Chapter 3

That night, Lisa was unusually quiet. Lying beside her, all I could hear was the steady rhythm of her breathing. No murmurs, no tossing and turning.

I closed my eyes and soon fell asleep.

In the middle of the night, I woke up, parched. I quietly slipped out in search of water.

And then I came to a stop at the door.

A dim wall lamp cast light in the living room.

Lisa sat on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket. Leo stood in front of her, his back to me.

"Are you really going to marry her?" Lisa's voice was soft, but it was cold and icy. "That Omega that you went public with while keeping me in the dark?"

Leo's voice sounded tired. "We agreed, didn't we? After Mother's death, we can only be siblings."

"Siblings?" Lisa let out a cold, piercing snort. "Would you kiss your sister? Have you forgotten that you nearly marked me?"

My hand on the doorframe clenched suddenly.

They had dated previously.

Leo's back stiffened. "That's all in the past. When Mother found out about us, that triggered her wolf-spirit decay. She made me swear I'd never be with you before she passed away. After that, there was no way we could be together anymore."

I held my breath.

So, that was the truth.

"So, you went for her?" Lisa's voice became sharp. "An orphan with no background who wouldn't cause trouble? Because you're too afraid to start any relationship the family might oppose, right?"

Leo fell silent for a long time.

"Raina…" When he finally spoke, his voice was hoarse. "She pursued me for three years. Her feelings are genuine."

"Genuine?" Lisa's voice choked. "What about me? All those years we've been dating in secret. What did that mean? And those promises you made, about us going public when the timing is right. What about that?"

Leo's shoulders slumped. The Alpha, who always stood tall, suddenly looked unusually fragile.

"I'm sorry, Lisa." His voice was barely above a whisper. "It's the thing I regret the most in my life."

Right then, Lisa looked up.

Her gaze slid past Leo's shoulders and locked onto my eyes in the dark accurately.

She had spotted me.

I saw an icy, calculating glint flashing across her eyes. She then raised her chin slightly.

Her voice suddenly became soft. "Leo, I have one last request."

Leo glanced at her.

"Kiss me, like how we used to kiss in the past. Just this once tonight," she pleaded gently. "From tomorrow onward, I'll try hard to be just your sister."

Leo's body stiffened. The air around him throbbed with his Alpha energy, a visible pulse of his inner struggle.

"It's just a kiss." Lisa's voice choked. "Then I promise I'll give up."

Long seconds stretched on as the moonlight slowly shifted across the floor.

Then I saw Leo's body slowly leaning forward. He reached out, wrapping an arm around Lisa's shoulders.

Lisa pressed her lips to his instantly. Then, from an angle Leo couldn't see, she met my gaze yet again.

A victorious smile curled her lips.

She was putting up an act for me, and Leo was her most obedient actor.

My heart was eerily calm.

Slowly, I pulled out my phone from my pocket and started recording.

The sharp beep of the camera started to cut through the stillness of the night.

Leo spun around abruptly. When he saw me, his golden eyes snapped wide, swirling with shock, panic, and raw fear.
