Chapter 135

ALEJANDRO POV

I was elated.

There was once a time I bought myself a five-hundred-thousand-dollar wrist watch, made with real diamonds and bedazzled all over. I remember walking out of the store feeling like I had made it in life. I thought that was real happiness, that having all the money to waste and burn was all a man could ever need.

But it was nothing compared to what I was feeling now. Heck. I thought of it and realized how stupid I had been to think an expensive watch could be something that could fulfill someone.

But this… this was on a whole other level.

There was just something euphoric about the idea of being wanted. About the idea of being loved. Knowing that there was that certain somebody who will you choose you over and fucking over despite all of you visible flaws… the one person who will stand beside you, who will help move mountains with you while never letting go of your hand…

That feeling surpassed any I thought I ever knew.

Chapter 137 RAYANA POV The scream ripped through the night like a soul being yanked from its cage of flesh and bones. I was jolted awake, heart hammering like a drum in my chest. Sweat covered my skin, and the sheets were a tangled mess at my feet. My hand instinctively shot to my left, only to be met by piercing coldness and not the warmth of my husband’s body. Another scream tore through the air, louder, longer. More pained like it was being dragged right off someone’s ribcage. I pulled myself upwards and blinked rapidly, my eyes falling everywhere and around the place. I was still in our bedroom, but it was dark. The clock on my nightstand signalled it was a few minutes right after midnight. The screaming continued, coming right out from outside the window. It was loud, raw, and pained. I jumped off the bed and stared at the orange that seeped through the edges of the curtains. I flung them far and wide, only to gasp at the sight before me. I yanked the glass doors open and

Chapter 136 ALEJANDRO POV The walk to the medicine room felt longer than usual. Perhaps it was the weight that let crushed into my chest so hard my ribs could barely contain it; or the silence that was so loud it felt like my soul was screaming inside me. Even the walls were colder than usual, staring with black eyes as I marched down the long hallway, nodding to the guards who stood there with dread covering them like clothes. We all knew what came next. Everything in the base, living and non-living../ The crisp air… even the bloody whisper in the air knew what was going to happen. I walked into the medical room and the smell hit me in the face. Blood. Pain. Rot. I squinted my eyes to adjust to the bright light, then inched into the room. Lorenzo lay on his back, bathing in deafening silence. His body was stumped, his limbs cut clean in brutal precision at the joints. The sole water had done its job. The Himalayan salt ravaged the body until there was nothing left to destro

Chapter 134RAYANA POVI was smiling. A dreamy, soft smile with my eyes closed. My heart pounded with vigor, like it was being resuscitated from the dead, my legs barely functioned from the beguiling tremor that had settled in my bones, and my hair was a whole crime scene of tangled sweat and lust. But that didn’t faze me. Not in the slightest bit. I had this unknown sense of peace that made me immune to all the problems of this world: I was sated, spent, and just content with the way things were. All that mattered were his arms around my body, his shirt that covered my naked body, and the scent of his existence that washed over me like liberation. There were no words said as we climbed floor after floor out of the cigar room, just his lips against my head and pounding hearts. He carried me down the long way, his arms a fortress around my body. We passed his guards who barely flinched at our not-so-dressed forms, his heart thundering in his chest like a war drum. I nestled in his

Chapter 133ALEJANDRO POV The old fuck decided to leave with all the air that was in the room. Silence stretched like elastic, his words playing on a broken reel inside my brain, clanking against my skull like church bells. Or perhaps, a chance. I chanced a look at Rayana to find her rigid and unmoving in her stance, her spine straightened and her chest rising and falling with calculated breaths. But I saw it, the slight tremor in her fingers as she clutched onto the Manila envelope for dear life. The pull between us, that rope that held our hearts together once again twisted, coiled, and hardened. And the ice around her began to thaw. Heck, Vladimir’s words charred me so good that there was no stubbornness left in me. I just needed my wife, and the old man was right: no empire was important than the one inside this home. With that, I walked from where I stood in small steady strides, then rounded the couch before dropping beside her. She didn’t flinch, and my heart skipped a fuc

Chapter 132 VLADIMIR POV The mansion was too quiet. Even death had a sound. A cold whisper that rattled through the bones as it danced around, waiting to claim its stake. Death was much more alive than all of this. Sun streaked through the open windows, making the whole space warm. Nothing could be heard but a canary singing in the distance. The door slowly creaked open and Rayana peeked her head through before carefully stepping in, then closed it behind her with a soft click. “You called for me.” Her eyes landed on me, and anywhere else, except onto one person her heart sought before her eyes did. I could see with her breath hitching, she felt him; she knew he was here, and her soul longed for his touch.“I did. Come in please.” I responded with a curt nod, my feet curled onto the table. I watched as she skidded across the room. Alejandro plucked himself from where he stood before walking towards his wife, then pulled out a chair for her. The little vixen decided the act was
