CHAPTER 21: DODGING THE ROYALS

Luckily, my phone rings again, breaking the tension between me and Gautnier.

“Answer it,” Gautnier urges gently.

I nod, taking the excuse to step away. It’s easier to leave him for a moment and dodge his question than to have a possible argument with Orvyn, who’s miles away from me.

I walk down the corridor and lift the phone to my ear, but I stay silent, wanting to check Orvyn’s mood first.

-[“Thank God! You answered! Did Gautnier hurt you? Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.”]-

His voice cracks with relief and alcohol. Then he starts sobbing, making my heart ache.

He’s done nothing but hurt me ever since I became his choice. If anything, I should be pleased.

But…,

Maybe I’m not as cruel as him. I’m not the kind to celebrate someone’s tears.

“We’ll go home tomorrow. The road where we are located is impassable now, according to the news,” I say flatly.

-[“No. I can get to you now, no matter how impossible it may seem.]-

I sigh deeply. That’s him. A king who’s used to getting eve

  • Chosen to be Betrayed   CHAPTER 31: CHAOS IN THE COURT HALL

The loud gongs and horns shake the whole palace. The noise wakes the other officials, but I have been awake all night. I couldn’t sleep, coz my mind kept racing. When and where can I destroy my spare phone without the guards finding its pieces? But more than that, Beta Clare’s words still haunt me. What if Orvyn really is in love with Thalissia now? I try to shake it off, but my confidence is slowly slipping from me. That’s why this doubt keeps clinging to me and refusing to let go. Suddenly,... The door creaks open. Royal guards enter without asking for permission or offering breakfast. They just motion for us to follow. In the room beside ours, the male officials of our pack come out too. Dad gives me a worried smile, but I can’t bring myself to smile back. We're led to the royal court. Queen Elowyn sits at the front with officials from other packs. Some look shocked, some are curious, and a few—especially the silver-haired, silver-eyed ones—wear smug faces. “King Orvyn

  • Chosen to be Betrayed   CHAPTER 30: YOU'RE UNDER ARREST!

VICTORIA’S POV: I pace my bedroom anxiously. The air-conditioner is on, but sweat still runs down my forehead. Why haven’t the Gammas called back? Did they kill Thalissia already? Or did she escape again?I grab my spare phone and try one more time, pressing Yssa’s number. One ring... two... Then finally, she answers.I open my mouth, ready to scold her for ignoring my previous calls, but my instinct stops me. Yssa doesn’t say anything either, as if waiting for me to speak first, which is strange. Until, a moment of tense silence later, a voice, I don’t recognize, echoes.-[“This is the Chief Police from Amantheia Paradise Island. May I know who I am speaking with?”]-My blood runs cold, provoking me to hang up at once and throw the phone into my cabinet.Chief Police?! They’re caught! Did they tell them about my involvement? Have they killed Thalissia, or was she lucky again?I force myself to breathe deeply, trying to calm the panic. Suddenly,...I jolt, fear wriggling back thr

  • Chosen to be Betrayed   CHAPTER 29: WOUNDS AND SCARS

Police cars are parked just outside the villa. The two officers, standing near the steps, are gaping at me like they’re seeing a zombie limping toward them. One officer lifts her portable radio to her mouth. “She’s here, wounded and injured.”The other rushes over to me. “I believe you’re Ms. Thalissia? Where have you been? Who hurt you? Mr. Orvyn of Karyndor is so worried about you.”I smirk inwardly. Well played, Orvyn. He really reported me missing, hoping this will make him look innocent. The police keep interrogating me, but none of them offer medical help.I say nothing.I can’t trust anyone now. Just like with that waitress—I trusted too fast, and I paid for it.I ascend the staircase for one of the spare rooms. When I go straight to the bathroom, they finally stop following me, their footsteps retreating. I let the water from the shower faucet cascade down to me. My wounds burn. Even so, I remain focused on how to execute my scheme in this silent war against Orvyn… and the l

  • Chosen to be Betrayed   CHAPTER 28: SHE MUST BE KILLED!

A harrowing scream bursts from my stinging throat as sharp canines savagely pierce through my ankle. Then, the wolf yanks my ankle backward with force, causing me to lose my balance and collapse hard onto the forest’s stony floor. My elbows scrape the rough ground and my face hits the dirt."Leave me alone!" I cry out."But you are already and always alone," one of the wolves sneers. The words sting almost as much as the bites. With the last bit of strength I have, I kick my wounded leg, trying to break free from the wolf's mouth. But the wolf doesn’t let go.Another wolf pierces its canines into my other free ankle, making me shriek as new pain explodes through me.The two wolves begin to drag me until the seaside view is completely gone and only shadows remain. My fingers dig into the ground, trying to hold on to anything. Dirt fills my nails, while pebbles scrape my arms. The third wolf, the only woman among them, walks behind. Sometimes it snaps at the others, barking orders. Ot

  • Chosen to be Betrayed   CHAPTER 27: THE REAL PARADISE

Orvyn keeps breaking the walls I built. Every time I try to stay guarded, he finds a way in. Sometimes, the thought that he may still kill me slips into my mind. But it’s quick and light, and I can just brush it off like dust unlike before. We’ve made love every chance we get in probably almost every corner of the villa. The shower. The couch. Even the kitchen counter. It’s wild. It’s real. When we're together, there’s no fear. Only warmth. Only fire. “Let’s go for a swim before the sun goes down?” he asks, his mismatched-colored eyes elated. Though, I’ve never swum in a sea before—only the cold, still lakes near the orphanage, I nervously agree. Orvyn wears only trunks. His body is all muscle, with veins along his arms and torso. His abs are carved like stone. His face—strong and handsome—makes it hard to overlook too. But then there’s me. I keep tugging at my one-piece swimsuit, trying to hide the curves and fats I’ve always been ashamed of. It’s my first time wearing some

  • Chosen to be Betrayed   CHAPTER 26: IT HAPPENED, FINALLY!

My wolf whimpers softly in my chest, no longer scared, only hungry for Orvyn’s touch. His lips touch my collarbone as he takes off my nightgown. Meanwhile, my hands rub his buffed arms, shaky at first, but steady now. He lays me down to bed, then moves above me. He controls the pace, guiding me with every kiss, every caress, and every thrust."Am I too rough?" he asks, his voice breathless against my skin."No," I whisper, biting back a moan. "Don’t stop."The bed creaks as we keep thrusting our hips in unison. My fingers dig into his back, while his lips find mine again. I feel like I’m floating, my body no longer mine but his—ours.I keep trembling whenever we reach our peak together. Again. And again. Five times. I’ve never known pleasure like this, never trusted someone enough to give in fully. But with him… I can’t stop myself. When it’s over, Orvyn collapses beside me, sweat glistening on his chest. I, on the other hand, am dazed and breathless. His arm wraps around me gent
