I met the doctor who had a pleasant smile upon seeing me.

“Welcome, Mrs. Williams.” he greeted, calling me by my Dad’s name.

I decided not to use the Reyes family doctor and went to see my childhood doctor.

I already felt empty and in pain. I just needed to see someone from when my parents were alive—someone from when I was born and knew my parents. Doctor Nathan was not just our doctor but also a family friend.

“Thank you, doctor. It's been a long time.”

“Yes dear Hazel. How have you been? And your husband?” he muttered, his voice sincerely caring and for some moment I felt a bit at ease.

“I’m fine doctor, and my husband..” My voice suddenly ceased, my expression turning cold.

“Is anything the matter?” Doctor Nathan asked, seeing my face changing.

“He’s fine doctor, thank you for asking.” I decided to keep my problem to myself.

He wasn't related to Damien in any way, even if I told him, there was nothing he could do. And even if he was, Damien would never have listened.

“Alright Hazel dear,” he muttered.

Then grabbed my wrist to check my pulse.

I haven't told him I was feeling a bit weak yet, or how I fainted earlier, but he decided to check me up anyway. That was how he used to do when I was still little.

Back in the days when I used to follow my mum for check up, he'd check me up too, even when I wasn't sick.  He was an amazing person to my family.

Next, I saw his forehead crease and his eyes a bit wider.

“Hazel?” He called, his eyes looking into mine.

“I’ll send you to the lab now to have some tests done.” He muttered and began typing on his laptop.

Seconds later, he looked up from his laptop, his eyes on me.

“You can go now Hazel, let them take your blood and come back here to wait.” He muttered to me in the most delicate voice.

“Alright, thank you doctor. Actually, that’s why I came. I fainted a few hours back in my room.” I added and his eyes widened. Then he nodded.

“That’s okay. From what I felt, if you stress yourself too much you’re meant to lose consciousness. But get the test done let’s be sure,” he muttered softly and I nodded.

Picking up my bag, I left for the laboratory.

They took my blood as instructed by Dr. Nathan and I came back to his office.

Several minutes later, a knock appeared on his door and someone came in with an envelope.

Doctor Nathan took it from him and he left.

“Your results are ready Hazel.” He muttered and then opened the envelope.

As he went through it, a smile appeared on his face.

Then his face brightened even more.

My brows raised, what could be wrong with me? And why was he smiling if I was so sick?

Just then, he raised his head,

“Congratulations Hazel, you’re pregnant.” He muttered, his lips widening even more and I had my brows raised, my eyes almost bulging out.

He didn’t mean that, did he?

“Pregnant?” I muttered, my voice almost in whispers.

“Yes, Hazel. Congratulations once again.” He said once again and my heart pounded even faster.

My hand unconsciously went down to my still flat stomach.

I couldn’t believe I was pregnant.

Now of all times? When grandpa Walton was still alive and craving for a great-grandchild, it didn’t come but now that he was gone and I wasn’t sure about continuing my marriage with Damien anymore, it came?

Tears I've been holding back brimmed in my eyes as I rubbed my very flat tummy.

“Is everything okay?” Doctor Nathan asked, his face worried.

Then I sniffed back my tears and picked up my bag.

“Thank you so much doctor, I’ll be taking my leave now,” I muttered and his face brightened up with a smile.

“It’s alright Hazel. Here’s my new card. Don’t hesitate to call me if you ever need to.” He muttered delicately and I nodded, not without a brief smile on my face.

With that, I was gone from his office.

Five good years with no history of miscarriage and now I’m carrying a child? I still couldn't believe it.

This was supposed to be the happiest moment of my life.

Especially if grandpa was around.

He would’ve been very happy about this, but Damien, I wasn’t sure. I didn’t know how he’d feel about this.

I wasn’t sure if he even deemed me fit to carry his baby as he had never looked forward to one with me.

He had never asked me or suggested visiting the hospital for a womb check, hormone correction, or anything.

The last time I went for a scan and also had a hormonal test carried out on me, was with grandpa and it turned out, absolutely nothing was wrong with me.

Grandpa also said that he took Damien for a test as well and nothing was wrong with him.

So I believed it was just a matter of time.

And since Damien wasn’t bothered about it and only focused on his mistress, we went on with life as if no one ever wanted a child and now, it was here.

My head was a cluttered mess as I couldn’t stop thinking while driving.

How would Damien feel about this? Was he going to leave his mistress after hearing this?

What if he said I want to tie him down using a baby and even more issues escalated?

Gosh, I didn’t know what to think.

A few minutes later. I arrived at our estate, picked up the test results, and came out of the car.

When I got into our living room, there was no one.

