The academy was even more overwhelming up close than it had appeared from the carriage. Towering buildings of gleaming white stone stretched toward the sky, connected by wide stone pathways lined with ancient trees. Massive training arenas could be seen in the distance, and students from every kingdom moved through the grounds in excited clusters. The air hummed with power wolf auras of varying strengths mingling together in a way that made my skin prickle.

I had barely taken three steps past the main gates when a senior student shoved me roughly aside.

“Out of the way, newbie,” he snapped.

My worn suitcase burst open on impact, spilling everything across the stone pathway. Clothes, a few precious books, and the wrapped pastries Elena had secretly packed scattered everywhere. Heat flooded my face as dozens of students stopped to stare. Laughter rippled through the crowd.

“Look at her. Breathtaking on the outside, but probably too weak to survive here.”

“Another noble who thinks beauty is enough? Pathetic.”

Embarrassment burned through me, but I refused to cry but ot in front of all these strangers. I knelt down and began gathering my belongings alone, biting the inside of my cheek to keep my hands steady. Just as I reached for the last fallen book, another hand picked it up first. I looked up slowly and found myself staring into piercing emerald green eyes. Kael Draven. The Crown Prince of the Shadow Kingdom stood there, tall and intimidating, his jet-black hair framing a face carved from ice.

He said nothing as he handed the book back to me. His gaze lingered far longer than necessary, studying me with an intensity that made my pulse quicken.

Before I could even manage a thank you, another figure sauntered over. Adrian Valerius plucked one of the pastries from the fallen basket, took a big bite, and grinned brightly.

“These are surprisingly delicious,” he declared, sapphire eyes sparkling with mischief. Golden blond hair caught the sunlight.

I glared at him and snatched the basket away. “Arrogant thief,” I muttered before I could stop myself.

Rowan Ashford arrived moments later, moving with calm precision. His dark brown eyes observed the scene quietly. “Stealing from strangers isn’t exactly proper royal behavior, Adrian,” he said, though the faint amusement in his voice betrayed him.

The entire courtyard fell into stunned silence. Never before had the three Alpha heirs been seen standing together around the same girl especially one who had just openly scolded one of them. Female students nearby glared at me with open hostility. Boys watched in disbelief, murmuring among themselves.

Adrian laughed, clearly delighted by my reaction. “I like her fire. I’m Adrian Valerius, by the way.”

“I already know who you are,” I interrupted, brushing dirt off one of my books. “The entire academy won’t stop talking about the three of you. I don’t understand why everyone acts as though you’re gods. You’re just three overly serious princes with oversized egos.”

Adrian burst into loud laughter. Rowan hid a smile behind a polite cough. Even Kael raised a single dark eyebrow, his expression otherwise unreadable. Without another word, he turned and walked away. The other two followed after a moment, leaving me standing there with my heart racing and the weight of hundreds of stares on my back. The gossip had already begun.

Later that afternoon, the grand entrance ceremony took place in the massive central hall. The Headmaster, an imposing older Alpha with silver-streaked hair, welcomed us all.

“Here at the Royal Werewolf Academy,” he boomed, “we value strength above status. Every student will undergo a wolf aura assessment before being assigned to dormitories and training classes.”

One by one, students stepped onto the raised platform and placed their hands on a large glowing crystal. Bright lights and powerful auras erupted from most of them, earning thunderous applause. Isabella went early, her transformation flawless and dazzling. She shot me a smug look as she stepped down to cheers. When my name was finally called, the hall grew quieter. I walked up to the platform on unsteady legs and placed my trembling hand on the crystal. Nothing happened. The stone remained completely dark and lifeless.

Laughter erupted immediately. Whispers of “wolfless” spread like wildfire through the hall. Isabella smirked from the front row, clearly delighted that I had humiliated myself before the entire academy on day one.

I kept my head high as I stepped down from the platform, but someone deliberately stuck out a foot in my path. I stumbled forward, the ground rushing up to meet me.

A strong arm caught me around the waist just before I hit the floor. For one breathless second, I was pulled against a solid chest, inches away from Kael Draven’s unreadable face. His emerald eyes locked onto mine. An unfamiliar warmth raced through both of us like moonlight meeting shadow. Then he released me as quickly as he had caught me, stepping back as though nothing had happened.

Flustered, I brushed myself off. “Thank you,” I said quietly. Then, under my breath, I added, “You could at least smile once in your life.”

Kael heard every word. His expression didn’t change, but Adrian, standing nearby, struggled to suppress his laughter. Rowan watched the entire interaction with growing curiosity, his dark eyes thoughtful. I hurried away from the hall as quickly as possible, cheeks burning. That evening, I finally settled into my assigned dormitory room. It was simple but clean a far cry from the maid quarters back home. I sank onto the edge of the bed, relieved that the exhausting first day was finally over. As I began unpacking my few belongings, the silver pendant Elder Rosalind had given me slipped out from beneath my shirt. For a brief moment, it glowed with a soft, inner light before returning to normal.

