Chapter 1

Author: Bubbles
"Grace, I'm turning down your invitation. I already promised Lilith the opening dance."

Darian shook off my hand without hesitation and walked toward Lilith.

Whispers rippled through the crowd — mocking me for being rejected after asking my own fated mate to dance.

But none of them knew how happy I was.

Because I had been reborn.

I was back at my twenty-second birthday ball.

I was the only daughter of the Stone Creek Pack Alpha, and Darian was my fiancé.

In everyone's eyes, I was the spoiled, clingy girl who had trapped Darian against his will.

Darian thought so too.

So even though we were fated mates, he never spared me a second glance.

In my past life, he had done the exact same thing at this very ball — shaken off my hand in front of everyone and walked straight to Lilith.

I had begged him to stay. He never looked back.

I became a laughingstock.

When Darian's parents found out, they were furious. They scolded him and ordered him to complete the marking ceremony with me immediately.

On the day of the ceremony, Lilith left a suicide note and threw herself off a cliff.

From that day on, Darian saw me as the one who killed Lilith.

He wanted revenge.

In public, he played the devoted husband.

Behind closed doors, he destroyed me piece by piece — drove my parents to their deaths and killed my unborn child.

After my parents died, he became the new Alpha of the Stone Creek Pack.

I begged to dissolve the mate bond countless times. He refused every single one.

He said he wanted me to suffer forever.

For twenty years, I lived in complete despair.

Finally, the last time he threw me into the sea, I stopped fighting.

They pulled me out, but I still died in that freezing treatment room.

The bitter irony — as I lay dying, the TV showed Darian and Lilith embracing at an airport.

Lilith had never died. She was alive and thriving, a bestselling author.

The world was moved by their reunion, showering them with blessings.

Only I died with nothing but regret.

This time around, I would stay far from Darian, protect my parents, and live.

Under the stunned gazes of the crowd, I turned and walked toward the young man sitting alone in the corner.

"Hi. Would you do me the honor of the opening dance, Alex?"

Before Alex could respond, I took his hand and led him to the center of the dance floor.

Gasps erupted around us.

"Did she just grab Alex's hand?"

"Doesn't Grace only have eyes for Darian? Why is she asking another man to dance?"

"When Alex realizes what happened, he'll rip her arm off!"

"Obviously — everyone knows the Blaze Pack Alpha is a cold-blooded killer."

"I heard he once killed a maid just for saying the wrong thing!"

"Shut up! If he hears you, you're dead!"

I leaned close to Alex's ear and whispered, "Is any of that true?"

Darian's face contorted. "What are you laughing about now?"I pointed at the security camera above his head and said slowly, "Intentional destruction of key evidence. Caught on video. I think that's more than enough to convict you."The color drained from Darian's face. His legs gave out and he collapsed onto the sofa.I stood, patted his shoulder, a smile in my voice."Oh, and the ledger you just shredded? That was a decoy. Illegally obtained evidence is inadmissible anyway. The real records are still in your office — and they'll be the most powerful evidence at the Werewolf Council Court.""Darian, I gave you chances. So many chances.""But you just couldn't help yourself.""So now — we play by my rules."I walked out without looking back.Alex hurried toward me the moment I appeared, quickly checking me over to make sure I wasn't hurt before breaking into a grin. "How'd it go?"I flipped my hair and smirked. "Outsmarting that fool isn't exactly a challenge."We strolled arm in arm,

I flinched and quickly told Alex to put me down.Dad stood there, glaring daggers at Alex, then at me.I took Alex's hand. "Dad, this is my boyfriend. Alex.""Absolutely not! Grace, even if you're trying to get away from Darian, this is not the way! You're jumping from one fire into another!"I met his gaze steadily. "I'm not with Alex to escape Darian, Dad. I'm with him because I love him."Dad still looked disapproving."Fine. But Grace, your taste in men is terrible. Don't say I didn't warn you."Alex stepped forward, his voice low and firm. "Then let time prove me right. I won't let Grace down."Dad scoffed and walked away. For a few days, things were quiet.Until a headline exploded across every feed: "Alpha's Daughter Grace Brutally Attacks Pregnant Woman, Causing Miscarriage."In the video, Lilith sobbed through her accusations — that I had pushed her down the stairs.Playing the victim was her specialty. Sympathy poured in, along with a flood of hate directed at me.I smirked a

I flexed my hand and said nothing."I haven't even settled the score for my dead child, and you dare hit me?"Something twisted in my chest.I remembered my past life — kneeling in the snow for an entire day and night, begging Darian to spare my parents. He kicked me in the stomach. He knew I was carrying his child. He used full force anyway.I collapsed in agony, bleeding, and he turned and walked away without a word.Alex got me to the hospital. Maybe it was time I was brave too.I took a deep breath and fixed Darian with a cold stare."Darian, if there's something wrong with your head, go see a doctor.""Your mansio

The phone interrupted me.Darian.I swallowed my disgust and answered. His voice was ragged and exhausted."Grace, Lilith lost the baby. My child is gone!""It was my first child. How could you be so heartless?"While Darian drowned in grief on the other end, my expression didn't change."Darian, the marking ceremony has been dissolved. From now on, your problems are none of my business.""And I already have a boy—"I glanced at Alex and swallowed the rest of the sentence."The point is, stop calling me."I hung up before he could respond."He's still bothering you?"Alex's eyes narrowed, something dangerous flickering in them."I could make him disappear. Permanently. I mean it."I laughed and shook my head. "Alex, you're the Alpha of the Blaze Pack. Darian belongs to Stone Creek Pack. If you go after him, it'll damage the trust between our packs.""This is something only I can do — and it needs to be done by the book."I paused, then said abruptly, "Alex, you have feelings for me, do

Dad saw me holding him back and assumed I was still protecting Darian. He coughed in frustration."Grace, you're the one who wanted to dissolve the ceremony, and now you're shielding him?""Do you still have feelings for him?"Darian heard that and smirked. "Grace, quit the games. If you still want me, why bother playing hard to get? You know that doesn't work on me."Lilith's eyes darted around before she leaned against Darian, looking fragile and tearful. "Darian, if Grace still has feelings for you, maybe I should step aside..."Darian immediately wrapped his arms around Lilith and murmured comforts.I took a deep breath, pulled out my phone, and dialed Alex — thank God he still had the same number. His voice on the other end was polite and distant. "Hello, who's calling?"I made my voice honey-sweet. "Baby, I'm on Maple Street. Weren't we going to celebrate the dissolution? Come pick me up."Alex didn't hesitate. "I'll be right there."I hung up and said coldly, "You heard that. I

Three more days passed. Once the wound on my head had fully healed, I went home. The moment I saw my parents, the tears poured out.Mom pulled me into her arms. "What happened, sweetheart?"Dad shot up from the couch, furious. "Who hurt you? I'll deal with them."I didn't say a word. I just leaned into their embrace and soaked in the warmth I had missed for so long.In my past life, after Lilith's staged death, Darian turned his hatred on me.At first, I bore his coldness without complaint — partly out of guilt, partly because I still loved him.I even defended him in front of my parents, boosting his standing within the pack. And that was exactly why, when he framed my parents for embezzlement, no one dared to question it.My parents were thrown in prison and tortured for confessions. To protect me, they took their own lives behind bars.Without Alex, I wouldn't have even seen their bodies. Not this time. I would never let that happen again."Mom, Dad — I want to dissolve the marking
