登入ELIASGemma's mother sat in the chair opposite mine in my office, silently staring at nothing. Or should I say Katrina?Where she used to have hollow cheeks and sunken eyes, her face was plump and full of life. She was no longer the captive in that room. The potion seemed to have even made her look beautiful.Although she looked like Gemma's mother, I guessed that she was nothing like her. Months or probably years of captivity made Katrina behave like a shell. There was nothing I could say to comfort her. My mother entered the room, ever the force. She sat down on the chair next to Katrina. She jumped in her seat scared."Now, let's get back to business," Madam Margaret said. "Your name is Ronnie. You forgot your memory and for the past few years, you've been living at an orphanage, recovering from an incident."Your daughter is this lady," My mother placed a picture on the table. "But you don't remember her. You're supposed to come across her when you're in the palace. Make sure she
GEMMAI followed the sound to the kitchen. I grabbed the door handle and stopped, scared that if I tried to see her, she would disappear and I wouldn't be able to hear her.Still, I gathered the courage and I unlocked the door. I held onto the door handle for support.I couldn't believe my eyes. After almost ten years, she was right in front of me, singing and doing the dishes. I froze, my hand still holding the handle of the door."Mom?" I said. My throat was tight from unshed tears. "Mom?" I called again. She stopped singing, the dishes in her hands freezing. She didn't turn to look at me. "Gemma?" She called."Mom!" I said, letting go of the door and running towards her. I wrapped my hands around her and pressed my head to her shoulder. "Mom, I missed you."As I let her go and stepped back, she turned. I gasped. Instead of the beautiful face of my mother, I saw the face of a monster. It lunges at me, snarling and snapping its teeth trying to bite me.It managed to wrap Its hands ar
ELIASI looked at my mother, a little confused. "Didn't Gemma say she was an orphan? She said that all her family were killed at night during a massacre." I said to her.My mother cocked her brows at me. "I'm surprised you know that." She was implying something. "You seemed to have picked interest in the slave girl long before she was your mate."I cleared my throat. "I was just being nice." I retorted. "It was nothing like that."Mother snorted. "You would be a fool to fall for your prey." She said. "Gemma's family died that night.""So, how would we get her mother?" I asked."It's very simple. I know a witch who dwindles in dark magic."The suggestion sent a sick feeling into my stomach. I didn't like dealing with witches. They were haybringers and I believed they blurred the lines between good and evil seamlessly."How would they help us get Gemma's mother?" I asked.Madam Margaret shook her head. "We use a fake. Someone who we can control. That's where the witch comes in. She's go
GEMMA"An army of the dead?" George asked, his voice trailing off. It was unthinkable, I knew that."It's the only explanation— the sacrifices. I studied the pictures in the book before coming to meet the Queen. It was on my mind all through." I explained, taking turns to look at the both of them."I noticed that they're not just taking souls. They're exchanging them." I said."So they're making trades with Hades? Is that what you mean?" Nate asked. I nodded.Hades was the ruler of death. The only way for them to be able to bring back someone who had been claimed by Hades was to give him another. It was a trade by barter."That's pure evil," George said. The room had taken on a cold feeling and I knew that everyone was thinking about the implications of what this meant for us."Why do they need an army of the dead? Why not just get new soldiers?" Nate asked.I looked at him. "Think like the ruler you are," I said, not meaning it as an insult. "George is your most capable and useful wo
GEMMAThere was a silence that descended upon the room. Everyone was lost in their thoughts."This doesn't make any sense. The White Wolf has been reincarnated for many years up until now. Why didn't they show up?" Nate asked. "Why now?""Because the White Wolf has never been reincarnated with a link to the royal family," Sandra replied. She folded her hands in front of her. "It's the first time."Sid looked between Sandra and Nate. "The mate bond is the link." She said, bringing everyone's thoughts to existence. All eyes were on me."What do you want to do?" Nate asked. I could taste the tension in the room. They wanted to know if I wanted to break the bond.If Nate rejected me, I would be free from the threat of the Obsidian Wolves.I shrugged. "What else is there to do?" I asked. "We have to find them and take them down.""Besides, who is to say that breaking the bond will stop them from doing what they want?" I asked. "We just have to give them hell."Nate nodded. "I agree." He sa
GEMMAThe librarian glanced at the chest again, mumbling before he turned and left me alone. But, his warnings stuck in my head. Was the knowledge in these books that risky?I crouched and gathered the books out, putting the chest back into its hiding spot and covering it up. There was no need to leave it out and let someone else find out about it.I walked over to the desk and opened the book at the top of the pile. It was mostly in an unknown language. I could read some parts but most of the important detail was surely in this language.I was going to need help. I took the books with me and despite the librarian insisting that I leave them in the library, I took them. This was a matter of life and death.Going over to George's study, I arranged the books on the reading table. Since the first book was in an unknown language. I made a mental note to search for a book translating languages.I wanted to compare them with the ones in these books so I could at least know the language. Sin
