Lori

A dark gleam flashed in Lucas’s eyes. His smirk widened. He threw a twenty-dollar bill on the counter. He guided me out by placing his palm firmly against the small of my back.

The heat from his touch burned straight into my skin through my denim jacket.

His dorm room did not look like a typical college boy's room. There was no mess. It smelled clean, like cedar wood and laundry detergent.

The moment the door clicked closed behind us, his casual look disappeared.

Lucas rushed toward me. His large frame blocked out the hallway light. His hands framed my face. His thumbs wiped away my smudged mascara.

"You are still thinking about whatever made you so angry," Lucas murmured. His dark eyes looked right through me. "It is a guy, isn't it?"

"You are not wrong," I breathed. My heart slammed against my ribs. "But I want to forget. I want to wake up tomorrow with a different thought."

Lucas leaned down. His lips brushed against mine in a slow tease. The touch made me whimper. I pulled him closer and wrapped my arms around his neck. I needed the distraction.

He tasted like whiskey and dark promises. His hands slid to my waist. He lifted me onto the edge of his desk. Suddenly, a wave of panic cut through my anger.

I pushed against his hard chest. "Lucas, wait."

He stopped instantly. His breathing was heavy. His eyes were hooded. "What's wrong?"

"I need to tell you something," I said, biting my lip. "I have never done this before. I am a virgin."

I expected him to pull away. I thought his playboy reputation would kick in and he would ask me to leave.

Instead, his whole mood changed.

The air in the room grew thick. The patient hockey captain disappeared. A dominant energy took his place. It made me shudder. His fingers dug into my skin, tightening his grip on my hips.

"A virgin?" Lucas pushed closer. His thighs parted my legs. A wild hunger flared in his eyes. "Why are you telling me this now, Lori?"

"Is it a problem?" I whispered. He felt huge compared to me.

"No," he growled.

His lips took mine with a feral intensity. The rough kiss stole the breath from my lungs.

"It is not a problem," he muttered. "But it means you are mine tonight. Entirely mine."

An hour of intense sensations followed. I was completely unprepared. Lucas was nothing like Travis. Travis was hesitant and selfish. Lucas was a force of nature. He dictated exactly how I moved beneath him.

It felt like a total surrender. He marked his territory with every touch, leaving me breathless and trembling. He whispered dark, possessive commands that made my blood run hot and cold.

When it was over, the room was silent except for our ragged breathing. Lucas lay beside me with one heavy arm around my waist. He closed his eyes, his chest rising and falling.

I stared at the ceiling. My body ached in new places. My heart pounded a frantic rhythm. The anger that brought me here was gone. It was replaced by a terrifying realization.

Who was this guy?

On campus, Lucas wore a golden boy athlete mask. But the man next to me was unpredictable and intense. He was far too much for me to handle.

I had wanted revenge, but I had jumped into the deep end of a dark ocean.

I carefully lifted Lucas’s heavy arm off my waist. He grunted but did not wake.

My legs felt like jelly and my heart was in my throat as I scrambled off the bed. I gathered my crumpled dress, underwear, and jacket from the floor. Shaking violently, I threw them on. I did not dare use his bathroom to fix my hair.

I grabbed my keys from his nightstand. I took one last look at the sleeping hockey captain. He looked peaceful, but the memory of his wild grip made me shudder.

I quietly unlocked the door, stepped into the empty hallway, and bolted down the stairs into the night.

---

I sneaked into my apartment around three in the morning. I showered and scrubbed Lucas’s cedar scent off my skin until I was raw. Then I collapsed into a restless sleep.

I gave my virginity to a stranger. A notorious playboy. Elena’s ex.

Realizing the truth made me want to hide under the covers forever. I wanted revenge, but I had handed total control to a guy who looked at me like a prize. His heavy hands and rough whispers were fresh in my mind.

"I think she is awake. I heard her groaning."

The door opened and Jessica strode in. She looked entirely too energetic for a Saturday morning.

Ann followed close behind, holding black coffee and ibuprofen.

They both sat on the edge of my bed. Their faces showed a mix of fierce worry and curiosity.

"Drink this," Ann said, handing me the pills and the mug.

I swallowed the medicine gratefully.

"Now, talk," Ann demanded. "Yesterday you ran out like the place was on fire. Then we saw Travis leave your room looking like he’d seen a ghost. Lori... what the hell happened?"

