Sean
"I hereby call to order the official meeting of the City Legion's board of leaders."
Everyone in the room became attentive as the assembly began with my opening statement. All eyes were on me as I addressed the members.
"We have received a timely notice, which is to be filed with the minutes of this meeting. Lizzie, do we have enough members present for a quorum?" I asked my secretary.
Lizzie approached me and handed over a folder containing today's agenda. I noticed that everyone already had their copies before I arrived. While I read through the details, Lizzie started calling out the names of the board members.
As the youngest member of the board at 35, it was interesting to be among these highly experienced alphas. But I got used to it, eventually, and became comfortable with my role as their leader.
I am Sean Ascott, alpha of the Silverpaw Pack, and head of the City Legion, a unified group of werewolf packs blending in the human cities throughout the continent. My domain is Whitewood City, the largest of the 15 cities within the state of Columbus.
After the roll call, I acknowledged Lizzie with a nod and continued, "You have all received and reviewed the minutes from the previous meeting. If there are no corrections, I motion to proceed."
Alpha Cassius, the former head of the City Legion, seconded the motion.
With the formalities concluded, it was time to begin the actual discussion.
"Let's get straight to the point, Alpha Sean," Alpha Cassius interjected, his tone sharp. As the leader of the Alpine Pack, which used to be the top pack in the region, he didn't hold back his directness. "We're here to discuss your plans for finding a Luna."
My body tensed up, fully aware that this topic would take center stage during the meeting. As their leader, it was expected of me to marry and find a suitable Luna. However, my inability to find my mate had been a source of frustration for the City Legion. For us werewolves, remaining single, especially for an alpha, was considered a curse.
“You are made aware of my plan to attend the recently concluded mating ritual. I want everyone to know that—”
“That you failed, AGAIN, in finding your mate. Is that it?” Alpha Cassius smirked, making me clench my fist as I tried my best to control my anger for his disrespect. “This thing could have been settled long ago if only you agreed to marry my Beta daughter, Krista.”
The room was filled with whispers and growls. It was pretty obvious why Alpha Cassius was itching for this marriage to happen. It was all because of his ambition in taking over the human cities and making them slaves to our kind. He wanted war, but cannot instigate it with only him and a few supporters backing his plans. He needed my influence, my connections, and my pack. Once he succeeded in making me his son-in-law, it would be the end of humankind.
"Enough!" I exclaimed, exhaling deeply. "There's no need for all this commotion because I have already found my mate that night."
The room was filled with murmurs once again. Some of them looked genuinely happy, while others like Alpha Cassius and his minions looked surprised. I wasn’t planning on revealing this information until I got a hold of my mate but I was left without a choice.
Another alpha, Alpha Alexander of Midnight Pack, raised his hand. “If you really found your mate, where is she?”
“You’ll meet her when the time is right. For now, we are still getting to know each other and was focusing on integrating our lives together. Just give me a month to settle everything.”
“Then it’s settled,” Alpha Cassius stated. Slyness was definitely hiding between his fake smiles. “I would be happy to host the welcoming party for your MATE. That is if she really exists.”
“Oh, she’s definitely real!” I said without backing down. “Make sure to prepare your biggest and grandest party to welcome her. My MATE AND FUTURE WIFE deserves only the best.”
**************
I stared blankly at the wooden desk plate sitting on top of my table. My thoughts lingered on the event that happened earlier causing me to heave a sigh.
Hoping to find something to calm my thoughts, I grabbed the pair of Chinese meditation balls from its box and played with it. As my fingers danced over the smooth surface, a gentle clinking sound filled the air, creating a tranquil ambiance that filled the entire room.
“I heard what happened to the assembly earlier. Is it true that you already found your mate?”
I must have spaced out completely that I failed to notice my Beta entering my office. Normally, I would freak out with someone barging inside my room without my approval but not in Clark’s case. He was my best friend, my brother, and my most trusted companion. Although we didn’t share the same mother, our bond was proven to stand the test of time.
A faint smile tugged at the corner of my lips. "Yes, I did."
Clark’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. "You have? Dude, finally! After long years of searching…”
My brother witnessed every heartache I got from my years of fruitless search. He had been with me for so long.
“I know,” I responded. “Who would have thought, right?”
But then, he realized something. “But why haven't you brought her into the pack then?" he questioned, his voice tinged with curiosity and concern.
