Asher’s POV

Why the hell did Kaelen lie?

The question wouldn’t stop coming. It kept turning in my head until it hurt. He had stood in front of Vaelin, looked him dead in the eye, and said he gave me that black-sealed paper himself.

It made no sense. Kaelen didn’t care about me. He was playing his usual game.

He didn’t say a word while he dragged me down the hall. His grip on my wrist was tight enough to leave marks. I had to walk fast just to keep from going down on the stone.

Asher’s POVI think I was having the best dream until hands grabbed my arms.My eyes snapped open. A guard was bent over me, his broad scarred face was inches from mine. Stale grease and old rain clung to his leather coat. Before I could draw a breath, his other hand knotted into my shirt and jerked me straight off the straw.“Get up.”“Let go of me!” I twisted in his grip. My heels dragged across the grit as a second guard caught my left wrist and twisted my arm behind my back. “Where the fuck are you taking me? What did I do?”“Keep your mouth shut if you like your teeth.” The first one drove his forearm into my chest and shoved me toward the open doorway. They hauled me down the narrow corridor. My bare feet scraped the uneven flags. Every time I tried to plant my weight, the guard on my left would yank my arm higher. Doors creaked as we passed. Servants and branded slaves pressed their faces to the iron grates, eyes wide in the amber torchlight.Whispers moved through the hall.“

He was playing his usual game.He didn’t say a word while he dragged me down the hall. His grip on my wrist was tight enough to leave marks. I had to walk fast just to keep from going down on the stone. Torchlight slid over the walls as we moved. Servants stepped out of his way without being told. Nobody looked at my face. The second we hit his private wing, he let go and shoved me forward.I stumbled, caught myself on the wall, and turned to face him. The silk dragged across my shoulder as I straightened. My pulse was still too fast from the near miss with Vaelin. From the parchment and everything that had happened.“Explain.” Kaelen’s voice had none of the soft edge left in it. “Why did you have that parch

Asher’s POVShit… shit… this has got to be the worst day ever.If Kaelen finds out I took that parchment, they will destroy me. Both of them. Right here in this fucking castle. My throat was so dry I couldn't even swallow, and my legs felt like two sack of stones as we walked down the corridor behind Vaelin’s guard."You don't need to come, Prince Kaelen," I said, trying to pull back from his grip on my shoulder.Kaelen didn't even look down at me. He just kept walking, his long black cloak trailing over the floorboards. His thumb pressed firm into my skin to keep me moving beside him. "Nonsense, little gold bird. Where you go, I go.""Wait," I tried again."Please. You really don't need to come."Kaelen paid deaf ears to every word coming out of my mouth. He didn't care that my heart was knocking against my ribs like a trapped rabbit. He just smiled that smooth, arrogant smile of his, completely ignoring my panic. I was terrified of what was going to happen once we stepped through tho

  • Claimed by Alpha Xorax and his sons   The Prince’s Confusion

Kaelen’s POVThe sharp smell of dirt and copper blood still hung in the stable air, but my mind was stuck on the boy standing in the middle of it all.Asher.I couldn't take my eyes off him. He stood there in that oversized, wine-stained crimson silk tunic. A wolfless stray, a simple slave from the East, surrounded by six calm War-Wrags that usually took ten grown, blooded warriors to control. He had no Alpha aura. Yet, with a wooden pitchfork, a handful of quiet hand signs, and a soft click in his throat, he had brought hundreds of pounds of wild muscle to a complete standstill. There was far more to this boy than the quiet, helpless creature he tried to act like. A sheep farmer's son from the border doesn't stand face-to-face with a lunging alpha beast without his pulse jumping. Asher hadn't even blinked. He had moved with a strange, trained precision that belonged to someone who had spent his whole life around command, not someone who shoveled filth for a living. For the first tim

  • Claimed by Alpha Xorax and his sons   The Trap Closes

Asher’s POVMy head snapped back. The massive black Wrag was crouched low, its thick legs digging deep into the mud as it prepared to spring straight for my throat. Yellow foam dripped from its black jaw, and its red eyes were wide, completely out of its mind with wild rage. For a second, my eyes darted past the beast's head and landed right on Prince Vaelin.Shit… not that annoying Alpha again.I didn't even hear him walk into the stables. He was standing near the doorway in his dark leather armor. His hand was resting on the hilt of his broadsword. His cold gaze was fixed on me. He looked genuinely surprised for a split second, his jaw tight, but there was no time to care about whatever was going through his head right now.The beast lunged.I didn't think. My body just reacted. I swung the wooden handle of the pitchfork up, jamming the ash wood straight into the soft underside of its jaw before its teeth could clamp onto my face. The brute let out a painful, strangled yelp. Its fr

  • Claimed by Alpha Xorax and his sons   The Royal Stables

Asher’s POVI was definitely not going to his damn room.I stood in that dark stone passage for maybe five seconds after Kaelen left, watching his long black cloak disappear around the bend. My skin was still prickling from his breath. But the second the hallway went quiet, my brain clicked back on.Fuck waiting in his chambers like a good little trophy. If I stayed put, I was just waiting to be trapped. Besides, if the Citadel was going crazy over something happening at the stables, then I wanted to see it. I needed to know every single thing happening in this fortress. Every distraction was an opportunity that I could use.I stepped out of the shadow, keeping my boots quiet against the flagstones as I trailed the shouting guards.I stayed about twenty paces behind them, blending into the dark edges of the corridor. Torchlight flickered against the damp stone walls as more guards ran past, swords half-drawn, shouting over each other about broken chains and panicked beasts. I kept my
