“Sir…” The word stopped me dead in my tracks, my boots grinding into the frost-dusted earth. I turned to see Ronald jogging up, his broad frame heaving with each panting breath, his dark eyes glinting with worry under the moonlight.

“Ronald? You were supposed to stay with the other half,” I said, my voice sharp, though I didn’t mean it to be. My nerves were frayed, every instinct screaming that Jessica was in danger.
