LOGINKiaria’s Pov
I let out a sarcastic smile. “Leo Williams” I replied in a sarcastic tone.He smiled, trying to act familiar. "Kiaria, it's so great to see you again. You look... stunning." Looking at him, I couldn't tell what my emotions were playing at. Was it anger, sadness, or something else entirely? All I knew was that I wasn't happy to see him but my heart was racing, and I couldn't tear my eyes away from him. “I said you look stunning,” he repeated, this time around, his voice became softer like he really needed me to acknowledge his compliment. “Oh of course, I know” I had to answer him that way to let him know I'm no longer the timid kiaria he used to know. “Oh I see you guys have already met,” Mark said with a surprised look. Leo chipped in immediately, “Yes, she's my wife” moving closer to hold me asif I’m one of his possessions. “Don’t you dare come close to me.”I said with a wide rage of anger in my eyes, staring at Leo. “Ex-wife,” I said loud enough that everyone in the room heard me. The tension was so thick and I could feel everyone’s eyes in our direction, but I just don’t care. I had to put him where he belongs. Mark was just gazing at us with a surprised look. His eyes went from one person to the other. He then broke the silence.”Well, regardless of whatever relationship you both had,I’m sure we can be able to focus on the task at hand, which is why we are here,”he said, gesturing towards the proposal documents on the table. Before Leo could say anything, the door to the conference room opened and Miriam strutted in, heels clicking against the tiled floor. The sound announced her arrival even before her presence did. She was dressed to impress as always and was wearing a self-satisfied smile that vanished the moment she laid eyes on me. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” Miriam sneered, glaring up at me. “What the hell is this thing doing here?” I faced her with a cold smirk. “Slut like you don't speak when my presence is involved.” Miriam tried to raise her hand up to slap me but I held it. “Don't ever dream of this act again, or else…” i dropped her hand forcefully, while Miriam is still foaming with rage. “Well to answer your question,” I continued, my voice steady and confident, “I'm here because the company recognizes talent when they see one. Something you wouldn't understand because you don't have it.” Miriam's face flushed red. “Mark, this woman is completely unprofessional! You can't possibly think she's the right person for this project!” Mark chuckled and shook his head. “On the contrary, Miss Miriam, Kiara is the major person we want for this project. Her reputation speaks for itself.” Miriam glanced nervously at Leo whose jaw was tightening. The cracks in his composure were starting to show. I stepped closer to Miriam, my voice low and firm. “You know Miriam, you have spent years trying to tear me down, but guess what? I'm still here and thriving. You can't stop me no matter how hard you try.” Miriam was already red and was about to rush me, when Leo grasped her wrist and said, “stop it Miriam, you are just embarrassing yourself.” he hissed. “If you don't want to be here anymore, you go home. Besides, I can handle this without you.” Miriam froze immediately, her arms shaking in his grasp. Her mouth fell open as humiliation and shock was written all over her face. “Leo! You're supposed to be on my side!” Leo sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “This is neither the time nor the place for dramas, Miriam.” he said, sounding so frustrated. I smirked, watching the drama between the two betrayals in front of me. “Trouble in paradise? So Leo does fight Miriam? Interesting” I just soliloquized to myself and smiled in satisfaction. Then I turned sharply to Mark and said, “I'll make this really clear, I'm not working with the Williams & Co. company. If this project involves him in any slightest way, I will have to decline.” The atmosphere grew quiet suddenly. Mark broke the silence. “Oh no Miss Kiara,” he began, “you are the lead designer here, we called you specifically for this project, you can't decline now.” He turned to Leo immediately “Leo I thought your company was prepared to collaborate with the best?” “Yes I…uh..we…” Leo stammered, he was clearly lost for words. Mark continues “ I don't think Miss Kiara wants to work with you, so this means that we won't be needing your company for this project anymore.” “No Mark, we can figure something out, “ Leo said. I raised an eyebrow, folding my arms. “You mean, you'll figure out how to step aside right? I said, my voice filled with disdain. “Because if you still think for one second that your involvement is going to remain the same, then this deal is off the table.” Leo’s knuckles became white. He could hardly speak above a whisper, his fist clenched and the frustration he felt was written all over his face. “Very well then,” he finally said. Let's have a deal.” I smiled, seeing the cold sweat on his brow. The tables had turned and for the first time in five years, I felt truly in control and I was just getting started.Kiara’s POVThe way Leo said it made the entire room go quiet for a second. Even Alex stopped talking.Leo grabbed his keys from the table and started heading for the door like the conversation was already over.My chest tightened immediately.“Wait.”He didn’t stop.“Leo.”This time he paused slightly but didn’t turn around.“We’re not just rushing into some warehouse blindly.”Now he looked back at me.“And what exactly do you suggest we do?” he asked. “Sit here and wait for another picture of Sophia crying?”That hit me hard. I swallowed quickly.Alex stepped in before I could answer. “Nobody said we should sit around. But we need a proper plan first.”“We already wasted enough time.”Leo’s voice stayed calm but I could hear the anger underneath it now. Barely controlled.Alex folded his arms. “What if they’re armed?”“We would stay vigilant.”“And if there are more people there than we expect?”Leo looked at him flatly. “Then we adapt.”I rubbed my forehead slowly because honestly