"Well, it's complicated," I confessed. "She's human."
Shock reverberated through Clark, rendering him speechless. After a moment, concern etched across his face. Clark was an intelligent wolf so he easily got what was happening.
"What about her safety? Shouldn't we protect her? What if the enemy found out who she was and tries to harm her to get to you?" His voice was filled with genuine worry.
I nodded solemnly, understanding the gravity of the situation. "That's precisely why I haven't approached her," I replied with a touch of remorse laced in my voice. "I fear that she might become overwhelmed or endangered if I reveal myself to her.”
“Good call. After all, she is human and I doubt she knew about our kind.” Clark nodded in understanding.
“But we didn’t have much time," I declared before standing from my chair and looking outside my window. "The City Legion is pressuring me to introduce her to everyone. We need to act fast but with her welfare as our main consideration. We didn’t want our enemy to get their hands on her before we did.”
“Leave that to me,” Clark exclaimed. His eyes were filled with determination. “Just tell me who she is and where to possibly find her.”
A smile etched my face as I tapped Clark in gratitude. He just nodded before storming out of my room leaving me in my solitude once again.
I walked back to my table and poured myself a glass of scotch, remembering that moment when I saw my mate for the first time. She was perfect in my eyes, capturing my heart completely. But she left me with a deep longing that I haven’t felt before when fate decided to tear us away again.
“Don’t worry, Sean. We're getting closer to reuniting with our mate," my wolf Lucian spoke in my mind. I downed the contents of the glass in my hand, reflecting on the promise I had made to both my wolf and myself.
Mallory"Please look after the children, Cindy." I glanced at Lily and Robbie playing in a room with other kids before giving a smile to the social worker I've known since I was young.Cindy held my hand and reassured me, saying, "Don't worry. They'll be safer here than on the streets."“I know,” I said while nodding. I took a deep breath as the social worker informed me of the challenges that children face in their search for a permanent home.“I will update you about what’s gonna happen as soon as I got something. Can I have your number?”“Ahmm…I don’t have a cellphone,” I stated honestly. Cindy seemed to understand my situation and asked for another information. “How about your address?”“I…I…” My throat struggled to find words as my body tensed to the topic. I plastered a faint smile before continuing. “I have none.”“Oh, Mallory. Are you sure you’re okay?” I saw worry etched on Cindy’s face. “Where are you staying now? How are you supporting yourself—”"Cindy, I'm okay," I assure
SeanI felt my heart pounding in my chest as I stared at the motionless figure on the hospital bed. I desperately wanted her to open her eyes and assure me that she was okay. But fate had been unkind, and I felt helpless seeing my mate in that state.Everything about this day felt like a nightmare. The scent of herbs and medicine filled the air, a constant reminder of the medical care we continued to give her.I approached the doctor, hoping he had the answers I needed. "Why isn't she waking up?" I asked, my voice filled with concern. "Is there something wrong? Will she be alright?"The doctor, a calm and composed middle-aged man with kind eyes, placed a comforting smile on his face. "I understand your worries, Alpha, but please try to remain calm. Your mate's condition is stable. Sometimes, it just takes time for a human to regain consciousness after a traumatic event. We will continue to monitor her closely. But for now, let her body adjust at its own pace.”Remembering her ordeal
KristaMy steps echoed loudly in the hallway. I rushed to find my alpha father, needing answers fast!"Good morning, Lady Krista," the omega maid greeted politely, bowing her head and making way for me."Get out of my way!" I barked, shoving her aside roughly. But instead of silence, she spoke softly, irritating me more."I'm sorry, Lady Krista,” she whispered submissively. Her apology annoyed me even more. I turned, my eyes flashing with anger. "Did you actually speak with me without my permission?" I sneered, and my hand met her cheek with a sharp slap.Tears welled up in her eyes as she whimpered, "Please, Lady Krista, I didn't mean to upset you.""Didn’t mean to upset me? Huh! Who gave you the right to talk to me? You are nothing but a slave born to serve me and those within my ranks!” The omega shuddered at the sound of my voice."Guards!" I called out, and one appeared immediately. "Take her to the dungeon and teach her a lesson for crossing me.""No, please, have mercy! I won't
