Chapter 2

Author: Double Edge
All composure was forgotten as Henry rushed forward anxiously to stop me. "Leonard, are you out of your mind? You just returned to us, so you aren't familiar with the situation here. Kiara is spoiled, arrogant, and has a bad reputation. More importantly…"

He gritted his teeth, glanced at Kiara, then turned back to me. "She already has someone she likes. Neither of you will be happy or blissful if you force yourself on her like this!"

That seemed to be some sort of cue for Sarah, for she staggered forward unsteadily.

"Henry's right, Mr. Leonard…" she uttered in a tearful voice, her eyes red-rimmed. "Love isn't something that can be forced. Actually, rather than choose someone who doesn't even love you, why not look carefully around you for someone who truly understands and appreciates you?"

Once again, comments began flying across the overlay, fanning the flames.

[Hear that? What a kind-hearted woman!]

[Leonard, are you really going to be a jerk? Look at how humble Sarah is already being!]

[Kiara is nothing but used goods. Even Henry doesn't want a shitty woman like her, yet you think of her as some treasure!]

I coldly eyed the duo playing off each other's act.

"Oh? She already has someone she likes?" Ignoring Henry, I turned to look at Kiara with amusement dancing in my eyes. I deliberately raised my voice as I asked, "Ms. Doley, my younger brother says that you already have someone you like and that you aren't interested in me. Is that true?"

In my previous life, Henry had used similar tactics to drive a wedge between Kiara and me, leading to us becoming enemies before we could even blossom into anything else. He had gone around spreading rumors about how Kiara was already madly in love with him, but I had insisted on getting between the two and separating them.

Kiara had always been a prideful woman, so she didn't deign it worthy of her time and energy to explain herself. In the end, the two of us grew increasingly distant.

That was why, in this life, I would let her speak for herself.

Kiara raised a brow. "Henry Suther, are you delusional? Since when have I ever said that I liked you? Was it when you got so drunk that you puked all over me? Or was it when you stood me up for Sarah's sake? The only reason I didn't beat you to death was because of your father."

In an instant, the venue was in an uproar as the guests whispered to each other.

"I knew it! I told you that there was no way the heiress of the Doley family would take an interest in an adopted son."

"So, it turns out that Henry was just making himself look good…"

Henry's complexion flushed a deep red. He hadn't expected Kiara to disregard his dignity like that and publicly shame him.

"Kiara, you… Stop trying to use my brother to piss me off!" Henry was still trying to salvage his pride.

Kiara let out a scoff before smoothly hooking her arm through mine, the motion intimate and affectionate. "Leonard, I've liked you for a long time now."

My heart skipped a beat at her words. So, she didn't have any objections to this marriage?

My parents laughed delightedly. "Wonderful! It's always the best when both partners are willing and in love! I approve of this marriage!"

Mom went one step further, taking off the emerald bangle on her wrist and slipping it onto Kiara's.

"Dear Kiara, if Leo is ever mean to you in the future, you can come to me!"

And so, the matter of my marriage was settled.

I took in the malice burning in Henry's eyes and leaned closer to him. In a voice that only the two of us could hear, I said, "Henry, why are your hands shaking? Are you worried that with Kiara becoming your sister-in-law, you won't get a chance to exploit the situation and seize the Suther family fortune for yourself?"

Henry's eyes widened as he snapped his head up to stare at me.

In that moment, it was like the overlay with the madly scrolling comments had been hacked. An incomprehensible mess of coding flashed across the overlay before turning into a bunch of meaningless symbols.

It would seem that the mastermind was having a mental breakdown. His carefully devised scheme was to have me marry Sarah, an illegitimate daughter with no family backing, so that it would be easier to sideline me in the future.

However, with me choosing to marry Kiara instead, I would have the support of the Doley family. How was he supposed to fight with that?

