LOGINEsther's POV.The audacity of this human to text me after running off with my money! He'd sent the message yesterday but I still hadn't gotten over it. Anger boiled fresh in my veins as I recalled the night I logged into my bank account only to find my money gone. He'd done that without even thinking twice about how many jobs I worked, or how much effort I was putting in to fend for myself. But what did I expect? He didn't love me. He'd just taken advantage of me. I'd needed someone to see me, to love me and care for me, and he just happened to be the mysterious customer who was a fan of waitress number 7 which was me.How was I supposed to know that the sweet gentleman who took me on countless dates and got me so many nice gifts would become so petty after a breakup? I couldn't wait to be back in NYC, I would make sure to get him arrested for stealing my money, and for sending me threat messages. “You're not going to think about that motherfucker this early in the morning. You
Esther's POV. Before I met Lily, I'd thought she was just the quiet little girl but after meeting her, I felt like I'd unlocked the chattiness in her. She'd gotten back from the grocery store a few hours ago and she hadn't stopped talking about anything and everything. She told me about the kind of buildings she saw, told me about the toys she saw that were already in her collection, she even told me how James had reacted to the Christmas songs in the grocery store. And that wasn't surprising anyway. Though it wasn't a really huge progress, I found it really nice that James accompanied Lily to get the ingredients. That made me feel like my true mission in this mansion would be easy to accomplish, even though I knew that thought was me being a little too delusional. The aroma of ginger and flour wafted through my nostrils as I lifted the cookies off the tray. Lily stood beside me, placing her hands on the island while she struggled to see the top of the island. I couldn't help
James POV. After what felt like an exhausting three hours, Lily and I finally got home with the groceries. We'd spent that much time because apparently, there was a queue. I'd have contacted the store owner for VIP treatment, but Lily would hate that she didn't pick up the ingredients into the basket by herself. There were usually never queues at the mall but since it's the holidays, a lot of people seemed to be buying ingredients. The thought of it made my jaws clench. Why couldn't people just treat December like any other month? What made the holidays so special that it had to come with so much celebrations?“Not everyone's Christmas got ruined James. Quit the thought,” my innervoice reminded me, making me shove back my thoughts. Right. Everyone was happy and living their lives while mine was crumbling down in this particular month so many years ago. No matter how much I tried to think past it, it remained imprinted in my mind and–“Esther! Your leg’s okay!” Lily squealed as
Esther's POV. “This is why you shouldn't be here. You're clumsy and weak,” James hissed, tilting me back to balance while at it. My head throbbed faintly as the blood in my face flowed down to my body. My brows furrowed, my jaws clenching. What the hell did he mean by that? I squared my shoulders, staring him down even though my insides bubbled with anxiety. “Sir, that was a mistake.” “How convenient. If you make small mistakes like this, how will you take care of my niece?” He queried, narrowing his eyes at me. Was he really being serious right now? I mean, I'd suspected he'd been wanting me out of the mansion. That was the only logical reason for him monitoring me whenever I was with Lily, but I never thought he'd be this open about it. “I'm–I’m perfectly capable of taking care of Lily, Sir James. If I wasn't, Madam Patricia wouldn't have hired me,” I stated, making sure my tone sounded as firm as I imagined. He shook his head in disapproval like those words didn't do enoug
Esther's POV. It took Madam Patricia's intervention to stop James from firing me on my very first day. And ever since then I'd tried to tread more carefully because the young billionaire didn't play about his privacy. He gave me a strict warning: moving forward, I was to stay away from my room and everything that concerned him.Even though I planned to follow his warning to the letter, I still couldn't help myself from meddling a little bit.I'd been working here for the past three days and in those three days, I'd tried to study him. So far, I knew he liked his coffee with no sugar, worked twenty out of twenty four hours and was an entirely different person with Lily. But even that didn't soften his hatred for the holidays. He still stayed away from activities related to it, avoided decorated rooms and made sure to have his headphones on whenever Lily played Christmas songs.I'd figured that the only way to get James Silver to indulge in Christmas activities was through his niece
Esther's POV. Like his voice had control of my body, I scrambled off the stool, chest heaving. Fear spread through me, clinging to me like a second skin. I stared at the same man I'd seen earlier today, my heart fluttering with a feeling I found too strange to name. Madam Patricia had told me he was her son.James Silver–the CEO of the Silver Conglomerates and my secret mission in this mansion. His eyes darkened as he stared at me and I just couldn't help but wonder how he could still look so handsome while being displeased. My insides twisted painfully with anxiety. Madam Patricia had told me to get the house in high holiday spirits and Lily had been more than happy to help. We'd first thought of decorating the mansion after which we would start decorating the Christmas tree. While we'd decorated rooms earlier, I'd gotten along really fast with the five-year old and I already liked being around the little ball of sweetness, like my mom would say. She'd even gone to get more su
