She looked at her hands for a second, her mouth opened then closed. And it opened again, her voice came out smaller.

“It felt wrong.” She murmured. “I felt numb. Like I’d been waiting years for it and it finally happened, and I just felt sick. Maybe a bit disappointed and I hate myself for feeling that way. For wanting it to stop so bad that I hit him.”

That’s my covey.

”That’s not how a kiss should feel.” I stepped in, close enough now that she had to tip her head back to keep me in focus. “

“This was never about sides—“ “Noah.” His voice dropped, suddenly quiet in a way that scared me more. “I’ll ask you one thing, and I need you to be straight with me.” I faced him fully, my throat working overtime to swallow down hard. “Are you fucking my brother?” The room went completely silent before I heard Kade let out a loud laughter. He stepped away from Luca and further into the kitchen, laughing so hard still. “This can’t be real…” Kade chortled as he came back to where we were. “No.” My response came out sharply while my whole body flushed hot with the insult of having to even answer it. I saw relief break across his face so fast, so obvious before something uglier surfaced right along with it. “Good.” He exhaled hard. “Because for a second there I actually thought you’d stopped that low.” My palm connected with his cheek before I even realized, and the sound echoed off the tile with my whole hand stinging from the impact, and his head snapping to the side. He gr

NOAH’s POV I pulled back from Kade so fast I nearly tripped over my own feet, putting a couple feet between us like distance could undo the last five minutes. “Di-did you kiss my brother?” Luca’s brows pulled tightly together, irritation plastered all over his face. His gaze rested on me and somehow I felt my stomach dip faster than the titanic. “Didn’t I tell you to stay away from her?” He finally turned to his brother, anger rose even higher in his tone. I looked at Kade and I couldn’t seem to find even the slightest hint that this bothered him in anyway. He could at least pretend that this was some sort of discomfort for him too and maybe I’d feel a tad bit better like my night wasn’t imploding any faster than it was. “Luca, it’s not what you think.” I held up both my palms, refusing to let my voice shake the way the rest of me wanted to. “I had a panic attack out in the garden. He helped me through it. That’s all.” Why? Why was I explaining to the man who ruined my

I wanted to make her forget, to take her mind off the fact that Luca even breathes. “It should be wet,” I murmured. “I’d say sloppy n the best way. Like the person kissing you isn’t thinking about what comes next—Just this. I want you to see it, sweetheart.” “The sound of your mouth opening—with your tongues meeting for the first time, messy and too eage

KADE’S POVI hadn’t planned on going at all.The thought of sitting through hours of watching my mother treat Luca like the golden child wasn’t exactly my idea of a good night. But then she came into mind, and the thought of her sitting there instead—watching Luca drape himself over Rosalind, watching the whole clown show while she wants to disintegrate quietly into her chair. That would do more for winning our bet in one evening.I’d only known her for a while, and I could already read her like something written in block letters. A petite, sharp mouthed, seductive looking woman—with a completely hopeless certainty my brother was the thing waiting at the end of every road she’d take.I hadn’t found anyone this interesting to be in a room with longer than I wanted to admit. And watching a woman yearn desperately for someone who barely noticed her—while knowing she wanted nothing at all to do with me, was its own kind of challenge. And I wasn’t one to walk away from challenges. Then she

“No.” My lips widened in a small smile that didn’t quite reach my eyes. “The idea of being convinced to love someone…it’s sickening.”I could almost hear a pin drop with how deafening the silence was.I wished, immediately, that I could pull the sentence back out of the air. Why had I even said it? Because I was angry? Because he’d kissed me an hour ago and it had felt like nothing?Because I couldn’t stop hearing Kade’s voice looping in my head like a broken record no matter how hard I tried to drown it out?My appetite vanished completely, as I pushed my plate an inch away.“Are you nervous?”Rosalind’s hand slid across the table toward mine. I withdrew my hands sharply away from the table, but maybe too obviously. Except I didn’t care. And before I’d say more than I intended to, I shot up from my chair.“I need some air.”I made it past the string lights, past the low hedge marking the patio’s edge, into the dark where the garden proper began with grass under my heels instead of sto

  • Claimed by the Wrong Leister Brother   CHAPTER 010: DINNER WITH LIARS

My mouth still tasted like his, and I was supposed to sit through a four course dinner like it hadn’t happened. Like my heart wasn’t shredding in my chest with each laugh, each clink of their glasses. I hadn’t touched my cutlery—the food placed in front of me made my stomach churn even more. Luca wasn’t looking at me. He hadn’t looked at me once since we’d sat down. He was too busy angling toward Rosalind, brushing hair off her shoulder, pressing his mouth to the back of her hand like he hadn’t put that same mouth on mine ten minutes earlier and made everything worse. I stared at him a second longer than I should have, then looked away. “Noah?” My head lifted sharply. Catherine smiled brightly from the head of the table, dressed in ivory silk and a diamond statement earring. She looked like a woman hosting the best night of her life, which I supposed, she was. “I don’t think you’ve properly met everyone.” Right. Of course—how could I forget? We were only three minu
