ALEJANDRO POV

The tension in the room was thick and cloying, the air dense and heavy to breathe.

I pinched the bridge of my nose and stared at the small chair that was placed in the middle of the office, curtains closed and shadows hiding underneath the blinding light of the crystal chandelier above. It was a good place, the one grandmothers used to have.

What enticed me was not the chair… No.

It was the bambolina dressed in a white dress, hair pulled in a tight bun on top of her head. She had on her feet white stiletto heels with red bottoms, and her face held no emotions whatsoever.

“Signorita, please. I did not mean to…”

“To betray my husband and I? I know.” She nodded with mock understanding, then pulled the white gloves from the pocket of her white fur coat that was draped behind the chair, and dropped them to her lap.

My blood ran cold with what came next!

“They had my family. My wife and my daughter… I didn’t know what to do.” The traitor bawled from the floor in front of her, his hands coming out to clutch the heel of her white stilettos, staining them with blood.

Her face twisted with disgust.

I chuckled where I stood.

“You are touching me.” She said with sheer nonchalance, and the man dropped his hand the shoe had caught fire.

Bruno yanked him, sending him to the floor where he landed with a meaty thunk.

“Now, the Contini’s have your wife and child hostage. Instead of doing what any smart man would, which is coming to me, or my husband to report, you decide it's in the best interest to go behind our backs and leak my dealings to the media. Not so smart, Lloyd.” She shook her head while regarding the man whose face was a mess of blood, tears, and mucus.

I stared, mesmerized by the intensity in Rayana’s eyes as she regarded the traitor who scattered the news of Rayana being involved with the underworld to the media.

When we found out who the rat was, I was livid, wanting to skin him alive and make a wall piece with his skin.

But then she held my hand, shook her head and me, and muttered ‘Let me take care of this.’

Seeing her in the game, how much she’s grown and accustomed to the mafia world made my chest swell with pride.

She took gloves and sheathed her hands, then stood up and took big strides to where I was standing.

I watched the small sway in her hips, the way the white dress clung to her body, and I swallowed audibly!

She was hot as hell. Heck, even today, I still couldn’t believe she was mine.

She stopped in front of me and leaned in for a small kiss. Our lips collided briefly, sending a spark of dopamine throughout my system. She pulled back and smiled.

I wrapped my arms around her lean waist and then stared into her beautiful eyes.

“What do you wanna do with this one?” I mumbled before nibbling her lower lip.

“Bruno show him the video we have.” She said out loud to Bruno who quickly sprung into action. My brows knitted with confusion, but she smiled assuringly before patting my chest.

“I am always a step ahead, baby.” And how true that was.

I watched out of my peripheral vision as Bruno tapped on the iPad he had, then showed it to Lloyd whose face contorted with pain at first, then a relieved laughter cackled out of him.

I stared at Rayana in question.

“I got the family from the Contini’s hands.” She winked, then yanked the gun from my waist belt and spun around in my hold.

My hands dropped from her waist reluctantly but once again, I was in utter awe.

She stood in front of Lloyd with a gun in her hand, Lloyd’s head hung low on his shoulders with defeat. He knew what was coming next. He knew there was no way he could make out alive after doing what he did.

Even if Rayana were to pardon him, I’d still smother him and send him straight to hell.

“You see, Lloyd, we take care of what is ours. You could have gotten your family safe and sound.” She said as she drew the gun and pointed it at the motherfucker’s face.

“I am so-,”

BAM!

The loud sound filled the space before the body dropped onto the floor. Blood started to pool from beneath it, and Rayana spun around and faced me.

Blood stained her dress, and looking at her now, I feared I might have created the she-devil.

She took off her gloves and dumped them onto the body, the signature she came up with when she fully accepted her role as my wife and the queen of Cosa Nostra.

A silent ‘I did it, and there’s nothing you can do about it,’ she sent to the police and everyone who dared to come spewing nonsense to us. She was my queen, my phoenix, and she was a bloody murder weapon.

She extended her hand, and I wrapped my fingers around her lean ones.

“Let’s get out of here.”