Lucas“One last time,” I gritted out through clenched teeth, forcing the words through my chest as I summoned every remaining shred of energy I had left to lift the heavy iron bar.My arms trembled under the strain, and my core locked tight to protect my lower back as I pushed the weight upward through the final rep. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see my physical therapist watching me like a hawk. She was scrutinizing every single angle of my posture, her sharp eyes tracking the micro movements of my spine as I worked. Standing right behind her, arms crossed over his chest, was my head coach. He was paying attention to my form, watching to see if I would flinch or show any lingering signs of the spine injury that had kept me benched for weeks.“How was that?” I gasped out, dropping the heavy weights onto the rubberized floor with a dull, echoing thud.I wiped a thick layer of sweat from my forehead with the back of my arm, staring at her expectantly. She gave a slight, dismiss

LoriI remained standing entirely frozen in the dimly lit hallway outside Jessica's bedroom door, my fingers hovering inches above the cool handle. My mind spiraled in confusion, contemplating whether I should just throw the door wide open and confront her on the spot. Or simply turn on my heel, walk back to my room, and forget she even existed.“Lor? Are you still there, babe?” Lucas’s voice suddenly rang out through the tiny speaker of my phone, cutting through the suffocating silence of the corridor and distracting me from my spiraling thoughts.I took a fast, shallow breath, pressing the receiver closer to my ear. “Hey, Lu? Please confirm something for me real quick, will you?”“Yeah? What is it, Lor?” he replied without a single second of hesitation, his deep tone laced with effortless affection. “You know I will do absolutely anything for you, babe. Just name it.”“Are you currently answering another call right now w

LoriThe rest of the day passed painfully slowly. I spent nearly an hour on my hands and knees refolding and reorganizing every single delicate fabric that Angel had scattered across the floor. All while my mind wildly wrestled with the agonizing decision of whether to quit both the internship and the fashion competition altogether.I really didn't think I could continue living like this. Not with Jessica turning into my bitter enemy and vowing to frustrate every single area of my life. If only I hadn’t suffered that terrible leg injury months ago during cheerleading, maybe my spot on the squad would still be fine and Jessica wouldn’t be able to act as if she held my entire future career in her hands. The very second dismissal time finally arrived, I let out a heavy breath I didn’t even realize I had been holding. Wanting to avoid any more public humiliation, I quickly snuck out of the building through the quiet back exit.

LoriA new week was supposed to represent a fresh start. But in my shattered world, it felt like nothing more than a continuation of the same endless nightmare. The sudden phone call from the fashion competition panel over the weekend had managed to briefly distract me from my self destructive thoughts, but now that Monday morning had arrived, the paralyzing anxiety was right back in full force.I didn't have any early morning classes scheduled, so I decided to head straight to the fashion house for my internship shift. Truthfully, I would have handed in my resignation and quit the position days ago just to avoid the tension, if not for the fact that I desperately needed the practical hours to score higher points for the final round of the showcase. As I approached the glass front doors of the sleek building, I paused to whisper a silent prayer under my breath. I prayed that Jessica hadn't poisoned her mother’s mind against me yet. Or demanded that my internship placement be revoked

LucasNo matter how many times I was forced to sit on the sidelines, I knew in my gut that I would never, ever get used to being benched. My real home was out there on the ice, gliding through the freezing air with my stick in hand, tracking the black puck as it skidded across the surface.Still, despite the restless agitation clawing at my chest, I was here on the bench to cheer for my boys. Their success was my success. We needed this crucial win to seal our official spot in the state finals, and I was going to support them with everything I had.So, while the rest of my teammates aggressively fought for control, chasing and passing the puck back and forth across the rink, I cheered loudly from the sidelines. I whistled through my teeth when someone made a clean hit and shouted harsh words of encouragement to keep their energy high.I watched intently as Alex expertly tackled the puck away from the opposing team's winger using a swift stick check. A proud smile spread across my face

LoriLater that night, after a quiet dinner and a movie with my mom that I barely managed to focus on, I retreated to my childhood bedroom and dialed Lucas’s phone number. I could no longer hold back the anxious knot in my chest for another second. If he was really going to pull away from me, he owed it to me to say it directly to my face rather than leaving me to drown in my own thoughts. He picked up on the second ring, his voice sounding deep and slightly groggy over the line.“Hey,” I whispered, holding my breath as I waited for his reaction.“Hey…” he replied simply, his tone completely lacking its usual warm, excited energy whenever he heard from me.Damn Jessica. A sharp pang of resentment flared in my chest. I genuinely hoped we could resolve this nightmare soon so I wouldn't be forced to start fighting dirty right back to protect what was mine.“You left the dorm earlier today wi

Lori’s POV My eyes snapped shut. I couldn't tell them about Lucas. Not yet. I couldn't even process it myself."Travis cheated on me," I croaked. My voice sounded raw, completely ruined. Lori’s POV Without waiting to see what he is about to do next, I took my car keys and ran out of the room. I rushed past Jessica and Ann in the hallway. Their worried voices shouted my name. However, I ignored them and plunged out of the apartment and into the cold night air. I knew how reck
