MasukJessica/Tessa’s pov;
The forest grew darker as I moved further, twigs snapping under my feet as I walked.

Zane’s pov;“Zane! Zane!! Zane!!”I groaned and turned around slowly. Why was Jessica calling out my name so frantically? And why does she sound so far away?My eyelids fluttered open and I blinked once, then twice, suddenly realizing where I was and how I had come to be here.
Zane’s Pov;I glanced at the men in front of me..at the man I had slain.He was a beta, Tommy. He was the son of elder Jon and if word got to him about what had happened, all hell was going to break loose.But I had much more important things to worry about than that.
Jessica/Tessa’s pov;The forest grew darker as I moved further, twigs snapping under my feet as I walked.My wolf had finally found a way to help me get to Zane quickly, but I understood the risk, not like I cared anyways. All I cared about was making sure that he was fine.I could still hear faint shouting somewhere ahead and figured out that the border fight hadn’t ended or maybe something wors
Jessica/Tessa’s Pov;Zane. Zane. Zane.That was all I thought as I followed the path leading to the border.The alarm didn’t stop and neither did the racing of my heart.“My lady!”“Wait up!”I didn’t listen. I had realized a few minutes later that a few guards had followed me, perhaps to ensure that I was safe. As if I needed that!Then, halfway through the path, my wolf suddenly stiffened. It wasn’t the feeling of fear or of someone watching.It was more like someone yanking me back and I stopped. I didn’t understand this and I knew well enough to trust my gut.“What—” My breath hitched in my throat as my knees suddenly felt too weak to carry me. “What’s wrong?”My wolf didn’t answer at first. She just pushed hard, as though she was trying to force me back.‘Don’t go.’The words sounded almost painful and I furrowed my brows. Zane was in danger, we had to save him and my wolf who should’ve been even more eager than I was could say this?“I have to,” I whispered. “Zane’s at the borde
Zane’s Pov;I stretched out my arm, my lips curling into a smile that I hoped reached my eyes.They had no idea what was about to hit them and I liked it that way.“King Zane,” their leader greeted, bowing too deeply. “We’re grateful you accepted our offer of peace.”Right. I nodded.“Let’s hear what your chieftain wants.”They exchanged glances and the leader opened his mouth to speak, but that was when the first blade came flying out of the trees.My guards reacted immediately and Ronaldo tackled me sideways as a second blade came flying towards me, lodging itself in the ground where I had been standing.“As you can see,” the leader said, his mask of pretence fading as he stepped back, “our chieftain chooses strength over negotiation.”Their hidden fighters came out from the trees, dozens of them. But I and my men were already prepared.“Good,” I smirked. “So do I.”My guards closed in around me, forming a defensive arc. The first Limestone soldier lunged forward. I caught his wrist,
Tessa / Jessica’s Pov;I let out a deep sigh as I thought about the last thing Zane said to me before he left about an hour ago.‘Come back to me.’As if I’d willingly do anything else.The haystack sat where we left it.No one would look twice at it, not unless they knew what was inside it. What we had layered into the bottom of the pile, strip by strip.Flame burning grass.I remembered Zane’s hands the day we built it, his fingers stained with dirt as he placed the dried strands in the soil, his brows furrowed in concentration and his jaw tight.“Why here?” I had asked him then, wiping sweat from my neck.“Because it’s close enough to the border to be seen,” he said, glancing at the huge land. “But not close enough to burn the forest.”“And far enough from the houses,” I’d added.He grunted. “That too.”Now, standing in front of that same haystack, my throat felt dry.“Are y’all ready?” I glanced at Tyson and the men that had come with him.I had informed them of the plan before we
