LOGINJessica/Tessa pov.
A hand shot out from the darkness and clamped hard over my mouth. I panicked and tried to pry the hand away but its gripped tightened, pinning me against the wall.
“Shh. It’s me.”
I freeze. The hand loosens just enough for me to turn my head. Jason’s face is in the shadow, relief hits so hard it makes me dizzy. Wa
Zane pov.“Sir…” The word stopped me dead in my tracks, my boots grinding into the frost-dusted earth. I turned to see Ronald jogging up, his broad frame heaving with each panting breath, his dark eyes glinting with worry under the moonlight.“Ronald? You were supposed to stay with the other half,” I said, my voice sharp, though I didn’t mean it to be. My nerves were frayed, every instinct screaming that Jessica was in danger.

Zane pov.“I still don’t think we should take the message seriously, sir. There’s a high risk, it’s a trap or false alarm to lure us away,” Ronald said, despite the fact we are already a few meters away from the said place.A dove had delivered a message and the location of where Tessa is being held captive. Ronald is right but at the same time, I can’t take any risk. If I assume it was another trap but it was real? Not only am I putting her life in danger.
Jessica/Tessa pov.I choke out a sound, cursing Paige with everything I have, but it comes out weak and garbled. If the water were clear, my blood would be dark and visible. Pain claws at my lower belly and I want to scream until my throat breaks.I force the scream down, because crying out here would drown me for sure. Instead I bite my lip, throat burning, and fight to keep my head above water.
Jessica/Tessa pov.The guards pull me from the cell and through dark tunnels. The air gets cold, and my wrists ache from the silver ropes, leaving sharp red marks around them.I look around, hoping for even the faintest glimpse of Evan. My chest tightens. I gave him a note yesterday, begging him to pass it to Zane. Did he manage it? Or did Paige find out? The thought of him being punished because of me makes my stomach twist. Goddess, if something happened to him, I’d never forgive myself.
Jessica/Tessa pov.Paige refuses to say more about the keys she mentioned earlier, no matter how much I pretend to play along, no matter how submissive I act. She keeps her secrets close.I don’t know how much time has passed, but the hollow ache in my stomach tells me it’s been too long. Hunger claws at me, making it harder to think straight.
