Nihan's small voice pulled Varany from her thoughts. Daisy held her hand while Nihan looked up at Varany with worried eyes.
“I won't look for Dad anymore,” Nihan said, her voice trembling. “Please don't cry. I'm sorry.”
Varany quickly wiped her cheeks, surprised to realize she had been crying. She pulled Nihan into her arms and kissed her hair.
“No, baby. Mommy isn't mad at you.”
“Don't cry, okay?”
Nihan started crying, and Varany held her tighter.
Nihan was too young to understand why her mother was hurting. Varany had given her everything she could: a home, food, clothes, toys, and more love than she thought she had to give.
But she knew what Nihan really wanted.
A father.
If Varany had known she was pregnant, she wondered if she would have stayed with Bradly despite everything, just so Nihan could grow up with the family she deserved.
Daisy watched them quietly, understanding without needing to ask. Once Nihan's crying eased, she distracted her with a story and a few silly faces, though the worry in the child's eyes remained.
Varany took a breath and stood. “Sis, can you watch her for a while?”
“Of course. What do you need?”
“I have some paperwork to finish for tomorrow's delivery.”
Work was easier to focus on. Numbers, orders, and schedules made sense, and the café was something Varany had built herself.
Two years earlier, shortly after Nihan was born, Varany had barely slept. She worked during the day and cared for Nihan at night, repeating the routine until she somehow made it through the first year.
By the second year, the café was finally doing well. Customers returned, word spread, and Varany began making a profit instead of worrying about every bill. With the business stable, she returned to school to finish her Culinary Arts degree.
Graduation should have made things easier, but Varany soon let the nanny go. She could not bear spending her days away from Nihan and coming home knowing someone else had been there for the moments she had missed.
The café was more than a business now. It was the life Varany had built for herself and her daughter.
And she had named it Nihan's Dream Place.
Not anymore.
Two months later, everything changed when Varany ran into Daisy. The moment Daisy saw her with Nihan, Varany knew she could no longer disappear as she had six years ago.
They took Nihan out to eat and let her play while they sat across from each other, six years of unanswered questions between them.
“Do you have any idea how long we've been looking for you?” Daisy asked. “You disappeared like you never existed. You didn't even tell me.”
Varany lowered her eyes. She had no excuse, especially because Daisy was the person she had missed most.
“I would've supported you,” Daisy said quietly. “No matter what happened.”
Varany could not answer because she knew it was true.
Then Daisy looked toward Nihan.
“That little girl…” Her voice softened. “She's my niece, isn't she?”
Varany froze.
“She looks like him.”
The words broke through the walls Varany had spent years building. Daisy stared at Nihan for a long moment before lowering her head.
“I'm sorry.”
Varany reached across the table and took Daisy's hand. She had missed her more than she wanted to admit. After discovering she was pregnant, there had been many nights when she picked up her phone to call Daisy, only to lose her nerve.
“No. I'm the one who should be sorry,” Varany said. “I ran from everything and everyone. I didn't know how to heal while staying in the place that broke me.”
Daisy squeezed her hand.
For the first time in years, Varany felt less alone.
“She’s your niece,” Varany finally said. “Nihan Everhart. She's four and turning five soon.”
Daisy's eyes softened as she looked toward the play area. “I'll love her.”
“You will,” Varany said with a small smile. “She's loud and a little dramatic.”
Daisy laughed through her tears. “She probably got that from you.”
For a moment, they felt like sisters again.
Then Daisy's expression turned serious. “My brother deserves to know. Please don't keep Nihan away from us. I know he hurt you, but don't take this away from your daughter.”
Varany closed her eyes. “I was never going to hide her forever. I'll bring her to you. To all of you.”
Relief crossed Daisy's face, but Varany quickly added, “Just not yet. I'm not ready, especially not to see him.”
“What if I don't want to wait?” Daisy asked. “What if I call him right now?”
Varany's heart jumped.
Daisy held her gaze. “Do you really think he wouldn't come looking for you?”
After six years of hiding, the future Varany feared was suddenly close.
“Then you won't find us again,” she said. “If you tell him, we disappear.”
The warning was enough to stop Daisy. Varany turned toward Nihan, but Daisy caught her arm.
“Fine,” Daisy said. “I'll wait.”
Varany looked back.
“Six months,” Daisy added. “That's all I'm asking. Please let us be part of her life.”
Varany knew Daisy and Nihan deserved that much, even if she was not ready to face Bradly. She nodded.
END OF FLASHBACK
Four months had passed since Varany promised Daisy she would let her family into Nihan's life. After seeing Nihan cry over her father, four months suddenly felt impossible.
Varany stared at the paperwork on her desk, unable to focus. One question kept returning: how long could she keep Bradly away before protecting Nihan started hurting her instead?
She closed her eyes. Facing Bradly meant reopening everything she had spent six years trying to forget, but Nihan deserved to know her father.
Varany reached for her phone and hesitated for only a moment before pressing the screen.
No more hiding.
Tonight, she would call Daisy. Then she would return to the life she had left behind, including the man she had never truly forgotten.
Her pulse quickened at the thought of seeing Bradly again.
