidden from view.

Sunny and Lucky were the nicknames we'd chosen for our babies. When I found out I was pregnant, I hadn't gone out of my way to hide it. But aside from Tobias, no one knew I was carrying twins.

"Did Adeline tell you about the babies just to frame Celeste?"

A faint tremor crept into Tobias' voice, but he spoke with the same cold detachment.

Suddenly, something occurred to him.

Tobias shot Glenn a contemptuous glance and added, "Yes, Adeline was carrying twins. But by the time she divorced me, she'd already had an abortion.

"Glenn, I don't know why you're trying to frame Celeste, but Adeline lied to you."

The divorce papers hadn't been the only thing delivered to Tobias that day. There had also been a report confirming that I'd had an abortion.

After seeing that, he'd finally given up trying to stop me from leaving and signed the papers.

Cold metal chains bound Glenn's wrists and ankles, but his eyes burned with a wild intensity as he said, "What if I told you the babies were still inside her when she died?

"When we sealed her inside the plaster, the heat blistered her skin all over. An hour later, her arms and legs had swollen and turned purple, and her cries for help had grown fainter."

He continued, "Yet, she remained curled up, desperately trying to shield the babies inside her. Then, the plaster sealed her mouth shut, and she stopped breathing."

As I listened to Glenn describe it, I relived my final moments—the searing heat against my skin and the desperate struggle to draw breath. Despair washed over me again.

Tobias' expression darkened at once.

However, Glenn seemed oblivious to his reaction. A wicked smile played on his lips, and he asked, "Aren't you looking for the hidden body? 63 Ninth Lane, Bayview."

The moment Tobias heard the familiar address, he froze.

My sculpture studio was at 63 Ninth Lane. He often picked me up after work at the school, but even more often at my studio. It was also where he'd cheated on me with one of my students.

I couldn't bear to see talented students' potential go to waste simply because they lacked the means to develop it. Celeste was one of them.

That was why I'd given her a key to my studio and let her practice there whenever she needed to.

Celeste was so grateful that she began treating me like an older sister. On top of that, she was always the first to arrive for my classes and the most attentive student in the room.

Summer weather could be unpredictable. The forecast hadn't called for rain, but the skies opened up. I was only trying to help, so I asked Tobias to give Celeste a ride.

Two weeks later, I stood upstairs and waved at the familiar car. Then, I saw Celeste rise on her tiptoes and kiss Tobias, the man she'd greeted with such familiar affection every day.

My smile slowly faded.

That day, Tobias and I got into a terrible fight. I threw Celeste out, and Tobias swore he'd never set foot in my studio again.

At the memory, Tobias went rigid, and he turned to leave.

Before he walked away, Glenn had one last thing to say.

"When you find the body, run the prints. Check them against Celeste's. After all, she was the one who poured the plaster into the mold."

But Tobias had no idea how I truly felt. After all, the living and the dead were separated by a gulf no one could cross. He couldn't see or hear me, and we couldn't communicate.Later, the court sentenced Glenn and Celeste. Their fingerprints on the plaster provided conclusive evidence against them. Celeste had tried to leverage her relationship with Tobias, but he'd refused to visit her even once. Guilt over what had happened to me weighed so heavily on him that he couldn't bear to see her. However, Celeste had used me to persuade Tobias to visit her. She promised to tell him what I'd said before I died, but only if he agreed to come. So, Tobias agreed to see her. The moment Celeste saw him, her eyes lit up. "Tobias, you came!" She played the victim and said, "Tobias, it's so cold in here. I miss you and our daughter. Can't you get me out of here?"Tobias had no intention of discussing anything else with Celeste. He stared coldly at her through the glass. "Celeste, I ca

