The night stretched on, cold and quiet except for the faint rustling of leaves in the breeze. My boots crunched against the gravel path as I kept moving forward. The sting in my scraped palms was a dull throb now, barely noticeable compared to the whirlwind of emotions swirling in my chest.

I didn’t know where I was going. Part of me hoped I’d stumble across something—anything—that could make sense of the chaos my life had become. The other part of me didn’t care where I ended up as long as it wasn’t back home, where Ethan, Greg and my mother’s tears waited for me.

As I walked, a faint sound caught my attention. I froze, my breath hitching as I strained to listen. Voices. Someone was talking—or maybe yelling? I couldn’t make out the words, but the tone was sharp, heated.

Curiosity pulled me forward, my feet moving almost of their own accord. The sound grew louder, more distinct, and I found myself slipping off the gravel path and into the shadows of a nearby alley. The dim

I turned, ready to leave, already picturing her curled up in that bed with her arms around herself again. She needed rest. Comfort. Space to think. I needed to tear down a few buildings, but that would have to wait. I was two steps from the door when the medicine man spoke again. “You know,” he said casually, “you could get a second chance mate.” I stopped. Cold. Not a step further. Not a fucking inch. Behind me, the wind outside howled through the thatched roof, but in the cabin, everything went still. I turned around slowly, letting my eyes settle on him without saying anything. Letting him feel that silence. That weight. He didn’t even flinch. Didn’t blink. Just stared back with that expression healers always wore when they thought they were being wise. Like the universe whispered secrets only they could understand. “A second chance mate,” I repeated, tasting the words. Letting them hang there. He nodded once, stepping closer to the fire, poking at the embers. “Yes. N

ETHAN ~ The door clicked shut behind me, and I just stood there for a second, staring at the warped wood, listening to the silence. My hand dragged up the back of my neck and into my hair, fingers pressing into my scalp like I could squeeze the frustration out through my skull. Fuck. The air outside was crisp but stale, the kind of stale that made my jaw clench. The quiet streets of Knoxl always felt too still when I was agitated. Too damn eerie. I could feel it again… those stares. That low hum of attention crawling along my skin like pins dragging across nerve endings. They were watching me. I didn’t know if it was the Elders, the townspeople, or some nosy shifters with nothing better to do, but I felt them. Burning holes in my back. Whispering shit just loud enough that my instincts caught it but my ears didn’t. I ignored it. I had more important things to deal with than fucking rumors or stares from people who couldn’t mind their business. First thing first… I had to find

I stared at him. My lips parted, but no sound came out. That couldn’t be right. What was he even saying? I let out a short, hollow laugh, the sound brittle in the quiet room. “How the hell would I have a close relationship with a man I’ve never even met?” Ethan frowned. “I don’t know. That’s just what she told me.” “Why would she say that?” I asked, almost to myself, because the more I thought about it, the less sense it made. A sharp chill ran through my body, curling low in my spine like something cold had slithered into me. I sat back against the couch and stared into nothing, trying to dig through my memories—anything that might make sense of what he just said. Had there been something? A moment? A face I forgot? I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to search the depths of my childhood. But it was just a blur. My mind was like a photo album with missing pages. Everything before a certain age was foggy. Distant. I couldn’t tell if that was normal or not. I dug harder. Tryi

  • Claimed By My Stepbrother    CHAPTER 161: That Can’t Be Right

I didn’t know what to think. Or feel. I think I was in a daze. One of those thick, woolly kinds that wrap around your brain and numb everything else. Everything was muffled, the voices, the footsteps, the whispers, even my own thoughts. It all felt distant, like I was watching the world through a fogged-up window. One minute, I was standing in the middle of a crowd being stared at like I’d grown a second head. The next, I was inside a building I didn’t even remember walking into. It was only when Ethan placed a glass in my hand that I blinked, my brain slowly crawling back to the present. “Here… have this,” he said gently. “Oh. Thanks.” My voice sounded weird, like it came from someone else entirely. I took the glass automatically and stared at the clear liquid for a second longer than necessary before sipping. The water was cold. Refreshingly so. It shocked my senses just enough to make the rest of the room snap into focus. That was the moment I really looked around. We wer

I stepped back slightly, the air suddenly feeling tight, suffocating. I could still feel the redhead girl’s eyes burning into me from the side, her expression unreadable now that she’d retreated behind the crowd. But it was the tension between Ethan and his father that made my skin crawl. No warmth. No reunion. No "you're finally home" welcome. Just a cold war in the middle of a crowd that somehow still felt too quiet. Ethan stayed quiet. The crowd stayed bowed. And I? I stood there like a sore thumb, a human in a place I had no business being, beside a man who radiated violence and ownership and love like they were the same damn thing. Then his father looked at me. A long, cold, unblinking stare. Like I was a stain. A disgusting stain whose very existence offended his bloodline. My chest tightened. I tried to hold his gaze, but it made my throat close. My feet shuffled backward half a step before I caught myself. Don’t you dare show fear, Camila! But I didn

  • Claimed By My Stepbrother    CHAPTER 159: Wait… Son?

We stepped out of the car and within seconds, it was like the whole goddamn forest came alive. People had gathered. Lots of them. Like they’d known we were coming, like some invisible alarm had gone off. Children peered from behind legs, grown men stood like statues, and women stood wide-eyed, whispering. It was... strange. Like we’d just walked into the climax of a fantasy novel. I half expected someone to raise a sword or start chanting in Latin. Then— “Zarek?” a soft voice said, cracking in disbelief. I turned. A girl with the brightest red hair I had ever seen was moving toward us—toward him. Her long legs carried her fast, her boots crunching on leaves and gravel, her green eyes brimming with tears. “Zarek?” she called again, voice louder. I blinked. Zarek? Ethan smiled. Or... Zarek smiled? What? My heart did something weird in my chest. It flipped—or maybe flopped—as she launched herself at him, arms wrapping tight around his torso like she was afraid he’d
