THE BLOOD WARD

~DAXON'S POV~

The morning light didn't come in strong. It spread into the sky slowly, like dirty water dripping through a crack in the ceiling.

I stood at the large bay window of the Great Hall, my hand resting against the cold glass. Outside, the world was ending in slow motion. The "Void Rot," as Marcus had so poetically named it, had devoured the driveway during the night. The asphalt was gone, replaced by a shifting, powdery grey ash that looked like ground bone.

"It's speeding up," Silas said, his voice tight. He stood beside me, watching a century-old oak tree near the porch turn white and crumble into dust in the span of three. "If things keep going like this, the building will fall down by noon. It won't be safe once the ground under us is gone."

"Where is Marcus?" I asked, turning away from the window. The sight of my home being eaten alive made my wolf pace frantically inside my skull.

"In the library. With Vida. They're arguing."

"Of course they are."

THE HARVEST~VIDA'S POV~The Codex didn't just sit on the library table; it throbbed like an infected wound.Every time I reached for the leather binding, the room temperature dropped ten degrees. The shadows in the corners of the room seemed to stretch toward the book, hungry and listening."It's fighting you," Marcus Blackthorn drawled from the armchair in the corner. He was swirling a glass of blood-laced bourbon, looking for all the world like a bored aristocrat watching a gladiator match. "Dark magic has an immune system, Vida. It knows you're a High Witch. It doesn't like you.""I don't need it to like me," I muttered, wiping a fresh trickle of blood from my nose with the back of my hand. "I need it to talk."I slammed my hand down on the page, forcing my own magic into the ink. The symbols writhed, looking less like letters and more like crawling spiders. But for a split second, they froze.'The Vessel burns hot.The fuel turns to ash.New blood must be sown before the moon rea

GRIMOIRES AND BOURBON~DAXON'S POV~The library of the Packhouse looked like a bomb had gone off in a candle factory.Vida.....our very own Bonnie Bennet, but with more attitude....was surrounded by piles of ancient scrolls, herbs, and crystals. Her nose was already bleeding, a slow trickle of blood that she absentmindedly wiped away with her sleeve."This syntax is ancient," Vida muttered, flipping a page of the Codex violently. "It's a mix of Ancient Sumerian and... something else. Void tongue. It hurts to look at.""Drink this," I said, sliding a glass of bourbon across the table to her. "It helps with the headache.""I need clearness, Daxon, not a buzz.""Take the drink, Vida," I opposed, pouring one for myself. "You're vibrating."She glared at me, took the glass, and downed it in one shot. "Okay. Better."I walked over to the fireplace. Mathias was standing there, staring into the flames. He had cleaned up, changed into a fresh shirt.....charcoal grey, perfectly fit. He looked l

THE RIPPER~MATHIAS'S POV~The rain had stopped, leaving the forest slick and silent. We were moving fast, a blur of movement through the pines, but I could hear him.Heriberto. The Hollow King.He wasn't running. He was moving with the slow, terrifying inevitability of a storm front. I could hear his heartbeat....a slow, thudding beat that sounded like a war drum."He's close," I said, stopping abruptly. My voice sounded different to my own ears. Lower. Smoother. The vampire blood had coated my vocal cords in velvet."How close?" Daxon asked, breathless, gripping his side where the blood rune was still weeping."Close enough to smell our fear," I murmured.I turned to look at them. My brother. My mate. They looked exhausted, mud-streaked, and human. But me? I felt... electric. The hunger was a live wire in my gut, buzzing with imaginable violence."Take Tate to the extraction point," I told Daxon, adjusting my leather jacket cuffs. My shirt was torn, but I straightened the collar wit

THE BETRAYAL~TATE'S POV~We ran until my lungs burned and my legs felt like lead. The tunnels twisted and turned, a maze of dark stone and glowing crystals. Behind us, the sound of grinding rock and hissing shadows grew louder. The mountain itself was trying to digest us."Here!" I shouted, checking the map on my wrist one last time. "This ventilation shaft. David said it leads to the surface!"Daxon ripped the grate off with a grunt of effort. "Go! Tate first!"I scrambled into the tight space. It smelled of rust and mold and old water. I crawled as fast as I could, dragging the heavy bag with the Codex behind me. The metal scraped my knees raw, but I didn't stop. I could hear Mathias and Marcus behind me, their inhuman speed slowed down by the tight quarters. We came out into the cold night air, tumbling out of a drainage pipe halfway down the mountain. We were miles from the main entrance, hidden by a dense thicket of pines. The rain had started again, washing the mine dust from o

THE SHADOW HEIST~MARCUS BLACKTHORN'S POV~Infiltration is basically an art. Most wolves treat it like a reckless demolition derby. They smash, grab, howl, and usually leave a mess that someone like me has to clean up.But tonight required finesse."Remember," I whispered into the comms as we crouched on the ridge overlooking the mine entrance. "We are ghosts. If you engage, you die. If you shift, you die. If you sneeze loudly, you probably die.""We get it, Marcus," Daxon's voice came back, Tense but relaxed, he was hanging out with Tate near the vent, waiting to be pulled out.Below us, the entrance to the mines was guarded by two Void Golems. They stood perfectly still, like statues carved from the night itself, but I could feel the hum of dark magic radiating off them. They weren't looking with eyes; they were sensing movement, heat, life."Mathias," I signaled. "You're up."Mathias moved. He didn't look like a wolf anymore. He moved like smoke. He slipped down the ridge, utilizin

THE GLASS BOND~DAXON'S POV~The training grounds were empty, bathed in the eerie red light of the Blood Ward that buzzed overhead. My head was full of noise, but it was all the wrong kind. It was the noise of my own anxiety, my own fear. What was missing was the silence...the comfortable, shared silence of the Pack bond.Ever since Mathias drank the vampire blood, the connection between us had been severed. It wasn't just quiet; it was dead. I couldn't feel his fear, his plan, his presence. It was like losing a limb and still trying to walk, constantly stumbling because the balance was gone.I sat on a stone bench, pressing a hand to my chest. The rune Marcus had carved there was a raised keloid scar now, pulsing with a dull ache."You're brooding," a voice said.I turned. Myra was standing there, holding a leather satchel. She looked tired, her hair tied back, her eyes sharp. She had grown up so much in the last few weeks."I'm thinking," I corrected."You're grieving," Myra said bl
