MasukEva Brooks:
"Are you serious?" I asked Ethan in shock, and he nodded, his lips curled in a smile. "Yeah. How much do you want me to pay you? But you must abide by my rules and work as my secretary only," he said. I gulped hard. "I haven't been a secretary before. I just graduated with a degree in software engineering, and I want to be a software developer. I applied at Almond Tech and they offered for me to start work by Monday," I replied. His brows furrowed. "I will pay you 2 million dollars. If you accept, you can come to work in my company by Monday. Failure to show up, then you lose, as I am in need of a new secretary." I gulped hard and accepted his card. "Fine. How about the medicine you want me to take?" I asked, as he had almost forgotten the contraceptive pill in his hands. "Oh, here it is." Ethan gave me the bottle. I took two pills and gulped them down with the bottle of water he gave me. "Don't forget. By Monday. If you fail to show up, I will get a replacement. I will be expecting you. What's your name?" Ethan paused, turning to walk away. Lowering my head and avoiding his green eyes, I replied, "Eva Brooks." "Alright, Eva. I will be looking forward to meeting you again. Take your things and leave. The hotel staff will be here to clean the room." After saying that, Ethan turned and walked out. My eyes fell on the red blood stain on his pristine white bedsheet. Looking at the blue card in my hand, I shook my head and went to reach for my handbag. I put the card away and took out my phone. I saw four missed calls from my mother. "Hello, Mom," I answered, and she yelled at me. "Eva, what did you do to provoke Jacob? He has cancelled his partnership with your father and called off your engagement. How can you cheat on him at a time like this, when he is planning to marry you? What came over you?" Mom yelled, and I felt guilty. "Mom, I am sorry. Layla set me up," I tried to explain, but Mom cut me off. "Shut up. Layla didn't set you up. You went to the man and cheated on Jacob. How can you do this to us? We disown you as our daughter. Don't bring your shameful self home to us again." Before I could explain, the call ended. Shaking my head, I stood in the hotel room and sighed. Gripping my phone tightly, I tried to call Jacob one last time to explain that it was all a mistake and I would never cheat on him. The phone rang and he ended it. When I tried to contact him again, I heard, "Sorry, the number you are trying to call does not exist." "What?" My brows furrowed upon realising Jacob has blocked me. Did five years of our relationship mean nothing to him? I knew Jacob had always wanted to have sex with me, but I stopped him and told him we should wait until marriage. Now, I cheated. Wiping my sobs away, I wore my black bra and pant, then reached for my green dress and wore it. After that, I wore my black shoes and adjusted my hair, taking a final glance at the room to ensure I didn't forget anything. I walked out while the hotel staff waiting went in to clean it. I made my way to the elevator and rode down to the last floor. When I walked out, I felt the peer of eyes on me, but no one stopped me. The impressive luxury hotel was filled with different calibre of people entering and going out. I exited the premises, recalling I wouldn't have come to this hotel if not for Layla's insistence. Hailing a taxi, I went home even though my mother had warned me not to return. I knew I had no one to go to. Jacob had broken up with me and I couldn't go to his place. Not just that, my relatives would be furious with me. It was through Jacob that my father's small loan company could soar higher. Now Jacob had withdrawn his support and demanded I repay him for all the money he had spent on me. I knew none of my family members would want to help me at this point. When I arrived home and paid the cab, I walked up nervously to the huge black gate of the bungalow house where my parents live. My father owned this house; he bought it after Jacob and I started dating. Reaching the gate, I knocked and the security man pulled it open. "Miss Eva, you are not allowed into the house," he said. My brows furrowed. "Why? This is my father's house. I want to see him and explain." I begged the security man, Tom, but he shook his head. "Your mother said if I let you in, I will lose my job. I don't want to lose my job, madam." Tom went back inside and locked the gate on me. "Wait, Tom." I knocked again, but he wouldn't answer. Sighing, I paced about the gate, thinking of what to do. I cannot believe my family would abandon me at a time like this. Was this how people fall from grace to grass? I tried calling my mother, but the number she used to call me wasn't connecting. Calling my older brother, Cruz, he demanded, "Eva, how could you cheat on Jacob at a time like this, when we are looking forward to having you both become married?" "Cruz, I was set up. I didn't mean to cheat on Jacob. Believe me, Layla set me up." My older brother sighed. "I warned you to stay away from Layla. That girl is a snitch and you didn't listen to me. She is not from our place, and her parents are richer than ours," Cruz fumed. I sobbed. "I am sorry. I should have listened to you," I replied. "It's fine. Where are you now? Mum and Dad are angry and they don't want to see you. Jacob is also demanding compensation and saying you never let him touch you, so you didn't do anything for him in the five years you both dated," Cruz said, sighing in frustration. "Cruz, can I come over to your place?" I asked, knowing he'd gotten married. "Sure, but you know Maddison and you don't get along. Don't worry, I will talk to her to understand." Cruz's words brought relief, and I sighed heavily. Layla's betrayal still stung and I couldn't call any of my female friends again. I went back to the road, hailed another cab and went to my older brother's house.EVA'S POVAs I stood aside, preparing to dial Ethan's number, I watched the CEO of Johnson Group, Gabriel Johnson, stride up to meet me."Eva, you look so stunning tonight," CEO Gabriel said, as he wore a black tuxedo and a deep red undershirt. He extended his hand for a handshake, and he took my hand and placed a soft kiss on my knuckles. My heart fluttered, and I wanted to withdraw my hand away from his hold as I recalled that he is a womaniser."What are you doing standing out here?" CEO Gabriel asked me softly as he stood with his bodyguards beside him."Um, I want to call someone," I replied, and he smiled."Alright. Will you be quick about the call, or should I wait for you? I do not mind taking you in as my plus one," he grinned, and I looked over at his men who stood behind him."The call will take me a while. Actually, I want to help my brother with something," I said, as I watched Cruz and Maddison step forward."Oh, Mrs. Brooklyn. You didn't inform me that you are in connec
ETHAN'S POVIn the field, I held the golf stick and struck the ball, aiming for a goal; however, the ball rolled over and didn't fall into the hole."Let me try," Cade said as he stepped forward, took the stick, and struck another ball that the coach had set on the ground for him.As Cade's luck would shine, the ball flew a long distance and rolled into the hole. He scored against me."Yes!" Cade gasped with excitement, and my lips curled in a smile watching him."This deserves some truth. Ethan, tell me," Cade said as he strode to meet me, but I didn't say a word. My lips remained locked, and I looked over at the distance, calculating how to strike the ball."If you miss your target, you are telling me the truth of what's ongoing," Cade pressed, his tone serious. I laughed and held the stick with a firm grip."Deal," I agreed, and Cade's eyes widened."No backing out," Cade said as he stepped aside for me to strike the ball.As the coach set the ball, I held the stick and struck it.
