Helena.

My chest sank instantly to my stomach, "What happened?" I asked quickly, my brows furrowing into a taut frown.

"Everything." He replied. That word landed between us like a lead weight.

I closed my eyes, bracing myself for whatever came next. "Talk to me." I said, opening my eyes slowly.

"Three of our major sponsors have already frozen their contracts."

I gripped the edges of the phone tighter until my knuckles began turning a sick white.

"Two board members are already calling for an emergency meeting."

A sharp, throbbing headache began to beat behind my eyes.

"And the investors are already circling, asking whether you're going to step down."

My chest tightened, restricting my airway. No, no, no, no. This can't be happening. Not after everything. This is unravelling too fast.

Then, Victor dropped the one piece of news I never saw coming.

"The security footage is gone." He said slowly.

I froze completely, the phone almost slipping out of my grasp. "What do you mean, gone?"

"The arena footage from last night." His voice sounded incredibly strained, stretched to its absolute limit. "All of it."

A sick, terrible feeling settled deep into the pit of my stomach.

"That's impossible, Victor."

"I thought so too." I could hear the chaotic rustling of papers on his end. "But it's not just the main feed. The backups are wiped, too."

The room started to tilt slightly to the side. Someone had gone in and deleted everything.

This wasn't a panicked cover-up. It was a sudden burst of revenge, a meticulous preparation with calculated planning.

Whoever did this knew exactly how to dismantle us. For a long, agonizing moment, I couldn't even find my voice.

Then, I force the words out, "Victor, I need you to keep digging."

"I'm already on it." He replied.

"We'll find a trace...something."

Victor hesitated, causing a heavy pause on the line. "I really hope you're right, Helena." He finally said before the call ends.

I slowly lowered the phone from my ear, numbness washing over my core.

How long has this whole thing been in motion for? Weeks? Months? Maybe even longer.

The realization hits me like a physical crash.

Brent didn't just wake up yesterday morning and suddenly decide to ruin my life.

He had meticulously planned every single piece of this. Every warm smile, every sweet apology, every late night at the office and every single lie had all been planned.

Across the room, Jarrett finally broke his silence.

His voice was quiet, measured, and carefully neutral. "Did Brent ever have access to your executive credentials?"

The question felt like a fist punching the remaining air straight out of my lungs.

I stared at him, speechless. My mind immediately raced backward through the years.

Back to a time when I trusted Brent implicitly and back to when sharing passwords and security access felt entirely normal.

My mind trickled back to when I foolishly believed my own husband would never do anything to hurt me.

Then my blood ran entirely cold because the answer was an undeniable yes.

Only three people in the entire world had those credentials.

Me, Brent and Vanessa. My stomach twisted violently, a wave of nausea hitting me.

Dear God.

The missing financial records, the forged corporate signatures, the altered legal documents and the millions in disappearing money.

It all suddenly made a horrifying, perfect kind of sense.

The temperature in the room felt like it had dropped ten degrees.

He didn't just betray our marriage, he systematically infiltrated every single corner of my life.

Before I could even begin to process the magnitude of the thought, my phone vibrates in my palm again.

It was a text message from Victor. I opened it mechanically, my brain operating on autopilot.

A high-resolution photograph filled the screen in milliseconds. My breath hitched violently. It was Brent walking into what looks like a dimly lit, private conference room.

But he wasn't alone, someone was already waiting for him inside, sitting at the head of the table.

An older man with perfect silver hair and a sharp, tailored dark suit with a terrifyingly familiar face.

My fingers went completely numb, barely able to hold the device.

"No." I exclaimed silently. My heart began hammering wildly against my ribs.

No..Please, not him.

I knew exactly who that face belonged to. I hadn't set eyes on him in what seemed like quarter of a decade but I could never forget him.

I vividly remembered him sitting right beside me at my parents' funeral. I remembered him softly telling me that monsters weren't real.

Telling me that my childhood memories were entirely wrong and that I was unstable and needed professional help.

The walls of the hospital room felt like they were closing in on me.

My pulse roared like thunder in my ears.

Slowly and painfully, I lifted my gaze from the glowing screen to see Jarrett looking over my shoulder, staring intently at the photograph too.

All the color has completely drained from his face. His jaw was clenched so tightly the bone looks sharp.

And for the very first time since he walked back into my life, .Jarrett Brooks looked absolutely terrified.

