Harley’s P.O.V.
Hearing that Alpha command, everyone in the room stood up and bowed, baring their necks in submission. They sang in unison. “Greetings, Alpha Carlos!” Another Alpha? Gosh! I swiftly composed myself and stepped away, raising my head to see the face of the only sensible man in this meeting. He must be a righteous elder with accurate knowledge of werewolf constitution. However, as soon as my eyes caught the sight of Alpha Carlos, I forgot to breathe. The stranger from the Moon bar was there to turn my world upside down. Alpha Carlos stood at the center of the room, radiating power like a force of nature. Tall, broad shoulders, lean yet muscular figure, with sharp, calculating emerald eyes that seemed to pierce through me, were the highlight of his domineering personality. His plump lips curled up in a devilish smirk as he spoke. “So, Alpha Xander is your husband, Harley!” The hint of amusement in Carlos’s tone sent shivers down my spine, replaying the scene of my promise to him. One glance at his face refreshed my memory of kissing him passionately. Goddess! What had I done? Shuddering uncontrollably, I tore my gaze away and lowered my head in embarrassment. My mistake in darkness was back to haunt me during the day. Carlos asked them to sit down and resumed the proceeding, questioning icily. “What will you like to say about the video proof, Xander?” My pulse was drumming in my ears as I tried to focus on my case. But Carlos’s manly scent enveloping my existence trembled my heart, he was wearing the same perfume as the last night. Before I could calm my racing heart, Xander’s response hit me out of nowhere. It threw me for a loop, as he said. “Uncle, how can you side with an omega?” Uncle? The Moon Goddess on the bike, what the hell was happening here? My lips parted in a silent scream as I stared at Carlos unblinkingly, reeling in astonishment. Xander’s words continued to hammer my head. “I am your nephew, facing marital abuse for so long. Shouldn’t you side with me, Uncle?” As he began to protest, blackmailing Carlos with family ties. It gave me enough time to race my brain for more elaboration. During three years of my marriage, I had neither seen any uncle, nor he attended our wedding. Xander’s late father was the only heir of the Ledger family. Then how? Although I hadn’t met Xander’s Uncle at Ledger’s mansion, still, Carlos seemed familiar. It was like I had seen him before. But the main question was: Where? I didn’t have time to ponder over this query as Carlos growled, speaking coldly. “You are an Alpha, Xander. And according to laws, your case must be presented in the royal advisory council. But here you are, bullying an omega with your elders. Is that what Alpha Simon taught you?” He mentioned Xander’s grandpa’s name, shaming him with the remarkable legacy of Ledgers. His firm order left no room for discussion. “As the chief royal advisor, I am issuing the divorce certificate to Xander Ledger and Harley Cooper. The cheater Alpha will pay one million dollars’ alimony to compensate for the emotional damage in marriage.” Carlos eyed his Beta, who printed out the certificates and gave him for signature, completing the legal process in a jiffy. My heart danced in glee to finally witness the sign of my freedom. After Xander’s betrayal, spending a moment more with him was worse than hell. If it wasn’t for Carlos, I would be begging him for forgiveness. Planning to thank him later, I was gazing at the file in Carlos’s hands when Elder Harold’s furious voice ruined my happiness. He lashed out, “Crystal River Pack isn’t a place where an illegitimate bastard can come and force his opinion on us. How dare you step foot on our land when we kicked you out ten years ago, Carlos? We were silent because of your imperial badge, but not anymore. Get out of our pack!” “Oh, really!” Carlos chuckled and handed the file to his Beta after signing. “You have the nerve to challenge the authority of a chief royal advisor, Harold.” He moved with the speed of light and grabbed Elder Harold’s collar from behind, banging his head on the table. Carlos pressed his face against the hard surface and growled loudly. “You can’t bully me like a helpless boy in the past. As a court official, I can take over this puny pack in a heartbeat. So, shut your mouth, Harold. My dick is bigger than yours.” Shoot! Now I realized the true identity of Alpha Carlos, remembering the rumors in the pack. I had heard that Alpha Simon cheated on his mate and married his lover against the elders’ wishes. A son was born out of that union who was banished from the pack grounds. Alpha Simon sent him to his affair wife’s hometown for safety. After years of banishment, Carlos was back as the chief royal advisor. His high status in Alpha King’s court challenged the entire Crystal River Pack. He flexed his influence, silencing the opposition. I was able to get my divorce certificate without any trouble because of him. As Xander began to talk to his uncle after meeting, I chickened out of the court and left, soaring high in the sky. It was time to collect my stuff and leave the Ledger mansion for good. I went to my ex’s home and gathered my clothes, ignoring the heart fluttering moments scattered everywhere. My love for Xander was laughing at me in every corner. The gifts, decoration pieces, paintings, I selected everything according to Xander’s taste, creating a warm space for us. He didn’t even hesitate before setting our home on fire with his betrayal. I bid farewell to my painful past with a heavy heart and climbed the stairs to the first floor to say goodbye to Xander’s mom. Luna Alicia was the only person kind to me. However, a stern voice echoing in the surroundings halted me in my tracks. “Where are you going, Harley?” Xander entered the living hall with Ella, staring at me with confusion. I had to flash the divorce certificate before him to jog his memory. “We are divorced, Alpha Xander. I won’t live here anymore.” “Oh, you will!” Xander spoke icily. “Don’t forget that you are still an omega in my pack. You will continue to serve my family just like your mother!” My mom was an omega, working as a maid in this mansion. I also joined her when I turned five. Xander used his Alpha status as leverage and spoke. “If you are thinking that one million dollars of alimony will give you a fresh start, here’s the news for you. It won’t! In fact, you have to pay me one million dollars, Harley!” “But why?” My heart thumped at the mention of such a big amount, I choked out, “I have never spent your money on pretty clothes, make up, or other hobbies, Alpha Xander. How can I be indebted to you?”Harley’s P.O.V. The sudden burst of cold air whooshed in along with that intruder, but it surrounded me like the fire of fury. That familiar low voice was deadly calm, but beneath it boiled something savage. I turned my head slightly, just enough to see him. A wave of relief washed over me as that tall Alpha figure was the ray of hope in impenetrable darkness. His burning gaze fell on me as he growled.