Lyra’s POV

I smelled him before he even came in, I knew he was close by. That scent came first, sandalwood and pine then came the lingering sulfur that distorts the initial smell. It slipped beneath the door and wrapped around my senses before the handle even turned at all.

My heart jumped when I sensed there was a high chance he was coming here. Nyx stirred immediately the scent slipped into the room.

“He’s here,” Nyx whispered. “He's headed here.”

I already knew that.

For days I had imagine

Lyra’s POVI jerked awake to the sound of the door flying open, my breath caught in my throat in the little cot that was barely my length. Matilda stood at the entrance and whispered two words. "Follow me." She led me back to the same route that led to my old room.Just like that I was back to my room. I wondered what had caused the change. I sat on the edge of the bed and stared at the wall until my eyes burned. The days that followed became harder. I had thought that being moved back to the guest wing would mean a return to the status I had held before Eileen's intervention. Restricted movement, yes. Mia bringing meals, yes. But a certain baseline of being left alone.I was wrong. The omegas knew where I had been. Word traveled fast in the working quarters of a packhouse. They had seen me in the laundry hall. They had watched Matilda assign me to Harper's group. And now, seeing me returned to the guest wing with no explanation, they had drawn their own conclusions about what I was

Cormac’s POVThe corridors were completely silent when I left my office. It was late.Far later than I had intended to remain awake, but sleep had become an increasingly useless luxury. Too many problems were piling up at once, and every solution seemed to create another complication. The business situation was still unstable. The Elders council was waiting. Eileen had become increasingly unpredictable even though have somehow been able to clip her wings from flying too high. And Lyra…I stopped outside her door. I didn’t know how I got there. I was heading to my room and too occupied with my thoughts. For a moment, I simply stood there, listening. I opened the door. The room was empty. Her smell was faint like she had been gone for a while. A strange uneasiness settled in my chest. I stepped farther inside.“Lyra?” I turned sharply and walked back into the hallway. Mia was in the corridor, carrying a folded set of sheets. She saw my face in her tracks."Where is she?" I demanded.

  • Claimed By The Lycan King   41. Rumors and Laundry

Lyra’s POVThe place reeked of sweat and despair, thick with the crushed spirits of Omegas who had been ground down by their own lives. It was nothing like the room and the rest of the wings I’ve been to in the packhouse. The atmosphere was entirely different. “This will be your room,” she gestured at me to follow her once more as she spoke. I followed her, trying to look steadier than I felt, my cheek still carrying the pain of Eileen's slap. The laundry hall was large and almost stifling. Women worked in pairs and threes, their sleeves rolled to their elbows. A few glanced at me. Most did not.Matilda stopped near the far end of the hall and turned to face me.“You will be joining the omegas on laundry duty today," she said..I looked at the stacked clothes waiting to be sorted. "Okay," I said, already resigned to fate. Back to being treated like a slave I once was.Matilda studied me for a moment with that same measuring look she always gave, like she was filing something away.

Lyra’s POVBack to being confined once more. Just when I thought I was free. Alpha Cormac had asked the guards to be posted outside my door. This felt different compared to before. I sat on the edge of the bed and stared at the window. Outside, the omegas were spreading clothes on the line. A small figure caught my attention. She watched the rest of the omegas shattering from the corner of eyes. She reminds me of myself back at the Frostbite pack. I took a deep breath in and tried to focus on the present. I have to talk to Alpha Cormac to let me go. Is there really a way out of here? Has my father figured out I'm in this pack? I shook my head in an attempt to shake off the thought in my head. My father is the least person I want to rescue me. I can't count on him.A shiver ran down my spine. I had to think clearly without the fog of fear of trepidation clouding everything. I can tell Cormac was not a man who makes idle declarations but there has to be a way to reason with him to le

Lyra’s POVMy head felt foggy all of a sudden. I closed my eyes and saw fireworks bouncing around. I rubbed my temple hard to bring me back to the present. I slowly enunciate the words in my head just to be certain that I didn’t misheard him. HAS. A. CHOSEN. LUNAThe words settled in my head like ashes from a burning bush. He had said it plainly while watching me with those dark eyes. “Her name is Eileen and she is nothing like you.” He added, like it would calm the turmoil roaring in my head. Eileen. The name sat in my chest like a stone."You have a Luna," I said at last, my voice barely above a whisper. It wasn't a question. It was the only thing I could say. The only thing that made sense to repeat, because nothing else in this moment did.Cormac leaned back now completely unbothered like he could finally breathe freely since he dropped the bomb. He had the composure of someone who had rehearsed this conversation a hundred times and found it beneath him."I do," he said. The fi

Lyra’s POVI sat across from him, my fingers lightly gripping the edge of the table as I tried to steady myself. His gaze on my cleavages, churning like molten gold. I swallowed hard and tried to take in my environment instead. Everything looked perfect. The quietness of the space screamed intimacy and perfection but I was beginning to realize it doesn't seem right.Cormac leaned back slightly in his chair, studying me, just clearly written all over his face. I looked down and I couldn't help but wonder if the gown was too revealing. He noticed me squirm due to uneasiness.“What do you think?” he asked, trying to lighten the mood. I blinked, caught off guard with his question. “About…?”“The setting.”My eyes drifted around again like I hadn't taken in the carefully arranged flowers, the warm glow of the lights and the elegant table between us.“It’s…” I hesitated, searching for the right words. “It’s beautiful.”He tilted his head slightly. “Do I sense a but?”I exhaled softly. “It