Jarrett's povI was sitting in the chair next to Helena's bed because I hadn't slept and I wasn't about to, not when her breathing kept catching like she was drowning on dry land, and then she woke up screaming like something was tearing her apart from the inside out and I didn't know how to stop it. Her skin was splitting along her ribs and shoulders, thin red lines opening up where fur tried to push through. I could see it, I could see the white of bone and then the dark of blood and then something else underneath, something that wasn't human. She was burning up, 104 and climbing, the thermometer kept beeping and the nurses kept looking at me like I did it. "Get her to St Mercy," I said, and my voice came out wrong, too rough, "now". St Mercy was a human hospital, white tiles and that fake lemon smell that made me sick. The Council law said no humans for wolf injuries but Council law wasn't going to keep her breathing, so I carried her, and wrapped her in a blanket because sh

Helena's pov The air down here tasted like rust and antiseptic.I shouldn't have been behind that glass. Council protocol said family is a liability. But Jarrett pulled rank. Or maybe he broke it. With him, the difference had always been thin.In the room below, Vanessa sat at a steel table. Silver cuffs locked her wrists to the bolts. They were already working. Her skin was red and blistered where the metal touched her. Blood ran in thin lines down her forearms and dripped onto the concrete. She looked small and nothing like the woman who had smiled at my baby shower and told me the cramps were normal.“Start talking,” the Elder said. His voice was flat. He wasn’t asking.Vanessa’s eyes darted to the camera. To me. She knew I was there. “I can’t—”“You can,” Jarrett said beside me. His voice didn’t shake. That was worse. “Or we let the silver do the rest.”A sob broke out of her. It was ugly. Real. “Okay! Okay, please. Take them off.”The Elder didn’t move. “Talk.”And she did. Word

Helena's POV I was in the ice rink alone at 2am when it happened. It was just me, the Zamboni lines and the sounds of my skates carving circles because I couldn’t sleep. My phone lit up. When I picked it up, I didn't realize there was forty seven texts waiting for me all from people I hadn’t talked to in a year. I couldn't help notice Mara's text message asking if I was truly okay. Of course I wasn't. But as I scrolled through the text messages, I realized she wasn't just asking about my well being. It had something to do with Vanessa. I clicked on the message from an unknown number and that was when I saw it. Vanessa was standing there with a cream dress and a hand on her stomach with Brent’s hands on her shoulders like he owned her. I read the text below. They were expecting a child together, they had lost one before and this one was a miracle. The rink went silent. Even the hum of the lights sounded loud.I pressed my palm to my own stomach. The thin, white scar was still t

Vanessa's POVI picked the dress on purpose because it had cream silk and an empire waist. It had the kind of cut that whispered instead of scream. It was tight enough that the cameras would ask questions in the comments, and loose enough that I could still say “oh this old thing” and laugh like it was nothing. My hair was down, combed straight and glossy. I spent 40 minutes on it. I applied a bright red lipstick on my lips before putting on the diamond studs that Brent bought me last Christmas when he was still pretending he loved me more than the headlines and the brand deals. The balcony of the Langley penthouse was perfect. The golden hour bled across the city skyline behind me. You could see the river and the stadium lights in the distance. A ring light was hidden in the potted ficus so I wouldn’t look washed out. I’d told the housekeeper to leave it there. She did without asking why.Brent stood behind the camera with his phone in his hand. He hated doing this. He said it fel

Helena’s POVThe buzzer hit and the world went white. Not literally, but the noise, the lights, the confetti cannons from the rafters all slammed into me at once. I stood behind the bench with my clipboard still in my hand like an idiot, because for three periods I’d been timing line changes and trying not to throw up from nerves. Now the clipboard was useless. The game was over. We won.The team poured onto the ice. Their helmets were off, they threw their gloves, grown men were screaming like kids. Jarrett was in the middle of it, his jersey was soaked, his hair was plastered to his forehead, and that grin breaking across his face that I’d seen in practice but never like this. A reporter shoved a mic in my face. “Ms. Helena! As team manager, how does it feel?” I opened my mouth and nothing came out. Then I laughed. “It feels like we earned it. Every single person in that room earned it.”They let me go. I was supposed to stay professional, stay on the sidelines. Be the executiv

  • Chasing the Riot: The Alpha's Second Chance   CHAPTER 32

Helena’s POVThe first thing I noticed when I stepped into the studio was the smell of cold coffee, hairspray, and that faint plastic scent of studio lights that had been on too long. It smelled like every interview I’d ever done, except this one felt different. This one felt like a trap.“Helena, we’re so excited to have you,” the producer said, touching my elbow like we were old friends. “Just a quick chat that'll be light and fun. We’ll talk about the reforms, the new policies, and… you know… Jarrett’s run.”She said his name and my jaw ticked. I smiled anyway. I had gotten very good at smiling when I wanted to flip a table.“Of course,” I said. “Whatever you want.”That was a lie. Three months earlier the league had been on fire. Emails had been leaked, executives were fired, and players were caught in contracts that shouldn’t have existed. I was the one who walked into the boardroom with a 200-page report and didn’t blink when half the room tried to call me emotional. I was th
