The loud echoe of dogs barking in the distance jolted me awake. With ragged breaths, I took in my sorrounding.
The rumble of thunder overhead indicated a possible chance of a heavy rainfall. With the help of the tree stump behind me, I pushed myself up into a standing position.
The vicious barking of dogs continued, no doubt hunting dogs. They may have figured I would have chosen to take refuge in the forest.
With shaking limbs, I trudged in the opposite direction, looking over my shoulder in paranoia anytime I heard shuffling in the bushes.

Once done, I made my way to the kitchen first. My mother and I lived in a two bedroom apartment which I was responsible for keeping spotless.
