Chapter Two

I barely slept after receiving the invitation from Ashford Group. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw my father's face and the pile of unpaid bills on his desk. By morning I had convinced myself the meeting would lead nowhere, but I still went because I had run out of choices. The Ashford headquarters was larger than any building I had entered before. Marble floors, quiet halls, and employees who moved with confidence made me feel completely out of place. I reminded myself that I was not there to admire the building. I was there to fight for my company.A woman introduced herself as Evelyn and led me to the top floor. She asked if I wanted coffee. I politely refused because my stomach was too tight for anything. When the elevator doors opened, the silence became even heavier. She stopped outside a pair of dark wooden doors and smiled. 'Mr. Ashford will see you now.' I walked in alone. The office was simple, not flashy. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the city. Behind a large desk sat Caelan Ashford. He looked exactly like the photographs—calm, perfectly dressed, impossible to read. He looked up from a file. His gray eyes stayed on me longer than I expected. 'Miss Vale,' he said. 'Please, sit.' I thanked him and sat across from him, keeping my back straight even though my heart was racing. He already knew everything about Vale Industries. He mentioned contracts, debts, suppliers, and even the names of long-time employees. That surprised me. 'You've done your homework,' I said. 'I never enter a business discussion unprepared,' he replied. I explained my recovery plan, how I wanted to restructure the company instead of selling it. He listened without interrupting. When I finished, he folded his hands together.'Your plan is realistic,' he said. 'But no bank will support it in your current position.' I hated hearing the truth because I already knew it. 'Then why invite me?' I asked. He stood and walked toward the window. 'Because I have another proposal.' He turned back to face me. 'I will pay every debt your company owes. I will provide enough capital for a fresh start.' My breath caught. 'What do you want in return?'He held my gaze. 'I want you to marry me.'For a second I thought I had misunderstood him. I actually looked around the office as if someone else might appear and explain the joke. 'Excuse me?' I managed.'A legal marriage. One year. Public only. We will have separate lives in private. After one year, we divorce. In return, your company survives.' My mind refused to keep up with his words. 'Why me?' I asked. 'Because you have no connection to my family, you have a clean public image, and you honor your promises.' 'You've investigated me.' 'Yes.'I should have been offended, but I was too shocked. 'There has to be someone else.' 'There isn't.'He explained that his grandfather's will required him to be married before control of the Ashford empire could fully pass to him. Rival relatives were waiting for him to fail. A temporary marriage solved the problem. It sounded cold, almost like another business merger.'And what if I refuse?' I asked. 'Then you walk away. Nothing changes.' There was no pressure in his voice, which somehow made the offer even harder to reject. He handed me a contract. I read every page carefully. The rules were simple. One year. No romantic expectations. Respect each other's privacy. Never discuss confidential family matters. 'Take your time,' he said. 'Do not answer today.'I left the building carrying the contract instead of hope. Maya nearly screamed when I told her. She thought it was insane. I agreed. Yet every practical part of my mind kept returning to the same fact. Without money, Vale Industries would disappear within weeks. That evening I walked through the empty factory. Several workers were still finishing orders. They smiled when they saw me. One older employee thanked me for staying strong after my father's death. His words settled heavily on my shoulders.I wasn't fighting only for myself anymore.Back in my apartment, I opened the contract again. I read it from beginning to end for the third time. I searched for hidden traps but found none. Then my phone buzzed.'Have you decided?' Caelan asked after I answered.I looked at my father's photograph on the shelf.'Not yet,' I whispered.'Fair enough,' he replied calmly. 'But Miss Vale...you have forty-eight hours before your creditors begin legal action.'The call ended.I slowly lowered the phone. My promise at my father's grave echoed inside my head.I would protect everything he built. But was I truly ready to marry a man I had only met once?I picked up the pen, stared at the blank signature line, and realized the next choice I made would change the rest of my life.

