My heart sank, torn between disbelief and disappointment. How did that happen?

“Krista, can you check if that’s your necklace?” Alpha Sean commanded. Krista walked to the omega who found it, inspecting if she had found the right item. After a couple of seconds, she turned to Alpha Sean and confirmed.

“Yes, Alpha. This is the Jade necklace that my dead mother had given me on my last birthday before she died. Thank you…thank you for getting it back,” Krista said, crying. She held the green necklace next to her heart and looked genuinely happy that she found it at last.

Taking a deep breath, Sean looked at me and asked, "Mallory, do you have any explanation for this? How did Krista’s necklace end up in your belongings?"

The room fell into a tense silence, waiting for my response. “I…I don’t know,” I said. My voice, trembling. “I swear to God, I didn't take it. Someone must have planted it here! Please, you gotta believe me.”
