“I quit!” I shrieked as I slammed the files on my boss’s table, and the shock on her face was enough to tell me I had screwed up, but I didn’t care.
I never would have imagined that word could come out of my mouth after the years I’d spent at the news company trying to make a name for myself. I worked as a reporter at a broadcasting house, which had been my dream ever since I was young, but that wasn’t my ultimate goal.
I wanted to be a news anchor, not just a reporter, and I thought that would be possible if I devoted my entire life to making it work. I graduated top of my class, top of my peers during the internship, and was considered the best junior reporter the broadcasting house ever had, but what was the use of that if your supervisor would never let you shine?
“What? Did you just say that to threaten me?” Ms. Beatrice, my supervisor, had made my work life hell. She always stole the credit for the stories I covered or gave them to someone else, which had led to me not being promoted for three years.
“Threaten you? No, that’s not a threat, I’m done! I have been tolerating your bullshit all this while, but I quit!” I said, slamming my resignation letter, which I had tucked away for a year, never believing I would actually turn in, onto her desk. It was long overdue.
I wouldn’t have come to my senses about Beatrice, like every other time, if she hadn’t stolen an exclusive story I had covered. I’d been promised a promotion if I handled it myself, but she gave it to a junior, which earned her a promotion, not me.
Wondering why she hated me? I didn’t know, but I also didn’t give a fuck.
“You are going to regret this… this insolent behavior! You will regret this!” she screamed, but I just scoffed. “No, I won’t.”
“You think you’re all that because you cover some stories, but let me tell you there are thousands of you ready to take your place, so you better think twice before you make this mistake!” she rasped, and I had never seen Beatrice so out of breath. Perhaps this was heaven's reward for me; seeing Beatrice so uneasy on my last day was the sweet consolation I needed.
“You think so? Then employ them,” I replied as I walked out of the office. I noticed my team members staring at me like I had grown horns as I cleared out my desk. There had been more cases like this in the past, and instead of getting angry, I had swallowed everything up.
“Have you lost it? Are you really leaving? Don’t get on Beatrice’s bad side like this, you won’t survive in this field!” My team members bombarded me with worries, but instead of replying, I just bowed my head, bade my final farewell, and left.
None of them were my friends, so there was no reason to act like we were close. I walked with my head high until I got to my car, but the moment I got in, I broke down.
“Ahhh!” I screamed as I slammed my hands on the steering wheel, pouring out my frustration. All my hard work over the years had just gone down the drain; no sane person wouldn’t lose their mind. But after my little show of frustration, I picked myself up.
I would rather not be anywhere close to that place, so I drove off. But I circled the city until it was evening. I stopped in front of a bar, and it felt like the right place to be.
“Maybe I should just have a drink,” I muttered, though I didn’t know if it was a good idea because I hadn’t had a drink in a long time, and I couldn’t hold my liquor well. “I will just have a glass,” I pouted as I got out of the car, but that turned out to be wrong.
“More!” I shrieked as I passed my glass to the bartender. If my brain hadn’t fried yet, I should have been on my fourth glass of whiskey.
I completely ignored all the creeps around me as I drowned myself in alcohol, but everything changed when he came around, taking a seat beside me and engulfing me in his scent…fresh forest mixed with tobacco.
“Looks like you’ve had too much to drink,” I heard the man beside me say, and I raised my head from my glass, ready to take offense. But my words got stuck in my mouth as I saw his face.
“I’ll be damned!” I breathed, freezing as I stared at him. He had a well-sculpted face, with a perfect jawline and cheekbones, honey-brown hair, full bloodshot plump lips, and gray eyes that stared into my soul. My face felt hot just locking gazes with him, but there was another part of my body that was hot… you know.