Chapter SixNeria’s POVI couldn’t stop staring at Caelan after he ended the call. His expression remained calm, but I could tell something was wrong. He slipped his phone back into his pocket and looked at me. “We have to leave now.”I frowned. “What about my father’s office? The police haven’t finished searching.”“They’ll secure the building. Right now, I don’t want you here any longer.”His voice was firm enough to end the argument before it even started. I looked around the office one last time. Seeing my father’s desk turned upside down and his belongings scattered across the floor made my chest ache. Whoever had broken in wasn’t after money. They had been looking for something important, and the worst part was that they probably knew exactly where to look.We walked back outside together. The night air felt colder than before. As soon as we got into the car, the convoy pulled away from the building. Neither of us spoke for several minutes. I kept replaying everything that had h

  • Claimed by the Ruthless CEO   Ashford Mansion

Chapter Five:Neria’s POVI had imagined what a billionaire’s home would look like, but nothing prepared me for Ashford Mansion. The gates slowly opened, and the car drove through a long driveway lined with perfectly trimmed hedges and fountains. The mansion stood proudly in the distance, surrounded by beautiful gardens. It looked less like a house and more like a palace.I suddenly felt underdressed.“This is your home?” I asked quietly.Caelan looked out of the window.“Yes.”That was all he said. The car stopped in front of the entrance. Before I could reach for the door, one of the security guards opened it for me.I stepped out, looking around carefully.Several housekeepers stood in two neat lines. A middle-aged man in a black suit walked forward with a warm smile.“Welcome home, Mr. Ashford.”His eyes moved to me.“And welcome home, Mrs. Ashford.”The title made me uncomfortable.“I’m not really—”“You are,” Caelan interrupted calmly. “From today onward.”The butler gave a poli

I couldn't move. The headline stayed on my phone screen while notifications kept pouring in. Someone had leaked our marriage contract, and every news page was calling me a gold digger. My hands trembled. Outside, reporters shouted Caelan's name, demanding answers. Evelyn closed the blinds and asked me to stay away from the windows. I wanted to leave, but stepping outside would only make things worse.Caelan returned a few minutes later after speaking with security. His jaw was tight. 'This wasn't an accident,' he said. 'Someone planned this.' I looked at him. 'Your enemies?' He nodded once. 'And now they've dragged you into it.' I wanted to ask more questions, but another notification appeared. My company shares had started falling because investors believed the marriage was fake. My stomach twisted. Everything I wanted to protect was being destroyed before the wedding even happened.Caelan took my phone and placed it face down. 'Stop reading the comments.' I frowned. 'Easy for you to

I couldn't sleep. The pen rested on my table like it was waiting for me... I kept staring at my father's photograph, asking myself what he would do. Pride wouldn't save Vale Industries. My employees needed salaries, not promises. Before sunrise I made my decision.I returned to Ashford Group with the signed contract tucked inside my bag. My hands were cold, but my steps were steady. This wasn't love. It was survival.Caelan was already waiting when I entered his office. He looked at me for a long moment before his eyes dropped to the contract in my hands. 'You've decided,' he said.'I have.' My voice barely shook. 'I'll marry you.'He didn't smile. He simply nodded, as though he had expected that answer all along. Somehow that annoyed me. 'You're not even surprised?' I asked.'I was hoping you would choose your company,' he replied calmly. 'You did.'I placed the signed contract on his desk. 'Don't make me regret this.''I'll keep every promise in that agreement, Mrs... Miss Vale.' He correc

Chapter OneI used to believe that hard work could fix anything. That belief began to break on the morning I stood beside my father's coffin.Rain fell without stopping. The cold wind pushed against my black dress as people offered quiet words that I barely heard. I smiled when I had to. I thanked everyone who came. But inside, I felt empty. My father had always been my safe place. He built Vale Industries with nothing except determination and honesty. He often told me, “Money comes and goes, Neria. Your name is what stays.”Now he was gone. When the last guest left, I remained alone beside his grave.“I'll protect everything you built,” I whispered. “I promise.”I believed those words.I had no idea how impossible that promise would become....The next morning, I walked into my father's office for the first time without him waiting behind the desk.Everything looked the same. His coffee cup was still there. His reading glasses rested on a stack of papers. Our lawyer, Mr. Harris, stood near the
