My eyes had barely adjusted to the pitch blackness outside my balcony when I hooked a leg over it.

“Cone on, Mara, hurry,” I wheezed inwardly, my heart rapping so fast inside me that I was sure it would explode.

I clutched the makeshift bag that I had strapped around one shoulder, recalling the frenzied way I’d started stuffing my clothes into it as soon as I reached my room.

The food in there would last me for days, enough for me until I made it back to Shadow Pack.

“A quick in and out, nothing to it,” I rasped, before swallowing hard.

My fingers hooked into the jagged stone blocks that jutted from the slick black walls and I climbed my way down, exhaling when my feet brushed over the short carpet grass.

Sweat made my hair stick to the back of my neck and a wave of nausea so strong it almost brought me to my knees washed over my entire body.

“Step one complete, come on now,” I hissed low, under my breath, glancing this way and that and drawing the hood of the thick fur
