Chapter 6: Phone Conversation

Sherly smiled as she dialed George's number, knowing that even in the midst of his hectic life, he always made time for her. She really could not make her day complete whenever she did not hear George's call. Of course, it is the same as George as well. Even though he is busy, he still finds time to text her and ask her how her day is.

As the phone rang, she could picture him in her mind, focused and determined, yet always with a soft spot reserved just for her.

"Hey, babe," Sherly greeted warmly as he picked up. There is also a hint of teasing in her voice, which made George smirk on the other end of the call. "How's your day going?"

George's voice, though busy, softened at the sound of Sherly's voice. He smiles softly whenever he's talking to Sherly, and this makes the people around him shiver. Some of them don't know, but mostly they know that it was because he was talking to Shery. "Hey, babe," he replied, a hint of warmth coloring his tone. Even the pampering in his voice is still visible, which sent a shiver down the spines of the people who didn't know who was on the other end of the call. "It's been a whirlwind, as usual." Of course, it was because he stumbled upon an article regarding his brother. "But hearing from you makes it better. How about you? How's everything on your end?"

Sherly leaned back in her chair, feeling a wave of contentment wash over her. She massaged her temple as she tried to calm her mind from thinking. "It's been eventful, to say the least," she confessed. "You know how it is with the family drama."

George chuckled, a sound that never failed to make Sherly's heart flutter. "Ah, the joys of family," he mused. He knew that Sherly didn't like it when something happened to her family, but when she finally solved it, she would be happy to discuss or tell George. "But hey, at least you're not facing it alone. You've got me, remember?"

That's right. George was so busy, but he has no one aside from his best friend, the boss of the mafia. However, his beloved Sherly has a lot on her plate, and she needed someone by her side. Thus, he is happy to see that she is enjoying her life despite the things that she has been through in her childhood.

Besides, he's here now. Although both of them have the same high position in the underworld, they still needed to keep quiet. Besides, they already talk about it. Sherly will act as if she knows nothing in the underworld, not even about George. It is to protect her and her family.

Sherly's heart skipped a beat at George's words, grateful for his unwavering support. Nodding her head in satisfaction, "Of course," she said softly. "I don't know what I'd do without you, George."

Their conversation continued, each word carrying a warmth and intimacy that only they shared, reminding Sherly of the bond they had forged amidst the chaos of their lives. As they talked, Sherly couldn't help but feel a sense of peace wash over her, knowing that no matter what challenges lay ahead, George would always be by her side.

How long has it been since Sherly felt this warm? It was a long time ago, and now she's feeling it with just George's voice.

Sherly listened intently as George voiced his concern, his words carrying a weight of genuine worry. She appreciated his protective nature, knowing that he only had her best interests at heart.

"But I want you to be careful, okay?"

"I understand, George," Sherly replied, her tone solemn yet resolute. She sat back and crossed her legs. "But you know me. I can't stand idly by when my family needs me, no matter the risk."

There was a pause on the other end of the line, as if George were grappling with her response. He knows that Sherly is this kind of woman when it comes to her family. So, all he could do was sigh. Sherly imagined him running a hand through his hair, a gesture he often made when he was deep in thought. Of course, that is what George did after he sighed.

"I know, babe," George finally said, his voice tinged with resignation. His eyes then look around, only to see his subordinates with their heads hung low. What's with them? "But promise me you'll be careful. You're playing with fire, and I don't want to see you get burned."

Sherly smiled softly, touched by George's concern. "I promise," she assured him, raising her hand even though George couldn't see her action. "I'll tread carefully, and I won't take any unnecessary risks. Just knowing you're looking out for me gives me the strength to face whatever comes my way."

Their conversation shifted, with George offering words of encouragement and Sherly feeling a renewed sense of determination. George really is different from those guys. He isn't just there because of her body or her experience in sex, but because she is herself. George seems to not care about her past.

As they talked, Sherly couldn't help but feel grateful for George's unwavering support, knowing that even in the darkest of times, he would always be her guiding light.

Sherly nodded, though George couldn't see her gesture over the phone. "I understand," she replied earnestly, her voice soft but resolute. "I'll lie low for now; keep to the shadows where I can't be easily spotted."

There was a brief pause on the line before George spoke again, his tone grave. "Remember, Sherly, there are dangers lurking in every corner, not just within the underworld. Keep your guard up, and trust no one but yourself."

Sherly's lips formed a determined line as she absorbed George's words. "I will," she promised, her voice tinged with determination. "I won't let my guard down, not for a moment. I know the risks, George, but I won't back down from protecting my family, no matter what."

With a silent understanding passing between them, they exchanged a few more words of reassurance before reluctantly ending the call. As Sherly tucked her phone away, she couldn't shake the feeling of gratitude for George's unwavering support, even in the face of danger. With his warning echoing in her mind, she resolved to tread cautiously, knowing that her actions could have far-reaching consequences for both herself and those she held dear.