For a long while, Tobias said nothing. He was stunned that Celeste had admitted it all without a flicker of shame. He'd never imagined that Celeste had killed me because she thought she was making the choice for him. Because Tobias hadn't pulled away from the kiss that day, Celeste had started hatching one plan after another. And he'd become part of her scheme, the final factor that had led to my death.Tobias' breathing grew ragged as he called the police right in front of Celeste. "Send someone to the hospital room on the third floor. Celeste White was Glenn Harris' accomplice."Celeste stared at him, incredulous. "Tobias Clark! Have you lost your mind?" She'd expected Tobias to take her side. She thought he'd help keep it under wraps, or at least delete anything that could link her to it, for the sake of their daughter and their family. What she hadn't expected was for him to go straight to the police and turn her in. Tobias looked at Celeste indifferently, and I sudden

Tobias remembered that I'd stopped responding to his messages after sending him the divorce papers. He'd assumed I wanted to cut him out of my life for good. After all, I'd been heartless enough to end my pregnancy when I was five months along. So when I stopped replying, he gave up on me completely. Later, Celeste started texting Tobias regularly. At first, he firmly turned her down. But gradually, he got used to having her around. By the time she graduated last year, the two of them were together. Tobias thought back on the past year. During every moment he'd been happy, I'd been buried in the plaster, unable to breathe. Something dark settled over him, yet he couldn't name it. All he felt was the weight on his chest.…Tobias had barely gotten into his car when a message from Celeste popped up. It read, "Tobias, the baby's crying. Do you think she's hungry? When are you coming back?"His expression darkened at once. Celeste was the reason Tobias and I had ended up like

In the next instant, Tobias struck Glenn so hard that he crashed to the ground. He kept punching the latter, each blow landing hard."How dare you!" Tobias roared. His voice was thick with barely restrained fury, and he'd lost all control. All he wanted was to tear Glenn apart with his bare hands. The other detectives rushed over and pulled them apart. Tobias struggled against the detectives restraining him, still trying to get at Glenn. "Why?" he shouted. "Why did you seal her inside that sculpture?"Glenn wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, then said, "Why? I was just trying to help a student who'd been bullied!"Detective Clark, you were the one who publicly said Adeline had bullied Celeste. I couldn't just sit back and watch, so I helped her. That's all."Tobias was still seething. "You killed people over bullying? Glenn Harris, don't try to hide behind that excuse! Every one of those 17 people you killed was innocent!"Glenn's smile turned cold and sinister.

Tobias whipped around to look at the officer who had spoken. The man was standing before a sculpture. The rest of the team joined him, crowding in so tightly that Tobias couldn't make out the face. Unable to believe it, Tobias murmured, "How could this be? How could it be Adeline? She'd even signed for the divorce papers…"He moved stiffly toward the sculpture, still clinging to the last thread of hope. Maybe it was another victim. Tobias' pace slowed as a growing sense of dread threatened to overwhelm him. Just then, he heard one of the officers say, "Long hair. Plaster sculpture, approximately five feet three inches tall, and has a prominent baby bump. Most of the details match Detective Clark's deion. "Some parts sound hollow when tapped, while others sound dull. We've recovered fingerprints from the plaster. We're using X-rays to confirm…"As the officer listed his findings, Tobias' mind reeled. He stood there in a daze and stared at the sculpture. In the next instant

Just like that, Tobias scooped Celeste into his arms and carried her into the ambulance. I'd nearly lost our baby, yet he'd accused me of nothing more than jealousy. I stared at his retreating figure and felt something inside me die. Determined to clear my name, I tracked down whoever was spreading the rumors online. To my shock, Celeste herself had started them both times. She'd staged the whole thing to make herself look like a helpless victim of bullying. I sent Tobias the evidence, but his expression grew colder. "So, you're telling me she deliberately trashed her own reputation? "Adeline, even if you're trying to shift the blame, you don't get to turn around and accuse the victim."Behind him, Celeste gave me a faint, knowing smile. I understood at once. She had gotten exactly what she wanted. She'd driven a wedge between Tobias and me. Devastated, I took to social media and accused Celeste of having an affair with my husband. Tobias fired back with a scathing resp