The two lovebirds must’ve gone inside for the night.

I wouldn’t want to go into the guest room to see what would set my heart on fire and have adrenaline busting through my being,  hence I quietly left to my room—our main bedroom.

However, when I got there, the sight I tried to avoid, glared at me hard like it was waiting for me.

Damien and Jane, smoochinng themselves inside my blanket and I could swear they were having s*x.

With the way Damien was twisting his waist inside the blanket while Jane moaned and giggled at the same time, I was sure he had his d!ck inside of her—on our matrimonial bed.

  • Chasing the Wife He couldn't Love: Ex-Husband's Regret    The Shadow of the Pen

The woman in front of me was a mirror. She wore my clothes, had my hair, and held a pen that looked like it could rewrite the stars. She stood in the middle of the park like she owned the sunlight, the grass, and the very air I was breathing."Who are you?" I asked. My voice felt rough, like I had been silent for years."I am the one who writes the drafts you discard," she said. Her voice was cool, calm, and carried no heat. She did not sound like a villain. She sounded like a colleague. "The Architect was just a project manager. He had no vision. He treated this world like a chore. I, on the other hand, love the mess."I stood up. My knees felt weak, but I didn't let her see me shake. I had already faced the void. I had already watched my world tear apart. What was one more copy of myself?

  • Chasing the Wife He couldn't Love: Ex-Husband's Regret    No Way Out

The Architect stood there, looking at me like I was just a toy he had left on the floor. His face was blank. No anger. No hate. Just that same cold, professional smile that had followed me through every hell he created."You really thought a hospital room was the end?" he asked. He tossed a stack of papers onto my bed. They were scripts. My life, written in ink, detailing every heartbeat and every mistake I had ever made. "You are not in the real world, Hazel. You are in the sequel. And I have already decided how this one ends."My blood ran cold. I reached for the pen I saw on the table, but my fingers passed right through it. It was a projection. A lie."Where is Bryan?" I demanded. I stood up, ignoring the IV line still taped to my hand. I ripped it out, letting the blood drip onto the clean floor.

I stood on the street corner, my hand still gripping the invisible weight of the pen. The air in Lagos felt different now. It was no longer the heavy, fake air of the recycle bin. It was real. I could taste the dust from the road and the sharp scent of exhaust fumes. It was messy, it was loud, and it was perfect.Bryan stood beside me, his eyes wide as he looked around. He touched his face, his arms, then the brick wall of the shop behind us."Is this it?" he asked. "Are we actually here?""We are," I said. My heart felt light, but I kept my guard up. The Architect was not the type to give up. If he wanted to play his game, he would have a plan B.I checked my pocket. The pen was still there. It felt smaller, less like a weapon and more like a tool. But as I pulled it ou

My fingers felt the cold metal of the pen in my pocket. It was not just an object; it felt like a weight, heavy with the lives of everyone I had ever known. I looked at Bryan. He was still staring at his hands, his face pale. He looked like he was waking up from a long, bad dream."Bryan, look at me," I said. My voice was steady. I had to be strong. If I showed fear now, we would both be gone.He lifted his eyes. They were wide and confused. "Hazel? Why does this feel so strange? It’s like I have memories of places I’ve never been. I remember dying. I remember fighting in cities that don't exist.""It’s because you were part of the story," I told him. "And so was I. But we are out now. We are standing in the real world."

I hit the floor hard. My shoulder throbbed, but I forced myself up. Bryan was beside me, his gun already out. This was not the Lagos I knew. The buildings around us were made of flickering glass, and the sky above was a giant screen pulsing with a bright, angry red word: DELETE."What is this place?" Bryan asked. He watched a group of people walking past us. They were moving in a loop, taking three stiff steps, turning left, then three steps back. They were not real people. They were puppets stuck in a broken loop."The recycle bin," I said, my chest tight. "He did not just move us to a new city. He threw us into the trash. This is where he puts characters he is finished with before he wipes them for good."A group of figures in gray suits stepped out from the shadows at the end of the alley. They did not have faces

I stood on the sidewalk, the sun warming my back. The noise of Lagos was all around us, cars honking, people talking, the smell of street food. It was real. It was messy. It was home.Bryan stood right there, waiting for the bus. He looked at me, a polite smile on his face, like I was just another person passing by. He did not know me. He did not know about the Mainframe, or the pen, or the way we had fought side by side in a world made of paper. My heart sank. I wanted to run to him, grab his arm, and remind him of everything. I wanted to tell him about the code, the factory, and how he had saved my life a thousand times. But I stopped myself. If I told him, he would think I was crazy. He was a blank slate now. He was finally safe. If I pulled him back into my mess, the Architect might find him again.