Walking away from him had almost destroyed her.
Going back might destroy her all over again.
And this time, there would be nowhere left to run.
Varany expected to find a secret.Maybe even another woman. But when she stepped outside, she found something completely different. The pool was covered with rose petals.A small table had been prepared for two, with candles flickering softly in the middle. Gentle music played in the background. For a moment, Varany forgot how to breathe.Bradly stood near the speaker, watching her and waiting. Then he walked toward her and wrapped his arms around her.Tight, but careful.Like he was still afraid she might disappear again.“I'm sorry,” he whispered. His voice cracked.“I'm sorry for hurting you and for shouting last night.”Varany stayed still.Bradly held her a little tighter.“I acted like a jerk,” he continued. “I'm so angry with myself right now.”He took a shaky breath.“Just listen to the song.”The music continued as Bradly lowered his voice.“This is how I felt when you left me.”Varany's chest tightened.“I thought I needed to let you go for a while,” he admitted. “But when y
She turned back toward the mirror and picked up her comb, slowly brushing her hair as if Bradly were not standing behind her.If he wanted a fight, fine.“Because I said so.”His voice grew louder.Varany rolled her eyes.“And what if I don't?”She turned to face him.“Myra is my friend. There is nothing wrong with that.”Bradly's jaw tightened.“Friend?”He repeated the word like he hated it.“You think I don't see the way he looks at you?”Varany's breath caught.Bradly stepped closer.“And you...” His voice dropped. “You don't see it?”Of course she did.She had always known how Myra felt. She had simply chosen to ignore it.“There is nothing going on,” Varany said firmly.Even she could hear the weakness in her voice.Bradly moved closer.Too close.“And if there was?”Her heart began to pound.“What would you do?”Silence filled the room.Varany lifted her chin.“I wouldn't be doing anything wrong.”Something sharp flashed in Bradly's eyes.He reached for her wrist. His grip was
Living with the man who once broke her heart was hard.Living with the man she had never truly stopped loving was even harder. Two months had passed since Varany and Nihan returned to Bradly's life. They were living together in their new two-story home with a small garden and a pool in the back.Nihan loved the pool, Bradly loved watching her play, and Varany loved seeing them together. That was what made the new life so dangerous. Every time she heard Nihan call Bradly “Daddy” or watched the three of them laugh together, she found herself forgetting why she had left. For the most part, everything had been peaceful.Except for Myra.Myra owned a small shop near Nihan's Dream Place Café. Two years earlier, he had saved Nihan after she chased a ball into the street. He stopped her before she could get hurt and safely brought her back to Varany. After that, Myra became part of their lives. He was kind and patient, helped Varany when she needed it, and adored Nihan. She loved spending tim
For one dangerous second, Varany forgot she had come back. Then she opened her eyes and saw the man she had spent almost six years trying to forget.Sunlight filled the room. It took her a moment to remember where she was, and then the memories of last night returned. She had slept beside Bradly.Varany quickly looked at the clock. Seven in the morning. She turned her head and froze.Bradly and Nihan were sleeping beside each other. Nihan's tiny hand was wrapped around his finger, while his arm rested protectively around their daughter. They looked so natural together that something inside Varany softened. She quickly looked away.Carefully, she slipped out of bed and headed to the bathroom. A shower helped clear her mind, but when she returned, Nihan was already awake.“Good morning, baby.”Varany kissed her forehead, and Nihan immediately wrapped her arms around her.Varany glanced at Bradly, still sleeping peacefully, then carried Nihan downstairs. She found Bradly's parents alread
Varany thought she was ready to come home. She was wrong. The moment the car stopped in front of the mansion, her heart began pounding. This house held everything she had once loved, and everything that had broken her.Earlier, they had stopped at her apartment so she could pack her clothes, documents, and a few essentials. She had forced herself to move quickly because thinking too much might have made her change her mind. Now she was back.Varany stared through the window, remembering all the nights she had wanted to return while she was pregnant with Nihan. She had missed her parents, her old home, even Bradly. But every time she considered going back, she remembered why she had left.“We're here,” Bradly said lightly. “Don't overthink it.”She glanced at him. Then he smiled. “You're not planning to run away again, right?”Varany rolled her eyes, but she knew a part of her had considered it.She tried to move, but Nihan was still asleep in her arms.“Let me,” Bradly said. Before Va
For one brief moment, Bradly thought Varany had come back to him. Then her expression changed, and the distance between them returned.“Why did you hide Nihan from me?” he asked. “Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?”He swallowed. “I didn't know about her, Varany. But she's my daughter too.”“If Ashley hadn't found me, I wasn't planning to come back,” Varany said calmly. “I had peace with just me and my daughter.”Bradly's chest tightened.“But I knew Nihan would eventually ask about her father. I didn't want her growing up watching her father with different women.”Bradly looked away.“I also didn't know how you'd react,” Varany continued. “What if you rejected her? I've already been hurt. I won't let my daughter go through the same thing.”Bradly had no defense.“I understand,” he said quietly. They could still fix this, he thought. For Nihan. But Varany spoke before he could say anything.“We can fix this,” she said.Hope flickered in Bradly's eyes.“But not the way you think