Leo’s pov“My investigator found something.”The moment Alex said those words, the entire atmosphere in the room shifted.Kiara straightened immediately beside me, her fingers tightening around the edge of the couch cushion. The tear stains on her face were still visible, but right now fear was winning over exhaustion again.“What did he find?” she asked quickly.Alex pulled his phone out and glanced at the screen before looking back up.“One of the traffic cameras caught the SUV about twelve minutes after it left you.”I stood still instantly. “Where?”“The Harbor Freeway heading toward Vernon.”My jaw tightened slightly. “That fast?”Alex nodded once. “But that’s not the interesting part.”I folded my arms slowly.“Continue.”“He said the SUV disappeared from traffic completely for almost seven minutes.”Kiara frowned. “What does that mean?”“It means,” I answered before Alex could, “they switched vehicles.”Her face drained instantly. “No…”Alex nodded grimly. “Most likely inside a
Kiara’s POVI sat curled slightly into the couch, my fingers locked tightly together while Leo paced across the living room like a man seconds away from snapping. His phone stayed in his hand. Every few seconds, the screen lit up.Calls. Messages. Location updates. But none of it could bring Sophia back. His control was barely hanging on.“What exactly can your investigator pull?” Leo finally asked without stopping his pacing.Alex leaned against the dining table with folded arms.“You will see for yourself.”I noticed the way Leo’s jaw tightened slightly.Alex glanced toward me immediately, probably noticing the change in my breathing.“Kiara?”“I’m fine.” It came out too quickly. Neither of them believed me.I looked down at my hands, they were still shaking. I pressed them harder together.“Stop shaking.” I muttered.“You should drink something,” Alex said quietly.“I said I’m fine.” This time my voice cracked slightly.Leo’s pacing slowed, before he stopped completely. I felt his
Kiara’s POV“Kiara, keep driving!”Leo’s voice rang sharply through the speaker as my hands shook violently against the steering wheel. The SUV stayed beside me for two terrifying seconds before suddenly swerving back behind my car again. My heartbeat was so loud I could barely hear properly anymore.“Oh God… oh God…”“Focus,” Leo ordered. “Don’t let them box you in.”I swallowed hard and tightened my grip.Cars blurred around me as I switched lanes again. A horn blasted angrily somewhere behind me, but I barely noticed. The masked man’s face kept replaying in my head. That smile. That gun.“Kiara.” I blinked quickly.“What?”“Look ahead.”“I am looking ahead!”“No, you’re panicking,” he snapped. “Breathe properly and listen to me.”I tried. God, I tried. But every part of me felt like it was shutting down.“They’re still following me,” I whispered shakily.“I know.”“How do you sound so calm right now?”“I’m not calm.”The coldness in his voice made my chest tighten.“I’m trying not
Kiara’s POVThe line went quiet after that. But Leo didn’t hang up. Neither did I.I could still hear him breathing on the other end, heavy and uneven like he was trying very hard to stay calm.“They touched my daughter,” he repeated quietly. My chest tightened painfully again.I looked down at Sophia’s picture once more and immediately looked away. I couldn’t bear it.The fear in her eyes, the tears on her cheeks… “Oh God,” I whispered shakily.“Kiara.” Leo called out.I swallowed hard.“Yes?”“Look at me.”A broken laugh escaped me immediately.“You’re on the phone, Leo.”“I know,” he said sharply. “But listen to me carefully.”His tone made me straighten slightly.“Don’t panic okay.” But I am already.“Just breathe,” he continued. “And you’re going to stay exactly where you are until I get there.”I quickly wiped my face. “What if they hurt her to get to you?”“They won’t.” The certainty in his voice startled me.“How do you know?”“Because if they wanted her dead, they wouldn’t b
Kiara’s povMy hands were shaking. They were trembling so badly that I had to tighten my grip around the steering wheel just to keep the car steady. The black SUV with dark tinted windows was still behind me.Same distance, same slow movement that matched mine too perfectly to be a coincidence. My breathing turned uneven. I glanced at the rearview mirror again and swallowed hard. Forced my eyes back forward, trying to calm the storm building inside my chest.Think, Kiara.Panicing wouldn’t help you right now. But it was difficult not to panic when every instinct in my body was screaming that something was wrong. My phone buzzed suddenly against the passenger seat.I flinched so hard the car swerved slightly.A horn blasted from another lane.“Damn it,” I whispered shakily, steadying the wheel again. The screen lit up. It was an unknown number. My heart dropped instantly. For one second, I just stared at it ringing before I answered.“Hello?”Silence. I frowned slightly.“Hello?” I repe
Leo’s POVI just couldn’t watch her leave just like that. I really love her. Yes, I said it. I love Kiara, and I’ve never stopped loving her.Watching her drive off, just feels like I've lost her forever, since the project is over.I know it sounds crazy, but I needed to see her again. Talk to her
Kiara’s POVIt was finally the day of the launch.I stood in front of the full-length mirror in my dressing room, staring at my reflection longer than necessary. My heart was pounding loudly against my chest, betraying the calm expression I was forcing on my face.Breathe, Kiara. You’ve got this.I
Kiara's pov "Why didn't I think of this earlier?" I muttered to myself as I paused my walk. "Miriam..I should have added her to the list. Just imagine her in my office running all the major errands and swallowing down all the insults I will dish out to her. That would be hell for her. I can imagin
Leo's povA sleek black car had pulled up, and a man stepped out, a man I recognized instantly. Alex Carter.I froze, watching as he walked around to greet her, his face lighting up in a way that made me clench my fists.
