Chapter 3

Author: Double Edge
The banquet didn't end because of this incident. On the contrary, it became even livelier.

Nonetheless, I knew that Henry wouldn't give up just like that.

As I expected, it wasn't long before new comments appeared on the overlay.

[The Suther family is actually planning on giving the family heirloom to Henry!]

[Oh, my God! They aren't even bothering to keep the act up anymore, are they? On the surface, it looks like they favor the real heir, Leonard, but in reality, they're completely biased toward the fake one, Henry!]

[I feel so bad for you, Leonard! Why not just destroy the family heirloom? After all, it will be instrumental in Henry taking you down in the future!]

[Hurry up, Leonard! Go and destroy the heirloom!]

I inwardly sneered as I read these comments. It would seem like Henry was using the same trick as in my previous life.

However, this time, I was changing the script.

Spinning on my heel, I headed straight for the room the heirloom was being kept in.

Ten minutes later, the elderly butler of the Suther family, Greg Paterson, rushed into the hall with a panicked expression and made a beeline straight for Dad.

"Sir, terrible news! T-The emerald signet ring… The emerald signet ring your father left you is gone from the study!"

Dad's expression fell. "What? That's the family heirloom! Did anyone enter the study earlier?"

Greg's eyes gleamed as he subconsciously glanced at me. He then began to hem and haw, as though he were afraid of saying anything.

Henry was quick to step forward, his expression twisting into one of shock and heartbreak. "Greg, why are you looking at Leonard? Could it… Could it have been Leonard?"

He strode toward me swiftly, deliberately speaking in a volume loud enough that everyone could hear. "Leonard, I know that you've been lost outside for many years. You might have gotten used to living a harsh life, so some habits might be hard to change in such a short time.

"Even so, that's Grandpa's keepsake! If you need money, you can always just tell me, and I can give you all my allowance! So hurry up and hand over the ring!"

Beside him, Sarah urged, "Henry, don't say such nonsense. Why would Mr. Leonard steal the ring? Maybe… Maybe he just thought it looked nice, took it to play with it, then forgot to return it."

Once again, all the guests' gazes were focused on me, though this time, they were filled with disdain.

"As expected of someone who grew up in the countryside. He's greedy and easily tempted by valuables."

"So what if he's the real heir? That doesn't change the fact that he's a thief, through and through."

Mom shot me an anxious look. "Leo… Did you really take it? If you did, then hand it over right now. I won't fault you for it."

I swept a glance across each face before calmly putting down my champagne flute.

"Henry, you insist that I'm the one who took it, but do you have any evidence to prove your claims?" I asked indifferently.

A sliver of triumph flickered in Henry's eyes. "You were the only one who went to the study earlier to change your clothes! Besides, your pocket looks suspiciously lumpy to me…"

He pointed a finger at my suit pocket, his entire demeanor radiating absolute confidence and certainty.

"Since you're so sure of it, why not search me?" I spread my arms wide and stood right in the middle of the hall. "To prove my innocence, I'm willing to undergo a body search."

Henry was overjoyed, not at all expecting me to cooperate so easily.

Just as he was about to call for someone to search me, his attention was briefly diverted as he stumbled.

I seized the opportunity. My eyes darted over to pin Sarah with a sharp gaze. "However, it's unfair to only search me. There were plenty of people around me. Ms. Carter, in particular, bumped into me earlier and stuck quite close to me. For the sake of fairness, everyone who has ever come close to me should be searched as well."

At first, Henry was surprised, but then he sneered, "Fine! But Sarah is a woman, so why would she take a signet ring?"

Dad, wanting to settle this matter peacefully, nodded. "Alright, then both shall be searched! Greg, you search Leo. Lana, you search Ms. Carter."

As Greg slipped a hand into my pocket, Henry kept his gaze locked on him. He could hardly contain the smile that wanted to curve his lips.

A line floated by my eyes. [Hurry up and admit to the crime. Otherwise, you'll lose your parents' trust.]

Yet, when Greg took out his hand, it was empty.

"T-There's nothing," he uttered, looking stumped.

The smile froze on Henry's face. "That's impossible! Search the inner suit pockets! His pants' pockets as well!"

Greg did as ordered, yet he still couldn't find anything.

"How could that be?" Henry yelled before charging forward to search me himself. "He must've hidden it away somewhere!"

At that moment, Lana let out a shout. "Oh my! It's here!"

Immediately, everyone's heads swivelled toward her, their attention drawn to the beautiful emerald signet ring she had dug out of Sarah's bag.

It was none other than the one that had gone missing!

A deathly silence descended upon the hall.

Sarah stared at the ring, utterly dumbfounded. She stammered out, "N-No… I-It wasn't me… I clearly…"

As I casually straightened out my shirt collar, I turned to the gaping Henry and let out a soft laugh. "Oh, Henry, why do you look so surprised?"