I stared at it, fingers tracing the moon phases. What secrets were you trying to tell me, Grandmother?.I didn’t have answers yet, but for the first time since arriving, a small smile tugged at my lips. Tomorrow would bring new challenges. Three infuriating princes. Jealous students. And whatever mysterious force had stirred inside me during training back home. But I was here and I had made it. And I wasn’t going to let anyone prince or bully take that away from me.

The next afternoon, Emma and I headed to the academy courtyard after classes, hoping to enjoy the fresh air before dinner. The space was packed with students talking in small groups, practicing light sparring near the edges, and relaxing around the large stone fountain that stood in the centre. Water sparkled in the sunlight, and for a brief moment I almost believed I might actually have one peaceful afternoon. That hope lasted less than a minute. A familiar voice called my name across the courtyard. “Seraphina.”Isabella stood near the fountain with Cassandra and several of the academy’s most popular girls. Her smile was sweet enough to look almost genuine. Emma immediately leaned closer, voice low and urgent. “We should leave please. Nothing good ever happens when she smiles like that.” I shook my head. “I’m done running away every time she decides to make a scene. If I keep avoiding her, she’ll only grow louder.” Emma bit her lip but stayed beside me as I walked over. I

A few days after the practical lesson, academy life began settling into something that almost resembled a routine. Emma and I spent most of our mornings attending lectures, taking notes, and trying to ignore the lingering stares that still followed me through the corridors. When the midday bell rang, we escaped to the canteen and claimed the quietest table we could find near the far windows, hoping for at least one peaceful meal. Unfortunately, peace never seemed to last. Emma was halfway through a quiet comment about the next history assignment when her eyes suddenly widened. She leaned closer and whispered, “Don’t turn around… but something just changed.”I didn’t need to turn. The shift in the room was impossible to miss. Dozens of students sat straighter. Conversations dropped to near silence. The air itself seemed to tighten. Without looking, I already knew who had entered. The three Alpha Kings. Kael, Rowan, and Adrian walked through the crowded canteen with the effortless c

The next morning, I walked into the academy exactly as I had promised Emma I would. I had barely slept. My eyes felt heavy and the weight of the previous day still clung to my chest, but I refused to lower my head. Students stared and whispered as I passed. The rumours from the day before had spread even further overnight. A group of first-years deliberately moved aside when they saw me coming. One of them called out sarcastically, “Planning to argue with the Shadow Prince again today? Or are you taking a break from challenging people stronger than you?” Another laughed. “Maybe she’ll trip over another log just to get attention.”I kept walking. Inside my head I repeated the same words over and over If I react, they win. Emma walked close beside me, her voice soft and worried. “You don’t have to pretend it doesn’t bother you,” she whispered. “I can see it in your face.” “I’m fine,” I answered, though the words felt thin. “I just need to get through the day.” “I’m staying

The humiliation from the previous day followed me into every corner of the academy. As I walked through the corridors the next morning, students deliberately moved aside, whispering and laughing as I passed. Some exaggeratedly imitated the way I had knelt to gather my ruined books, complete with dramatic gasps and pretended spills. Others called out jokingly as I walked by. “Was challenging the Shadow Prince worth it?” “Maybe next time she’ll ask him for lessons on how to stay on her feet.”Every laugh felt like another wound, sharp and deliberate. I kept my head high and my expression carefully blank, pretending none of it reached me. Inside, each comment settled heavier than the last. Emma stayed close the entire time, her voice soft and repeated. “I’m so sorry. I should have done more yesterday. I should have stood in front of you or pulled you away sooner. I just froze again and. ” I stopped walking and turned to her gently. “Emma, none of it was your fault you tried

The academy corridors were unusually lively after the morning classes. Students gathered in small clusters between lessons, voices overlapping in a constant low buzz of gossip and laughter. Ever since I had openly challenged Kael several times, new rumours had spread through the academy like wildfire. Some whispered that I was desperate for the Alpha Kings’ attention. Others claimed I had forgotten my place entirely and needed to be reminded of it. Every time I walked past a group, conversations stopped just long enough for the laughter to start once I was out of earshot. Emma walked closer than usual, her voice soft with worry. “Maybe we should eat somewhere quieter today… away from everyone. The library courtyard is usually empty this time.” I shook my head, keeping my gaze fixed ahead. “I won’t spend my academy life hiding from people who already dislike me. If I start running now, I’ll never stop. They’ll only grow louder.” She bit her lip but didn’t argue further. “I jus

The academy announced that every first-year group must complete a field assignment by collecting rare moonflowers from the restricted forest. The flowers only bloomed in the hour before sunrise, which meant we had to leave while the sky was still dark and the air still cold. Students complained under their breath about the early hour, but no one dared question the Headmaster’s orders out loud. Our group gathered near the forest edge just as the first pale light began to touch the treetops. Kael took command without waiting for permission or discussion. No one objected not even the instructors standing nearby. His reputation alone was enough. “Adrian, Rowan scout ahead and mark any dense clusters,” he ordered. “Emma, stay in the safer clearing near the path. Do not wander.” Then his emerald eyes settled on me. “You stay beside Emma. Do not slow the group down.” I folded my arms. “I’m not one of your soldiers, Kael. You don’t get to assign me like luggage.” He stepped closer