“What are you doing here?”The Alpha barging inside was none other than Carlos, my ex’s uncle. He came like the angel from heaven in this critical situation. His broad shoulders, framed in a leather jacket, were dusted with ash and moonlight, making him look like a prestigious monarch. His eyes glowed gold, flicking over the room like a predator stalking a cage full of prey. The vampire holding me faltered, loosening his grip. He spoke up before me.“She is mine. You have no right to enter my property, Alpha Carlos!”“Oh, hell no!”Alpha growled, stepping forward. “Touch this girl ag
Harley’s P.O.V.As Carlos stood up for me in the critical situation, my work life became peaceful. My boss didn’t fire me despite Xander’s complaint. Moreover, Jenna offered me to share her apartment with her, solving my residence issue. “We can split the bills and rent, Harley. It’s difficult for me to pay all the expenses alone.”So, Jenna became my savior in the human city, letting me start fresh. I was truly grateful to her for her help. After Ella’s betrayal, I thought I couldn’t trust anyone, but Jenna had secured a special place in my heart. We hit it off shortly after living together.Working at the moon bar was a great experience, but after a few days, it occurred to me I needed a second career to earn a significant amount. The minimum wage and meagre tips wouldn’t pay off my dept. Although I was hired on customers’ demand, nobody was ready to tip a chubby server well. All those so-called kinky men wanted to sleep with me in the first place. As my job wasn’t to fulfill thei
Carlos’s P.O.V.Regardless of the heaps of files on my desk, I wasn’t working anymore. The numbers, the clauses, royal matters, none of it made any difference. All I could think about it was Harley, that omega from the human bar. The way she had looked at me, and the way she ignored me, everything was carved on my soul, replaying all the scenes in a repeat mode in my mind. Firstly, she kissed me boldly, clumsy and desperate. There was no title, no courtesy, no protocol when she approached me with her honesty. I hadn’t been touched like this for years, not like a man. I was only a person behind the facade of the court official and a notable Alpha. As the stars helped me now, I was unable to think about anything else except Harley. The one who promised to have sex with me and then changed her mind after learning about my identity.Strange!Wasn’t it?Usually, girls fought to gain my attention as I was on the top of the ranks, having the power to alter others’ fates in a heartbeat. Harley’s P.O.V.A chill ran down my spine, as now glaring at from head to toe Xander was criticizing my appearance. His shock turned into mockery as he chuckled.“Well, well, well! Aren’t you the same pig who used to carry my name?See, what has happened to you!”My breath caught in my throat as Xander’s deadly smirk screamed trouble. The dread crawled up the back of my neck like the icy fingers to see him leaning at his chair. After spending three years with him as his wife, I was very well aware that this calmness after the initial lash out was a sign of carnage. One should run as fast as he could to save his life. However, I was stuck there, unable to move. Xander spoke with disgust.“Here you are, serving drinks in this human dump. Why am I not surprised, Harley?”The tray in my hand wobbled. I had to grip it tighter to stop myself from dropping it. Xander’s arrival here could be the end of my job, so I begged him.“Alpha, please. It’s a human town and …”“Don’t call me that!”Xan
Harley’s P.O.V.My mind went blank all of a sudden, leaving me at the mercy of that smirking Alpha alone. I had a hard time guessing what he was trying to implore. The smell of aged whiskey and faint pine in the air was the first thing I noticed after Carlos’s statement, hinting towards the fact that he was already drunk. So, I spoke respectfully.“What can I bring for you, Sir?”Carlos let out a loud growl and sat up, thickening the air with his intense, dominant aura. It was like the room itself recoiled at his mere existence as he commanded.“Alpha Carlos! That’s my name, princess. You can call me Carlos!”A wolf-less omega like me couldn’t stand against his mighty command, lowering my head immediately. “Yes, Alpha.”The room was engulfed by deafening silence as I could hear my own frantic heartbeat drumming in my ears. It was the fear of angering an overbearing Alpha, which helped me calm my nerves and look up.“Alpha, I ...”Standing at a mere two feet away from me, Carlos gave
Harley’s P.O.V.My query fairly amused that couple before me. Ella’s sinister laughter revived my injuries as she said,“You are such an ingrate, Harley. Xander has spent millions on your mother, and you don’t even remember it? How shameless!”After enduring countless difficulties in her life, my mom fell ill. She had a surgery to fix her heart. Unfortunately, the best doctors in the pack couldn’t save her life and I lost my only parent. It never occurred to me that Xander would keep a record of those medical bills as he added to Ella’s statement.“You are right, darling. It’s in Harley’s nature to harm her benefactor. And you, omega. Repay me one million dollars. I am not running a charity center here!”He threw a blue file on my face, darkening my world. My hands were trembling when I opened it and saw the records. Even after the alimony, I had to shell out one million dollars to wipe the slate clean. It was like I fell into another dark pit after escaping an abusive relationship.
