{Naomi's POV}

"So you're telling me you'll just walk into the Vitale mansion and walk out with fifty-million-dollar cufflinks like it's the easiest thing to do?" Chloe, my best friend asked, her voice faltering in fear.

I turned to face her, still holding onto the red lipstick in my hand. "Yes. It’s not like I have any other choice." I turned to face the mirror and brushed the lipstick on my lips, staring at my reflection, my hand slightly shaking—betraying the fear I was trying so hard to hide.

"You have a choice that won’t cost you your life," Chloe exclaimed as she stood up from the chair, walking toward me. "You can get a job and use the money to pay for your mom's hospital bill."

I turned to look at Chloe, wondering where she got that idea from, but I knew she was reacting out of fear, and that’s not what I needed at the moment.

"Jeez, Chloe. You're acting like you're the one going to do it," I mumbled with an eye roll. "And which job in New York would offer me thirty million dollars in a day to pay for my mom’s surgery bill?"

I turned to face her and she lowered her gaze.

"You're right. But if anything happens to you, I don’t know if I’ll be able to survive the guilt of letting you do something as stupid as stealing."

I sighed, letting the weight of fear off my chest as I placed my hand on her shoulder. "Calm down, Chloe. Nothing bad is going to happen to me, aside from the fact that I’ll get the cufflinks, sell them to Venta Andres as we’ve planned, pay for my mom’s surgery, and keep the rest for her upkeep."

"I’m scared, Naomi," Chloe mumbled. "That cufflink belongs to the Vitale Empire, and it's in possession of Enzo. That guy is mysterious, and the last time someone got close to the cufflinks… that was the last I saw of her."

I grabbed the expensive cashmere sweater I borrowed from the boutique Chloe's friend owns.

"Are you saying he killed her or something?" I asked, staring at my reflection in the mirror.

When I got no response from Chloe, I turned in her direction. My heart raced, but I refused to show it. The worst thing that could happen to me right now wasn’t getting caught by Enzo, it was losing my mother, the only person I had left, when I could at least try to save her.

Chloe looked at me with so much sadness.

"No one knew what happened to her."

"Jeez, you’re scaring me, Chloe." I bit my lip and walked over to pick up my purse from the bed.

"Because I don’t want you to do it," she said. I rolled my eyes and started making my way to the door. She followed closely behind and stopped when we got to the car.

A man dressed in a black suit stood waiting. He smiled and waved at Chloe when he saw her, giving off the hint that she had helped all the way. She talked to her friend to lend me a dress, and also persuaded her friend’s husband to take me to the mansion in grand style for the Vitale party so I could blend in, and even snuck my name onto the guest list. But now, at the dying moment, she was getting too scared.

The man opened the car for me, and I got in. I blew Chloe a kiss before he closed the door. Watching her stare at the car in horror with her hand wrapped over her chest, I rested my back on the seat and prayed to whatever I believed in that everything tonight turn out right.

Just like Chloe had described the Vitale mansion, it was massive and majestic. Tall, royalty-crafted with marble pillars and golden fixtures. A red carpet stretched across the entrance, and rich people, men in tuxedos and women in glittering dresses, walked around in a glamour of wealth.

The moment the heels I had on touched the concrete floor of the parking space, that’s when the height of everything hit me. My heart pounded in my chest. I took a deep breath to calm myself, waved to the driver, and started walking into the mansion. I walked in and gave my name to the man at the entrance. He nodded and stepped aside to let me pass.

With my heart still beating rapidly, I made my way to grab a drink and scanned the environment for the hallway Chloe had told me about. Taking a sip of the cocktail, I tried to recall the details. The study was straight down the hallway, then up the stairs, and a little further up again. Once I saw a brown double door with golden knobs, that would be the place.

I took another sip and looked around once more to ensure no one was staring before slipping away toward the hallway. My heart eased a little as I climbed the stairs, seeing that no one was around. With just the sound of my heels clicking against the stairs, I smiled, though my hands were shaking. I kept walking until I saw the golden knob. I looked around hastily before grabbing it.

I pushed the door open. It creaked softly, revealing the lavish interior of the study, dressed in rich brown and black tones. I stepped inside, remembering Chloe had said the cufflinks were in the lower drawer of the desk, inside a brown box with a security code—579.

I had Chloe to thank for being such an observant friend and for staying loyal as a good maid at the Vitale mansion for years. I pulled out the box carefully and stared at it, smiling. I looked around to see if there was anyone, or anything, that could give away my identity, but there was nothing.

Pressing the passcode, I stared down at the rare cufflinks, one of the most expensive in New York, glistening in gold under the chandelier light. I picked it up from the box, slid it into my purse, and closed the box exactly as I found it.

Straightening up and walking carefully out of the study, I took a few steps down the hallway. I looked back and around one more time. Just as I turned to face forward again, my body collided with someone.