ETHAN'S POV"It's complicated, man. You wouldn't believe that Freya called my mother and reported to her that I was cheating on her," I started to say as I peered at Cade's face. He burst out laughing hard."I wanted to ask you too. What's going on with you, Ethan? Do you check the news at all?" Cade asked, his tone serious."What do you mean?" I asked him, my brows furrowed.Cade's lips curled up in a smile as he brought out his phone. His finger clicked on the screen, and he showed me a photo."Take a look at the gossip news about you. It clearly shows you, Owen's Group CEO, on his knees in front of his secretary, wearing a shoe on her feet. And you are saying that you have an aversion to women? I think you are not being honest with me even though I am your buddy."I snatched Cade's phone and peered at the screen. My jaw dropped because it didn't occur to me that someone had secretly taken a snapshot of me when I was testing the shoes on Eva's feet."These are just photos. They don'
ETHAN'S POVAfter I left my parents' place, I instructed my driver to take me to the golf center, while I pulled my phone to make a call to my best friend."What's up, Cade, how are you doing this weekend?" I asked him, as I listened to his response."I am fine. I wanted to call you now, but I don't know what you're up to. Are you hanging out with your fiancée?" Cade asked, and my brows furrowed."No. I am heading to the golf center. Meet me there," I replied before he agreed."Got it." The rest of the call ended, and I reclined in my car seat, my gaze out of the window.Arriving at the golf center in Dominic City, where Cade and I hung out to catch up on our lives, I watched the car pull to a halt and I climbed out.A man in black welcomed me, as he was a security guard, while I responded to his greetings before striding to the field to take a look at the vast surrounding. The open field, the thick forest far ahead, the high mountains, and the birds chirping around.A few elderly men
EVA:"Eva, what took you so long to purchase a watch for Ethan's sister?" Elora asked after I arrived at the car and unlocked the front passenger door. I plopped into the front seat and apologized, "I am sorry. I just thought to purchase something more expensive." I blushed; my sister shook her head and ignited the car."I get it. For your boss's sister, you have to give her something worth it. Otherwise, I am sure she will reject it," Elora said as she drove out of the parking lot. She headed for the Owen's Hotel."Yeah," I replied with a smile. My gaze remained outside the window as I avoided looking at Elora's face. My heart was thumping loudly in my chest as I pondered if Ethan would misinterpret my gift for his sister.I kept looking outside the car as my phone vibrated. My heart raced, thinking it was Ethan calling me, but a wave of disappointment crashed down on me when I saw that it was Jacob. With Elora in the car, I drew a deep breath and answered his call."Hello, Jacob."I
EVA:After Elora went into her room, Mom looked at me adoringly and asked, "Eva, are you sure that there's nothing ongoing between you and your boss?"Meeting her gaze, I replied, "Nothing.""Mm. Alright. You should stay safe at the birthday party, and it's better that you stay close to Elora to avoid stories that touch the heart," Mom advised me as she made her way to the corridor."Got it, Mom," I replied as I moved back to perch on the black couch in the living room while waiting for my sister to finish changing her clothes. How could Ethan give me a bag and shoes worth 10 million? What game is he playing? I had tried to pay him the money I owed him, but he refused.Did he truly want to keep me as his mistress? But he is engaged.I sighed while checking my last conversation with Ethan on my phone. The living room door unlocked, and my dad strode in. His eyes widened in surprise, just as Mom's and Elora's had."Eva, you look stunning. What are you waiting for? You should go to the p
{Freya's POV} Ethan wouldn't take me for a fool. I caught him zoning out when his gaze fell on Elora Brooks, my father's new brand ambassador for Dallas Oil and Gas in Dominic City. I tried to ignore it, but my intuition told me he was into her. I had paid secret spies to keep tabs on Ethan, but s
-Ethan Owen- Arriving at the Owens' luxury five-star hotel, I parked my car, a black G-Wagon, and my sister and Layla got out of the car. As Freya had already said that she would meet us at the hotel. "Alright, brother. Catch you later. Or aren't you coming directly to the clothing launch?" Angeli
-Eva Brooks- "Eva, where are you right now? I'm coming over to the police station to take you home," Mom said, and I was shocked, wondering if I was getting called by a wrong number. But it was my mother's voice and her number too. "Mom, I thought you disowned me, and you and Dad went further to a
ETHAN P.O.V "Good morning, big brother, happy weekend," Angelina's excited voice filled my eardrum. "Morning. How was your night?" I asked, to which she giggled, "Fine." "So what's up, why are you calling me this morning?" I asked her calmly, as she laughed over the phone call, knowing she was my