The crisp sound of a gunshot rang out as the sniper who had been waiting in ambush pulled the trigger. The bullet struck true, hitting Henry's right wrist—the hand he was holding the remote with.Henry screamed in agony as his wrist exploded into a bloody and mangled mess. Consequently, the remote flew from his hand and dropped near the edge of the platform, just shy of falling into the reactor below."Move in!"With that command, countless SWAT members swarmed into the warehouse.Like a loosed arrow, I darted forward and sent Sarah flying with a kick as she attempted to pick up the remote. She slammed into the wall heavily and was knocked out. Then I sprinted for the controls, lowered Kiara so that she was within reach, and quickly untied her ropes. As she dropped from her bindings, I deftly caught her before she could fall forward. She threw herself into my arms and clung to me, her entire body trembling violently. At last, she was unable to hold back her tears any longer, and

One week later, I was with Kiara as she tried on wedding dresses. The snow-white long-train wedding gown clung to her figure, making her look as beautiful as an angel. Still, she didn't seem fully satisfied with it and headed back into the dressing room to try on another.I waited outside for her to reemerge, but even after some time had passed, there was no sign of her.Suddenly, my phone vibrated, and I saw that an unknown number had sent me a photo. In it, Kiara was tied to a cement pillar with her mouth taped shut, while her eyes shone with terror. The background showed that it was an abandoned chemical warehouse.Subsequently, my phone rang."Leonard Suther." The voice coming from the other end of the line was hoarse and sinister. It was none other than Henry. "Do you want to save her? Then come to the chemical factory on the western outskirts of the city. Don't you dare call the police, or I'll blow her up! Oh, and bring a shares transfer agreement with you."My fingers

On the large bed, there was indeed a man and a woman whose bodies were entwined together. Both were completely naked and deeply asleep, while the unmistakable smell of sex lingered in the air. After being woken by the flashing lights and shouting voices, the man on the bed blearily lifted his head to reveal a face that had gone stark white in terror. However, it wasn't me, but Henry. As for the woman in his arms, she jolted awake with a scream. Upon seeing the crowd, she was scared witless."Ahh! Henry? Why is it you?"Sarah yanked the blanket up to hide her face, but it was already too late, as the paparazzi's cameras had long since recorded everything. Some were even broadcasting the scene live. The live chat was exploding with comments."Holy shit! Isn't that the adopted son of the Suther family, Henry?""That woman's Sarah Carter, isn't it? The one who was kicked out a few days ago for stealing the Suthers' heirloom?""Oh my! Having sex with a woman in his brother's room o

Just as Henry tossed aside the blanket, a tremendous force attacked him from behind. With a loud thunk, a solid wood baseball bat smashed into the back of his head.Henry didn't even get a chance to grunt before his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he slumped bonelessly onto the bed.I tightened my grip on the baseball bat, my gaze shifting from Henry on the bed to the next room where Sarah was. She had already been consumed by the aphrodisiac and was rubbing herself against my pillow in desperation."Since you two love each other so much, I'll oblige you."With that, I grabbed Henry by one leg and began dragging him unceremoniously across the floor and toward my room.By then, Sarah was completely out of it. Upon seeing someone enter the room, she immediately threw herself at me and rubbed her body against mine like a cat in heat.Disgusted, I tossed Henry onto the bed and shoved Sarah toward him.The aphrodisiac's effects, along with the lingering scent of wine on He

To appease Henry and also to protect the Suther family's reputation, Dad didn't immediately kick Henry out of the family because of the ring incident. In fact, he even put Henry in charge of the preparations for my engagement party with Kiara, hoping that Henry could make up for his mistake with this gesture. On the surface, Henry seemed to obey Dad's wishes, busying himself with the preparations as though he had truly turned over a new leaf. However, I knew that this was simply the calm before the storm. The engagement party was set for three days later. During that period, the screen was oddly quiet. The night before the party, the Suther residence was blazing with light despite it already being late. The housekeepers were bustling around as they decorated the venue for tomorrow.I was in the study, thinking about what had happened in my previous life.To ensure that nothing would go wrong, Henry had drugged me and ordered Sarah to climb into my bed the night before the engagem

Sarah slumped to the floor in terror, her entire body trembling. In high society, where one's name and reputation were everything, stealing the host's property, particularly a family heirloom, was a serious crime. Once confirmed, her entire life would be ruined, and the Carter family would be shamed as well."It wasn't me! It truly wasn't me!" Sarah lunged forward to hug Henry's leg. "Henry, save me! You know I didn't steal the ring! It was—"Henry's expression abruptly changed when he realized that she was about to spill the truth. Without any hesitation, he raised his hand and landed a ringing slap across her face."Sarah, you've truly disappointed me!" He put on a pained expression, and even the finger he was pointing at Sarah was shaking. "I treated you like a friend and brought you here to attend this banquet out of the kindness of my heart, hoping that it would broaden your horizons. Yet, you… You actually stole my family's property!""I didn't!" Sarah cradled her throbbing
