"This seriously is a lot of work," I state with a sigh that's long as the list of things I need to do. "Yeah," says Hala, "I'm not sure which is worse. "There's some mystery though," I say while leading the two of us, Leonard and I, ooh I like that, to Valence's Mausoleum, "about Valence." "Like what?" asks Leonard, his curiosity focused on me. "Well—" I say, the many details that are mysterious coming to mind, "where to start. There's—" Leonard and I happen to just be walking around in the hall toward the garden, when a particular girl with curly black hair, a little more curly than Hala's, nearly storms into the two of us, and gives both of us a horrible look. Though, she disappears just as quick as she appears, and I don't have to worry about her except in the memory of her I try to erase. Leonard and I look at each, confused, then look at the spot the girl was, and then turn to each to each other again. Shrugging it off, we continue walking. "Um, anyways, uh, what was that?" "Have you decided what to do with the Halloween dress-up thing?" asks Syl to me, since we're all sitting around in Majestic Theory class, during class, studying while Mrs. Loop going around helping students. The current session is a study day, since toward the middle of November, we'll have mid-terms. It's not that all the topics that needs to be covered until mid-terms is as such, but we're on a good pace, so Mrs. Loop thought we'd pause on learning more, and instead try to review anything if anybody had trouble learning it in the first try. I've never had one of those sessions in my life up until now in academia, but I appreciate it and take advantage of it. There are a handful of topics that could use a little more attention from me, and this is the perfect opportunity that Mrs. Loop is providing that I can't miss, and won't because I want to appreciate her smart and really kind gesture. Using Hala's compact, I glance at my silver necklace, observing the nice shine it has when deflecting light into my eyes as glistening reflections. Mr. Hoyt really has nice silver, and I should find a job so I can go and buy some more silver. He's a good business I want to support. Plus, when it comes to spending money, I've grown up hearing many times that silver, as well as other metals, are very good investments. Especially when it comes to the type of jewelry you purchase. It's got something to do with how the jewelry piece that lasts a great deal of time is treasured, while more delicate and somewhat shattered pieces aren't really interesting for the market to look at. Though, thinking about it now, to when I've been to a few antique stores and jewelry shops with vintage jewelry, I've seen pretty delicate and breakable pieces that fetch very high prices. "I still feel a little, obsolete, I guess, not wearing anything on a day like Halloween," I say, seeing as how many of the other teens in school are a little more special looking with colors they don't usually have placed into their attire. That's just the tame side of things, while other teens have gone all-out with the constumes. There's a T-rex and a fariy queen chatting and walking by, and in one of the doorways I can spot a teen in a bee costume. There's even a teacher who has a crazy-scientist wig on, who is merrily talking and holding up a pumpking for another faculty member, dressed in the star and moon robe of a wizard. "Eh, don't sweat it," says Syl, who does have plastic vampire teeth in his mouth, "it's nothing important. Besides, you only had a week, tops, to get ready. It's not even required. So who cares?" "Are you certain of this?" asks a teacher, which I recognize to be my history course instructor Mr. Kean, "That these students have broken into the faculty room and stole these drafts of the midterm tests?" He holds up the papers that were scattered, which I realize now that I, along with several of my friends, am being accused of stealing for personal gain. My head reels as I try to fathom several things at once. Why I'd be targeted, what it is this Aya girl trying to accomplish. How can I disprove such a claim. Where I can run to for a moment to be safe and try to acquire asylum. "Dead certain, Mr. Kean," nods Aya triumphantly, "I have all the evidence to prove it was them. We just need to collect them and force confessions." "You're a lying witch," calls Hala from where she is in the hall, and Aya turns to spot her in the crowd. Walking into the majestic theory class, I spot Hala and Syl again, and they smile as they see me. Leonard is also with them, and after I arrive we start talking immediately after yesterday. I got to talk with both Syl and Hala this morning at breakfast, but we're still stuck on that topic. "Have you heard anything about Aya yet?" I ask, since I did get accused of a certain crime and I'm interested in a certain amount of redemption. "Not yet," answers Hala, and both Leonard and Syl shake their heads, and Hank comes over after he sets his bag on his desk. "I heard a rumor that Aya is going to be expelled, and she's packing her stuff now," says Hank, "since she got exposed as having set up the whole thing." It's true. From the information I gathered yesterday after I left the Mausoleum with Leonard and talked with everyone, who was not trying to capture me, thankfully, Aya wanted to in a sense get revenge on everyone in the sports clubs who happened to minimize her presence. "Do you think we're ready for our presentation?" asks Syl a little nervously. "I'd believe so," says Machiv. "I made sure that all the spelling was correct, the resources were cited, and the pictures weren't weird," says Hala, counting off on her fingers. "I think we'll be fine," I say, "I mean, we've done our best, and from what I'm guessing the presentation will get us a B at least." "I thought you were going to say an A at least," says Syl laughing. "That too," I say with a smile. "I don't think it's that pressing to be concerned about this presentation," says Machiv calmly, brushing through his hair with his gloves on, "this presentation only influences fifteen percent of this quarter's grade.