Brielle’s POV I tried to push the man away, but he didn't budge as if he really wanted his son to walk in on us, and I didn't know if this made me a hypocrite, especially after what we had just done, but I really didn't want Niel walking in on us. “Please, Mr. Brooke, I beg..." I was saying it, but I heard some voices outside the room, telling Niel that I went down to the restroom, and he hissed in frustration, walking away from the door. I released my breath, which I didn't know I was holding, while I clung tightly to the man I should be running away from, but I was just happy that I escaped the crisis. It was finally time to address the elephant, I thought as I tore myself away from Neil's father. I turned to look at the man, who didn't look bothered, and I regretted giving in to my desires to get entangled with my fiance's father, but I knew I could still turn this around. I just had to forget that I was moaning to his fingers some seconds ago and beg him to keep our secret
Brielle’s POV "No..." My words got muffled with a kiss from him, and without caring about anything, I submitted to his touch, letting myself lose as his tongue wallowed into my mouth, tasting every corner of his mouth, and I got drunk on the taste of the wine in his wine. The kiss was definitely intoxicating, but it made me want more. “Urhh!” I let out sharp moans as I felt his hands squeeze my ass roughly while he pressed his body to mine, my perky breasts rubbing against his toned chest while our lips fought for dominance. We only let go when we both ran out of breath, our foreheads resting against each other as we both caught our breaths, and it was as if we had forgotten our relationship for just a second as we rested against each other. The kiss we had was different...different from what I was used to, different from the time Niel kissed me halfheartedly when he wanted to get laid, and definitely was different from the one we shared at the hotel last night. This felt f
Brielle’s POV I felt like heaven was mocking me because out of every old man that I could have a fling with out there, it had to be my future father-in-law. Could this be my karma? I thought of running away, but what would be my excuse? I definitely wasn't going to tell Niel the reason I couldn't stay, so I decided to keep my cool. "Hello, Miss, I'm Clark Brooke,” he said as he extended his hands towards me, but I couldn't take them, and it seems he caught on, as he took his seat immediately, not wanting Niel to be suspicious. So his name was Clark Brooke, the chairman of Brooke Construction, the leading construction company in the country, and he was the father of my fiance, who I had been with for six years. This couldn't have been more interesting. You have messed up, Brielle! I screamed in my head as my shaky hands moved to pick up the glass of water because I was suddenly parched, but I froze when I heard his voice directed at me. “Brielle, is it?” I heard him ask, and I l
Brielle's POV Shame. That was what I felt when I woke up in the penthouse, my clothes scattered across the room, the bed soaked with the release of the hot sex I had with a man who was twice my age, and my entire body sore after a night of reckless passion. I couldn't believe I had stooped so low and betrayed my boyfriend like this. I felt like a fool when it finally dawned on me just how foolish I had been. I had slept with another man while in a relationship, and what was even crazier was that I had enjoyed every second of it. As if that wasn't bad enough, he was a potential client. How was I supposed to face him in the future? I just hoped he wouldn't sign the contract with us. "But thank goodness he's not here to witness this moment," I whispered. When I realized the room was empty, I decided to make a run for it. I hurriedly slipped back into my crumpled dress, trying to tame my messy, sex-tousled hair with my fingers. I looked around for the pile of used condoms because w
Sergio’s POVThe silence in the room was suffocating as I calculated my answer. I could lie, be cruel, pretend that night had meant nothing, but why hurt her more when I knew the truth? That night had been the best of my life. I still remembered the way her moans rattled the hotel walls, the sight o
Sergio’s POVNatalie Williams was a force to reckon with, which was exactly why I knew better than to test her patience. The woman had a spine of steel and eyes that saw through every lie. I racked my brain for a decent excuse, though I already knew none of them would sound convincing. What was I s
Cassie’s POV“What!” My mother’s voice thundered as she glared at Beatrice, and I knew instantly that if I didn’t step in, she would start questioning the closeness between Sergio and me.“Stop it, Beatrice, that’s rude!” I snapped, and soon others echoed my words, shaming her. Beatrice’s cheeks fla
Cassie’s POVI slapped his arm off my body, and even though my body craved his touch so much since it was familiar, I knew the sick history we had should be crushed and forgotten, because no one must ever hear that I had fucked my soon-to-be stepfather.“Your body remembers my touch,” he hollered, a
