Chapter 7

Mallory

I woke up feeling disoriented, my mind was all foggy as I tried to piece together what happened before I blacked out. Hooded figures attacking me, that's the last thing I remember. Am I dead?

I got up and found myself in a cozy bed inside a clean room. A woman, looking like a maid, came up to me with a warm greeting. "Good morning, madam," she said, bowing her head.

Madam? Did she just call me that? I looked around, checking if there was someone else she might be talking to. But no, it was just me. So, I pointed at myself and asked, "Are you talking to me?"

"Yes, madam. Do you need anything? Are you hungry?" the maid inquired. I was still confused but managed to respond, "A cup of coffee will do."

"Right away, madam," she said, surprisingly kind, which made me feel even more convinced that I must be in paradise for sure. The maid handed me the coffee, and as soon as I took a sip, my stomach growled.

"Are you sure you don't want to eat?" she asked again. "There are some pancake
