Lyra’s POV

Staring at the ceiling while I laid on my back, Alpha Cormac’s sudden change of attitude baffles me and I can't help but think about what brought about the changes.

His response to my question before he left lingered in my head. It sounded so sweet and assuring with a hint of sincerity.

I was his mate, but I didn't expect him to welcome me with open arms considering the circumstances of how I came into his pack and what went down afterwards.

Was all the threats just a facade to make me cower at his feet?

I knew he had his doubts about my intentions and just an Alpha doing his duties for the safety of his pack.

It was in the early afternoon when a soft knock sounded at my door, pulling me out of my thoughts. I turned toward the sound, expecting Matilda or perhaps Alpha Cormac himself, but instead, a young woman stepped in, balancing a tray with a covered dish with one of her hands as she pushed the door wide open with the other hand.

I swung my legs over the side of th

Lyra’s POV “No,” I snapped. After I snapped at her, she disappeared to the back of my head and left me to my meal. Thinking that was all. Immediately I was done, I leaned back against the chair when I felt her stirring in my head again, but she said nothing. I sat in the chair idle and not knowing what to do next, aside from sleeping or sitting. This was the part I wished I was back to Frostbite, where I was always busy working, running errands or helping Calantha out. I never had friends at Frostbite. Anyone I tried to make friends with became an enemy of Kaida. Even while others went to school, I couldn’t. At first, I did, but when Kaida was older, bullying me and making my classmates turn against me, I decided I was done with school. She made life unbearable for me since her mother kept feeding her the idea of Father making me Alpha since I was the first child. Kaida and Luna Ophelia have been trying all possible means to get rid of me. I won’t be surprised if it was Luna Ophe

Alpha Cormac’s POV For some moments I didn't answer the question. I knew what the answer was but I doubt she would want to hear that. Then I stepped closer, her warm eyes meeting mine. “Because you’re my mate, Lyra,” I said softly, holding her hand. “And because you deserve it.” Before she could respond, I turned and left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts and a chance to escape from more questions she could be dying to ask. As I left Lyra’s room, a storm of conflicting emotions churned within me. The confident, calculated attitude I always wore as Alpha felt shaky at this point. I was used to managing power plays, controlling situations, and forcing outcomes that worked in my favor. But this… this delicate entanglement with Lyra was different entirely. Her question echoed in my mind once again.“Why are you being nicer?”It wasn’t that I’d suddenly turned soft. I needed her, plain and simple. And she wasn’t just some stray wolf who wandered into my territory. She was

Lyra’s POV My breath hitched when I saw Alpha Cormac step inside. His presence filled the room instantly, commanding attention even in silence. I sat up straighter on the bed, unsure of what to expect and why he was here. “What are you doing here?” I blurted out in shock.Alpha Cormac’s expression remained unreadable as he stepped closer, his dark eyes meeting mine with an intensity that made my pulse quicken, but he had a warm look. His intoxicating smell filled the air, making my hormones stirred up. He didn’t answer my question right away. Instead, he walked over to the edge of the bed and, to my surprise, sat down beside me. The mattress dipped under his weight, the proximity making it impossible to ignore the pull of the mate bond between us. He turned to face me, his gaze softening and warmer than usual. “Relax, I'm not here to hurt you or do anything you don't like,” he answered.“I wanted to see if you’d made a decision,” he added. I hesitated, my fingers twisting the

Lyra’s POV Alpha Cormac’s words echoed in my mind. I could not think of anything else since I was taken back to the room I was locked up in after the talk in his office yesterday. “We are mates. The Moon Goddess brought us together for a reason,” he added, not waiting for my response to his first question. At first, I thought I had misheard him. The declaration was so unexpected that I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Of all the things he could have said, this was the last thing I imagined. My heart was racing. I could barely manage to respond to him back in his office, stumbling through words about how I thought he would reject me, and I had braced myself for it.I had assumed it would be an easy decision for him. After all, who was I? A nobody. An unwanted daughter with a cruel stepmother from the story I had cooked up. A runaway with no name, no power, and no purpose. Why would an Alpha like him, a man who seemed ruthless and calculated, want anything to do with me? All o

Lyra’s POV “Tell me what you want.” Alpha Cormac’s words hung in the air like a storm cloud, heavy and threatening to burst. I sat frozen in my chair, trying to understand the sudden shift in his behavior towards me. Since have been brought to this pack, he had been nothing but cold and calculating. Threatening to torture me, locking me away like a criminal. And now, here he was, sitting across from me, his piercing gaze softening just enough to make me question whether this was the same man I met days back. What brought about the change?“It could be the mate bond.” Nyx’s voice echoed in my head.Being so close to him and sitting across, I couldn't help but feel an intense urge to be closer. I couldn't give in to the mate bond. My heart pounded in my chest. I could smell his scent and it was driving both I and Nyx crazy.“Could I trust him?” I asked Nyx“What is the worst thing that could happen?” She answered me.“Taking me back to my pack,” I snapped back at Nyx in my head, “You
