LOGIN"You're ours to love, cherish and fuck. " Vespa wanted two things, an escape from her harsh reality, and a man to love her unconditionally. What happens when her answer comes as three brothers
View MoreMy best friend and I loved ridiculous pranks, but this time I pushed it further than usual.
I planned to propose to my boyfriend at the airport.
It was a regular Friday afternoon, our last class finally over. I’d just told Ria my plan. I was going to propose to Donovan the moment he walked out of the arrival gate.
The dorm room air smelled of hairspray. I turned to the mirror and adjusted my ash-blond pixie cut with a plastic comb.
"Are you insane, Vespa?" Ria sat on the edge of her bed. "Women do not fucking propose to men. That is not the way the world works."
I let out a short laugh. I reached into my purse to feel the velvet texture of the ring box. "Don't jinx it. I have dropped hints about marriage for months. I want to start my life young. Donovan understands that."
Ria stood up. She paced the small gap between our desks. "You are twenty-one years old. Why would you marry a werewolf? Why would you want his children? That is bestiality."
The absurdity hit me. I laughed until my ribs ached.
"Donovan is human most of the time," I said. I stood up and nudged her shoulder. "In the end, we are all just animals trying to survive. You need to experience getting fucked by a werewolf. Normal men feel like broken appliances after that. I bet you have not had decent sex since—"
"Vespa." Ria straightened her spine. She pointed a finger at my face. "Stop talking right now."
I grabbed my purse and headed for the door. "I will set you up with one of Donovan’s friends. You deserve a life-altering orgasm."
Ria groaned. She grabbed her keys and followed me into the hallway. She walked like a prisoner toward a scaffold. She muttered about my terrible choices the whole way to the parking lot.
The airport terminal hummed with the sound of rolling luggage wheels and distant intercom voices. Groups of travelers moved in thick waves. The scent of roasted coffee and jet fuel hung in the air. We stood near the arrival gate for Flight 402.
Donovan and I had met a year ago outside the journalism building. He had been a stranger with a paper map. I ran into him while checking my watch. My coffee had soaked his shirt. He had smiled at the mess.
When the gate doors slid open, I saw him. He carried a leather duffel bag. I moved through the crowd. My heart pounded faster as I reached into my bag and felt the ring box.
He stopped ten feet away.
I dropped to one knee on the hard linoleum.
"Vespa," he said. He did not move. "What are you doing?"
I pulled the silver ring from the velvet slit. I held it up. The airport lights caught the metal. Travelers slowed their pace. A circle formed around us. I felt the heat of a dozen cameras pointed our way. This had started as a prank in my head, but the adrenaline made it feel real.
"Donovan, my love, will you marry me?"
I heard the faint click of Ria’s phone camera behind me.
Donovan did not smile. His skin went pale. He looked at the strangers watching us. His eyes darted toward the exits.
"Is this a joke, Vespa?" His voice was low. "Because if it is, it is not funny."
I forced a grin. I held the ring higher. My arm began to shake. "Of course it is not a joke. What are you going to do? Reject me in front of all these people?"
Ria lowered her phone. She stepped closer to me. Her face was tight.
Donovan’s gaze shifted. He looked past my shoulder. His expression crumbled into horror.
I turned my head.
A woman with ginger hair moved toward us. She wore a yellow sundress that swayed with her quick steps. Her blue eyes stayed fixed on Donovan. She reached him and slid her arm through his.
"What is going on here, baby?" she asked.
I stayed on the floor. My brain refused to process the image. She looked down at me. Her lip curled back.
"And who is this sad little stray kneeling on the floor?" she asked.
Donovan looked at the ceiling. He scratched the back of his neck. "She is just some girl from college. She is obsessed with me. Nobody important."
The words felt like a physical blow to my chest.
The woman stepped closer. She looked me in the eye. "Hi, meatbag. I am Nebula. I am Donovan’s fiancée."
She rested her palm against her stomach. The fabric of the yellow dress stretched over a slight curve. "And the mother of his baby."
Whispers broke out in the crowd.
"So if you could take your little performance somewhere else, that would be great. You are making a scene."
Ria grabbed my elbow. She tried to lift me. "Vespa. Come on. Let us go."
I did not move. My knees felt glued to the floor.
"Vespa, I am sorry," Donovan said. He adjusted the strap of his bag. "But you were out of your mind pulling something like this."
He turned his back. He walked away with Nebula toward the baggage claim. He did not look back once.
Ria tugged my arm again. "We need to leave."
I pushed my palms against the cold floor. I tried to stand, but my muscles felt like water. The colors of the terminal began to bleed together.
"Vespa, please," Ria whispered.
I tried to push up one more time.