Chapter 125 RAYANA POVWarmth pulsed beneath my skin like a steady heartbeat; but the pain still simmered- dull, deep, but just… there like a warning. My mind kept playing one broken ‘what the fuck is going on’ reel over and over again. Just when I thought it would stop, it started yet again. Every passing second felt like pure torture of unsaid words and broken promises as I laid cradled in Alejandro’s arms on a hospital bed. His heartbeat was a steady thump against my ear, his breathing low, calculated. Silence? It was fucking deafening, broken only by the sound of the machine beeping on the side of the bed; a dull reminder that I was infact; alive. I massaged his chest, pressing my finger right where his heart thumped with a steady beat. A heavy sigh escaped me, unable to continue any further down the rabbit hole. “Lorenzo told me things,” I whispered. His hand that was on my back, froze for a second before it resumed its path across my spine. I waited for him to ask me what

Chapter 124 ALEJANDRO POVThe door whisked open and I erupted from my chair. The doctor froze by the door, then took one look at me before heading out a loud disturbed sigh. I pushed my hands into my pockets and waited. He pushed the door closed and skidded towards the bed where Rayana laid still, unmoving. She’s been sleeping for so long. I just wish she could wake up, look at me with those beady beautiful eyes. Maybe… maybe I would heal. Maybe I would stop feeling like I died, went to hell, and came back. “The MRI results are out. I am afraid she has to st-,” “Get to the damn point, doc. What the hell is wrong with my wife? Why is she not waking up?” I said in a low tired voice, but the rasp in it was enough to cut through steel. The doctor swallowed, then fixed the rims of his glasses on the bridge of his nose before looking at the of in his hands. “She has a subdural hematoma. Chapter 123ALEJANDRO POVThe sun was almost starting to set when we finally arrived home. Home. Even saying it out loud felt foreign. It hadn’t even been a week since the last time I was here, but it felt like the whole place was all new to me. It was almost six in the evening. I expected to find the place empty, cold, with nobody else to return to; especially when I had a sick wife to attend to. That’s how weird it all was. What I did not expect to find was men and women, all gathered around the fountain roundabout that led to the house and the underground garage. They all wore solemn expressions, pained expressions of great longing and something else. Something that looked like a mixture of crippling rage and relief, oil and water. Some even had guns and were ready to go to immediate war if need be.The cars pulled to a halt in front of the stairs that led to the house, and I exited first. Some sobs filled the space, some murmurs breaking out. Teary eyes looked at me like I had j

Chapter 122VINCENZO POV “Home.” I called out plainly before I got into the back of the car. The most plausible thing to do would have been to stay and Rome and looked to the mess made by Lorenzo, but I had other things to take care of. And I bet the Vatican couldn’t give a damn about a bit of destruction that went on. Although it was hardly a ‘bit’. Kaito remained glued by my side, unmoving and steady. His gaze lingered on my face as the cars whooshed from their parking and headed to the airport. I cast a look at him and arched a brow. “I don’t know how you do it.” He said in a smooth voice. “This world is fully of everything by dark. And right now you were just betrayed by the man whom you trusted. Yet yiu are still so strong and unshaken.” I broke my gaze from his and stared ahead, not knowing what I was going to say in response to that. “Some things force you to be strong even when you don’t want to.” I mumbled underneath my breath. I felt him nod beside me, and I was tha

Chapter 121RAYANA POVI remained frozen in Lorenzo’s hold as everything else unfolded in front of me. At that point, I surely had forgotten the simple act of breathing as Nikolai’s body crumbled in front of his father. He stood there, like an angel of death carrying out a deadly assignment, as though he had not just watched his only offspring take his life in front of him. I guess loyalty ran deeper than blood. The only way to pay for betraying none but the Pakhan himself was through death. I felt a tremor rattling Lorenzo behind me, his hold growing lax and his panting breath washing all over my back. I was still in a cold stupor, my mouth hanging open. Of all things that happened, nothing would have prepared me for what had just happened. “Now it’s your turn.” Vladimir’s voice came out harsher than the cold wind in winter; his eyes a smoldering black of oblivion that could swallow anything living, and in front of him. He skipped over Nikolai’s dead body before skating forward,

  • Claiming The Archduchess   Chapter 120

Chapter 120 RAYANA POV Screams echoed around the cathedral, piercing right through the haze of darkness that had washed over me and swallowed me whole.I felt like I had been to hell and I was clawing my way back, with fists and kicks and bites; fighting everything in my way with all the little might that was left inside of me.I slipped in and out of unconsciousness for so long; my soul stuck on the precipice of life and death. It was a gruesome torture of being dead and alive all at the same time; feeling everything while being numb all at once.I just knew one had to lose, and one had to win the fight. Gunfire continued oozing from all around me, death swirling in the air with a bitter stance. It was suffocating, and it felt like I was drowning in a bottomless pool of sorrow and agony. I came to and found myself cradled in the arms of the priest who was shaking like a bloody leaf, eyes snapped wide as he watched the whole place being flipped upside down by men whose souls were s