{Naomi's POV}The silence in the room drowned me as I sat on the bed, staring into nothing. My head kept replaying the kiss at the altar over and over, the way Enzo stared at me, the way his hand wrapped around my waist, his lips brushing against mine.My skin crawled with the memory, and I lifted my fingers to my lips. I didn’t know why I was feeling this way. So many things I’d never experienced before. My first kiss... the feeling it brought with it.I shook my head and let out a raspy breath, reaching up to pull the pin from my hair, letting it fall around my shoulders. I stood from the bed and slipped out of the wedding dress, making my way to the bathroom. Once inside, I turned on the shower and let the warm water run down from my head to my feet. I stayed there for a while. When I finally stepped out, I walked over to the closet, hoping I’d find something, anything, that would fit. But to my surprise, it was already stocked with clothes my size. I blinked, staring hard at the

{Enzo POV}My eyes stayed on Naomi as she moved slightly under my gaze. I didn’t know why she quivered whenever I looked at her. It almost made me feel like a monster, that I wasn’t.I ran my eyes over her again before signaling for the priest to begin the wedding vows. The priest cleared his throat, voice echoing through the hall. My gaze didn’t leave Naomi even once while he read from the book in his hand. My focus was locked on her, making sure she wouldn’t do something stupid while everyone was watching. Then the priest turned to me. “Do you, Enzo Vitale, take Naomi Ray as your lawfully wedded wife?”“I do,” I muttered, my eyes still pinned on her. I had to keep my gaze there. One wrong move and this entire thing would blow up.It was her turn and the looked towards her direction, his voice filled the room once again. “Miss Ray, do you take Enzo Vitale as your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sic

{Naomi POV} A slight knock on the door woke me out of sleep. I turned, groaning softly as I gripped the nearest pillow and clutched it close. The softness made me sink back into it, my eyes still closed, already drifting back to sleep. But then came the creaking sound of the door opening, followed by footsteps. I groaned louder this time, forcing my eyes open as I sat up, glaring at whoever dared to ruin my peace. “What’s with the noise? Can’t I at least enjoy my sleep? Must you make everything difficult, Enzo?” I muttered, rubbing at my eyes. My gaze landed on a young lady dressed in a maid uniform. She was holding a box big enough to size me if I got squashed in. Behind her stood another lady, dressed in a black and white corporate outfit, arms folded, watching me with a serious face. “I’m sorry, ma’am,” the maid said quickly. “Mr. Vitale asked that we get you ready for the wedding on time.” “Wedding?” I repeated, confused for a second. Then it hit me, like someone had sl

{Naomi POV}“Hm, uh...” I stammered, trying to speak, but my words tumbled out in pure gibberish. I stepped back from Enzo, my breath shaky. “I... I need to see my mom.”Enzo stared at me like he was calculating the easiest route to kill me. His expression was flat, dangerous. He didn’t offer a single word, and every time our eyes met, I felt like disappearing right there, melting into the floor.“I had to sneak out,” I muttered under my breath, my gaze falling to his fists, balled up tight, his knuckles slightly pale from the force. “You wouldn’t let me see her if I asked.”“I thought I gave you an instruction,” he growled, voice sharp like broken glass. “Do not leave the room!”I opened my mouth, heart in my throat, but before I could explain, his hand shot out and grabbed mine. His grip was rough, his skin cold against mine. He pulled me behind him like I wasn’t even there, like I was just something attached to his hand. The spot where he held me burned, I winced but didn’t struggl

{Naomi POV}Enzo walked up slowly, his presence heavy like a storm cloud rolling in. The moment he reached me, he slid his hand around my waist, pulling me flush against him. My skin crawled under his touch.Enzo’s voice was harsh as he looked at the guy. “Don’t you dare threaten my fiancée, Brian!”Brian. I blinked up, glancing between them.Brian’s eyes narrowed, but he scoffed in response. “Your fiancée,” he repeated, looking away briefly before meeting Enzo’s gaze again. “How come I’ve never seen her before? Why haven’t you introduced her until now?” His lip curled like he’d just tasted something bitter. “So desperate for the inheritance, huh, Enzo? You probably hired a cheap slut to play wife.”My jaw clenched, heat rushing up my neck in anger. But before I could say anything, Enzo’s grip tightened slightly, his fingers digging into my side.“Mind your words, Brian or I might remind you of your place,” he said coldly.Brian’s eyes shifted to me, his angry stare sharp, but Enzo di

{Naomi POV}Enzo’s hand loosened around my wrist as we kept walking further up the stairs, but it didn’t ease my nerves one bit. My skin still tingled where he’d been holding me, and not in a good way. I looked over at him, biting the inside of my cheek. Why do I feel like this is going to be my life now? Him dragging me around in front of guests like some trophy wife, pretending this is all normal.I shifted my hand, trying to pull it free from his grip, but the moment I moved, his fingers tightened again like steel wrapped in skin. His head snapped toward me, eyes cold and sharp. “What are you trying to do? Have you forgotten our terms and conditions so soon?”My heart jumped. I swallowed hard, heat rushing up my neck like a steam train about to blow. “Terms and conditions?” I asked quietly, my eyes flicking around as we stepped into a quieter hallway away from all the whispers and stares. “If this is really just a marriage contract, then we don’t have to hold hands when no one’s wa