Three tall men stepped through the circle of onlookers. They were broad-shouldered and moved with synchronized intent. People stepped back to clear a path. The men did not look at the crowd. They stared directly at me.
The roar of the airport faded into a dull hum. My vision blurred. I felt my body tilt forward.
Thick, strong arms caught me before my face hit the tile. The world went black.
Chapter FiftyAthenaFour months had passed, and the academy graduation day had finally arrived. It was a bright and beautiful morning, and students, parents, and teachers gathered to celebrate this milestone. My dad and mom were there with my sister. Uncle Zika and their wives were also present. I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting my dress. I had settled for a simple blue gown that had a long slit. Mia helped me with my hair and makeup, ensuring perfect detail. Oh, and did I mention that Cameron was still alive, and Mia was engaged to her boyfriend Sean? She wore an off-the-shoulder dress to flaunt her mark with pride. I tried not to look at it because I always became jealous whenever I did. Mom and Dad beamed with pride, taking photos of me and Caleb. Cameron's dad, King Marcos, had also arrived, and when I curtsied respectfully, he smiled warmly at me and hugged me. His mom still had not been found, and some people speculated that she might have killed herself. Cameron ofte
AthenaSex with Cameron was beautiful. I never knew it could get so addicting, and I always thought the act was overhyped until I experienced it. The more the weeks passed, the more I couldn’t get enough of him. He had complained about condoms, saying that it wasn’t like the real thing, but I would always scream at him to stop being stupid and that I wouldn’t be responsible for his death. We kept the news from our parents. Cameron’s mom had disappeared and was nowhere to be found. Cameron pretended to be calm the time we bumped into King Thor, but when he was closing off, he landed a punch on the king's jaw that I heard crack. He got a few bruises from the king’s bodyguards, but I was proud of him. The bastard deserved to be manhandled.Despite everything, I needed validation that I was doing the right thing. I couldn’t tell my mom because she would tell my dad, so the only person I could confide in was my grandmother. One of the weekends, I took a train to her house, which was close
Cameron's POVI'd never been on the verge of tears in years. It was taboo for boys to show emotion. Lately, life has been unfair to me, and realizing that nothing could ever be okay again has made me feel like a failure. I had always thought my life was great and better than most. Now, it was clear that that was just a delusion. The fact that my parents were on the brink of divorce because my mom fucked that bastard, Thor, made my blood boil. This roller coaster left my body drained. I didn't care how stupid I looked in tears; the feelings overwhelmed me. When the first wave of grief subsided, I finally looked at Athena, who was also in tears. She cupped my chin and kissed my forehead. “Why? Athena. Why does it have to be me? First, it's our bond and the pain of knowing you and I can never be together. Now, this?”“I'm sorry,” her mouth trembled as tears streamed down her face. “It isn't right. I wish I could fix it.”She wrapped her arms around me tightly, and I held her back whil
AthenaA crease appeared on Cameron's forehead, and he looked pinched and unhappy from my rejection. I moved my hand frequently, trying to distract myself, and thought he would understand as usual, but he seemed too defensive."It's just a dance, Athena. Even strangers dance. Things aren't that bad; please don't push it," I said, remaining calm. Cameron grinned at me, and I didn't understand why he was so stubborn."Fine then, I'm not going to ruin the fun. I hope you wouldn't mind if I danced with another girl.""Break a leg."He looked like I had just slapped him in the face, surprised by my response, but I needed to protect him from myself, even if it hurt. He turned around and left, and soon, he was dancing with a popular girl from school. Watching them felt too painful. I skipped to the kitchen and poured myself a glass of juice to distract myself.I noticed someone at the door and thought it was Cameron, but it was my cousin Alex. He smiled a little too broadly, and there was an
Cameron My gaze never left Athena. She was too startled by my bold declaration, and even though I was more uncertain than ever about what I was doing, and my dad was caught off guard by my words, I couldn’t help it. A part of me knew I was digging my grave, and I liked life too much to lose it. But
CameronIf anyone had ever told me that this revelation would break the bond I shared with Athena, I would have never believed them because Athena seemed like everything good in my world, all in one package. I devoted myself to her and desired to share everything with her—my body, mind, and soul. I g
AthenaThe next few days were a blur of sorrow and nothingness. I struggled to remain alive and succumbed to the sadness that consumed me. I hated myself. I wished my life was over. There was nothing positive to look out for in this bleakness. My parents were concerned, but I chose isolation, finding
AthenaThe only feeling I could register was being mastered and conquered. I felt like a weather-beaten roof that had crumbled and collapsed. My heart was bleeding, and my fears were strangling me. I couldn't even bear to look at Cameron. His back was against the wall, and his eyes were fixed on some