The crisp sound of a gunshot rang out as the sniper who had been waiting in ambush pulled the trigger. The bullet struck true, hitting Henry's right wrist—the hand he was holding the remote with.Henry screamed in agony as his wrist exploded into a bloody and mangled mess. Consequently, the remote flew from his hand and dropped near the edge of the platform, just shy of falling into the reactor below."Move in!"With that command, countless SWAT members swarmed into the warehouse.Like a loosed arrow, I darted forward and sent Sarah flying with a kick as she attempted to pick up the remote. She slammed into the wall heavily and was knocked out. Then I sprinted for the controls, lowered Kiara so that she was within reach, and quickly untied her ropes. As she dropped from her bindings, I deftly caught her before she could fall forward. She threw herself into my arms and clung to me, her entire body trembling violently. At last, she was unable to hold back her tears any longer, and

One week later, I was with Kiara as she tried on wedding dresses. The snow-white long-train wedding gown clung to her figure, making her look as beautiful as an angel. Still, she didn't seem fully satisfied with it and headed back into the dressing room to try on another.I waited outside for her to reemerge, but even after some time had passed, there was no sign of her.Suddenly, my phone vibrated, and I saw that an unknown number had sent me a photo. In it, Kiara was tied to a cement pillar with her mouth taped shut, while her eyes shone with terror. The background showed that it was an abandoned chemical warehouse.Subsequently, my phone rang."Leonard Suther." The voice coming from the other end of the line was hoarse and sinister. It was none other than Henry. "Do you want to save her? Then come to the chemical factory on the western outskirts of the city. Don't you dare call the police, or I'll blow her up! Oh, and bring a shares transfer agreement with you."My fingers

On the large bed, there was indeed a man and a woman whose bodies were entwined together. Both were completely naked and deeply asleep, while the unmistakable smell of sex lingered in the air. After being woken by the flashing lights and shouting voices, the man on the bed blearily lifted his head to reveal a face that had gone stark white in terror. However, it wasn't me, but Henry. As for the woman in his arms, she jolted awake with a scream. Upon seeing the crowd, she was scared witless."Ahh! Henry? Why is it you?"Sarah yanked the blanket up to hide her face, but it was already too late, as the paparazzi's cameras had long since recorded everything. Some were even broadcasting the scene live. The live chat was exploding with comments."Holy shit! Isn't that the adopted son of the Suther family, Henry?""That woman's Sarah Carter, isn't it? The one who was kicked out a few days ago for stealing the Suthers' heirloom?""Oh my! Having sex with a woman in his brother's room o

Just as Henry tossed aside the blanket, a tremendous force attacked him from behind. With a loud thunk, a solid wood baseball bat smashed into the back of his head.Henry didn't even get a chance to grunt before his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he slumped bonelessly onto the bed.I tightened my grip on the baseball bat, my gaze shifting from Henry on the bed to the next room where Sarah was. She had already been consumed by the aphrodisiac and was rubbing herself against my pillow in desperation."Since you two love each other so much, I'll oblige you."With that, I grabbed Henry by one leg and began dragging him unceremoniously across the floor and toward my room.By then, Sarah was completely out of it. Upon seeing someone enter the room, she immediately threw herself at me and rubbed her body against mine like a cat in heat.Disgusted, I tossed Henry onto the bed and shoved Sarah toward him.The aphrodisiac's effects, along with the lingering scent of wine on He

To appease Henry and also to protect the Suther family's reputation, Dad didn't immediately kick Henry out of the family because of the ring incident. In fact, he even put Henry in charge of the preparations for my engagement party with Kiara, hoping that Henry could make up for his mistake with this gesture. On the surface, Henry seemed to obey Dad's wishes, busying himself with the preparations as though he had truly turned over a new leaf. However, I knew that this was simply the calm before the storm. The engagement party was set for three days later. During that period, the screen was oddly quiet. The night before the party, the Suther residence was blazing with light despite it already being late. The housekeepers were bustling around as they decorated the venue for tomorrow.I was in the study, thinking about what had happened in my previous life.To ensure that nothing would go wrong, Henry had drugged me and ordered Sarah to climb into my bed the night before the engagem

Sarah slumped to the floor in terror, her entire body trembling. In high society, where one's name and reputation were everything, stealing the host's property, particularly a family heirloom, was a serious crime. Once confirmed, her entire life would be ruined, and the Carter family would be shamed as well."It wasn't me! It truly wasn't me!" Sarah lunged forward to hug Henry's leg. "Henry, save me! You know I didn't steal the ring! It was—"Henry's expression abruptly changed when he realized that she was about to spill the truth. Without any hesitation, he raised his hand and landed a ringing slap across her face."Sarah, you've truly disappointed me!" He put on a pained expression, and even the finger he was pointing at Sarah was shaking. "I treated you like a friend and brought you here to attend this banquet out of the kindness of my heart, hoping that it would broaden your horizons. Yet, you… You actually stole my family's property!""I didn't!" Sarah cradled her throbbing