MalloryI woke up feeling disoriented, my mind was all foggy as I tried to piece together what happened before I blacked out. Hooded figures attacking me, that's the last thing I remember. Am I dead?I got up and found myself in a cozy bed inside a clean room. A woman, looking like a maid, came up to me with a warm greeting. "Good morning, madam," she said, bowing her head.Madam? Did she just call me that? I looked around, checking if there was someone else she might be talking to. But no, it was just me. So, I pointed at myself and asked, "Are you talking to me?""Yes, madam. Do you need anything? Are you hungry?" the maid inquired. I was still confused but managed to respond, "A cup of coffee will do.""Right away, madam," she said, surprisingly kind, which made me feel even more convinced that I must be in paradise for sure. The maid handed me the coffee, and as soon as I took a sip, my stomach growled."Are you sure you don't want to eat?" she asked again. "There are some pancake
SeanI stood tall before the Silverpaw council, my presence commanding respect and authority. This was the moment to reveal my most profound secret to them."Brothers," I addressed them, my voice firm and unwavering, "I've called this meeting for a matter of utmost importance. I have found a mate, and she happens to be a human."Delta Brixton, a senior council member known for his stern demeanor, interrupted with a snarl, "A human mate, Alpha? Are you out of your mind? You know the risk they pose to our kind."My eyes narrowed, "Watch your words, Delta. She's not just a human. She's my mate, and I won't tolerate any disrespect towards her."Delta's expression soured further, and he sneered, "A human whore, that's what she is. You're putting our entire pack at risk for a human?"In a flash, my hand shot out, gripping Delta Brixton's neck with a force that conveyed both my protectiveness and my dominance. The council members around us tensed, sensing the gravity of the situation."I won
SeanI clutched a glass of scotch, the amber liquid swirling in the dim light. Then, a knock echoed through the room, prompting me to speak up. "Come in," I said."Greetings, Alpha Sean," Krista stated as she entered. Her alluring scent filled the air, and her revealing clothes spoke louder than words on what she was trying to do. "I was told you wanted to talk to me.""You've got some explaining to do," I told her. She pretended not to know what I meant, as I put on some ice on my drink."What do you mean, Alpha? I don't understand.""Stop pretending. You know exactly what I'm talking about,” I retorted as I drank the contents of my drink. With a coy expression, she asked, "Wait, are you talking about the human girl, Mallory Wanless?"My heart skipped a beat hearing my mate's name for the first time. But I pressed on, determined to know that truth from her. "Yes, I'm talking about Mallory. Why did you hurt her?"Krista kept up her innocent facade and began crying fake tears. "I didn
SeanAs I entered Mallory's room, concern filled me. "Hey, Clark," I said to my Beta, who was diligently guarding her. After what happened earlier, there was no one I trusted more with my mate's life than my brother. "How is she doing?"Clark replied, "Her vitals are stable, but she hasn't woken up yet after the shock."I heaved a sigh, worry gnawing at me as I considered the impact of the recent events on our future council meetings."What's wrong, brother?" he asked, sensing my unease.I confided in Clark, "Mallory is being painted as the villain in everyone's eyes. It's going to be tough to convince the council that she poses no threat to us."Clark furrowed his eyebrows and teased, "Mallory, huh?"Trying to lighten the mood, I smiled and said, "Mallory Wanless. At least I know my mate's name now, thanks to Krista's meddling."Our conversation continued, and I shared my inner turmoil about how to handle the situation. Clark's disgust for Krista was evident, and I couldn't blame him
MalloryI opened my eyes, and to my surprise, there was a strange guy leaning in to kiss me. Shock and fear took over, and without thinking, I pushed him away."You pervert!" I shouted, quickly wrapping myself in a white blanket that lay on my bed. “What do you think you’re doing?”"Why? What's wrong?" he asked, looking genuinely puzzled, as if he couldn't comprehend what he had done. I rolled my eyes at the scene. The nerve of this man to pretend he didn’t do anything wrong."You tried to kiss me, you creep!!" I fired back. “I am no Sleeping Beauty and I don’t need a man to wake me up. Got that?”But as I said those words, I noticed a glimmer of innocence in his eyes. “Sleeping Beauty? Who’s that?”He looked really confused as if he had no idea what I was referring to. Then, I remembered what happened. I almost forgot that I was inside a werewolf lair. Obviously, they didn’t have television here.“You know what? Just forget it,” I scoffed. “Just leave me alone. I can’t stand being ar
