NINETY-THREE

ESMERAY

I hovered around my mate who now lay in his human form, lifeless on the ground. Next to him was the body of Oliver, and a few meters from them was Vadirr.

I’d undergone a full transformation, something to be joyful about, but the pain that filled my heart was inexplainable. I could still feel the stabbing pain from where the bullet had hit him twice and I could not tell if he was still breathing or not. My heart throbbed with pain as I tried to shift back to my human form. I hadn’t mastered the form of transforming yet, so shifting back was proving harder than I thought. I howled in relief when I saw Duron’s car park a few feet away.

He jumped out of the car, cloth in hand to cover his brother. He must have felt his brother in pain, but how he got here so fast was something I would ponder about later. He looked at me, confused for a second, and then realization finally kicked in.
