CHAPTER 3—Trying to Convince Him

CHAPTER 3—Trying to Convince Him

Raffis’ Point of View

I now look up and see the big and tall house owned by the Redwoods. All I know is that I went in here to pick up Dad because I was going home with him, but I don't remember what the inside looked like. I took a deep breath.

My dad didn't know that I went here to Rock Redwood's house. I'm sure I won't be allowed to talk. Because I know that everything goes through the request. Maybe dad just doesn't want to lower his pride and doesn't want to plead with Rock. Rock is his nephew, and I am confident that we will be granted if we request an extension.

We can pay off our debt as long as Rock gives me enough time. I just got my license as a nurse and just started because I've been busy with mommy.

"Who are you? What are you doing there?" asked the woman wearing a black fitted dress, who I think is in her mid-forties. She was standing right outside the big door, while I was still a little far from her place. She is familiar to me. She is the butler here in the big house of the Redwoods, but I don't know what hwr name is. Her aura is scary because she looks grumpy.

"Ah, I'm Raffi Remoirs."

She looked at me from head to toe with one eyebrow raised. I think I'd rather just go home and sleep today. But no. I can't share my fear with anyone, especially Rock Redwood.

"Follow me," said the female butler before turning her back on me.

I secretly prayed that my conversation with Rock would go well.

When I entered, I felt a strange fear. It was cold all around and a bit dark. They are rich, but why do they seem to save on electricity? I noticed two maids in the living room. One sweeps while the other wipes the flower vace.

I smiled at them when our eyes met, but they ignored me. I was suddenly embarrassed. "Doesn't anyone know how to smile in this place?" I whispered.

"Hurry up, Ms. Remoirs." The female butler's voice was cold when she called me, so I hurried to follow her.

She stopped at a large door and faced me. "You have to wait here. I will go inside first."

"Okay," I said softly.

The woman entered while I was staring at the entire hallway. It has many pictures hanging in the wall. Those are portraits of something. Some are beautiful to look at, but most are unpleasant to look at because they cause a strange shiver in my body.

"Maybe they are expensive and antique," I said while staring at one.

That got my attention. It's a portrait of a beautiful woman who I don't know. I was about to touch the name written there when I suddenly jumped in shock. The door opened with a loud noise. I immediately faced the woman who was looking at me seriously. It seemed to study what I did while she was in the room.

I smiled at her, even though I knew it was a fake.

"Go inside," she said to me.

At that time, I was more nervous because I was finally going to face Rock Redwood. I will only face him now, and I will really beg. I know my dad's nephew. He is a cruel Lycan King and is feared by his subjects. I took a deep breath before stepping inside.

I just closed my eyes because the air conditioner was so strong inside. It was twice as cold in the living room earlier. And just like that, there seems to be no light inside. I jumped slightly when the door closed. Why do I feel that way? It seems I can't get out of here alive.

"What do you need from me?" Rock's voice was cold and deep, full of authority.

I turned to the speaker. A man was sitting on the swivel chair, looking at me seriously. His nose was so pointed that I couldn't see his eyes because the light was barely hitting his face. I can only see a thin nose and mouth now. I can't see anything, and my eyes are still adjusting.

"Aren't you going to answer?" the man asked again.

"A-ahm, are you Mr. Rock Redwood?" I asked, even though I knew it was him and no one else.

I could clearly see how one corner of his lips rose, and he smirked. "How come you came here but you don't know what your purpose looks like?" he asked. Just his voice is scary.

"Ah... I am Raffi Remoirs. I am the adopted daughter of your Uncle Connor, Mr. Rock. I just want to talk to you if you have time." I said in low voice since Rock started to move. I swallowed.

Rock leaned back and moved his head slightly. I heard how his neck sounded. Even the movement of his Adam's apple did not escape my eyes.

"You are here in my office now. Do you think I can do anything else?" He stopped speaking for a moment. "What do you need?"

"R-Rock, dad mentioned to me what you want to happen so that we can pay you a debt. Maybe we can just pay money.

"And do you think you can pay me right away now that I agree?"

I blinked my eyes. "N-now? Just a moment. It's not possible—"

"If you can't pay today, no one else can replace you." Rock moved. He moved forward to put a little light on his face.

That's when I saw his handsome face. His jaw is defined, and his face is in perfect shape. His eyes, even though they look lifeless, are beautiful to look at because they are gray in color. I seem to be hypnotized because he is now looking at me.

"If you don't need anything, you can leave."

"Why don't you listen and talk to me first? Give me more time. Even two months. Or if you don't want it, at least one month. We can also pay—"

"I do not need money. I have a lot of that." He smirked again. "I know you know what I need, Ms. Remoirs."

"B-but—"

Rock immediately stood up, causing the chair he was sitting on to make a loud noise. "No buts, no whys, Ms. Remoirs." He crossed his arms across his chest. "Uncle Connor owes my family too much, and I need payment."

I'm starting to get annoyed, but I'm still patient. "Rock... I mean, Mr. Redwood, what you want to happen is not good. Why do I have to pay my family's debt? Why am I the one you thought of carrying your future child?" I took two steps closer to the front of his table. "Mr. Redwood, I'm just a she-wolf. We can't be together. You know that."

The way he looked was still blank. I can read no emotion. Rock walked until he was right in front of me. He is taller than me. Actually, he can turn me down if he wants to. He bent slightly to bring his face closer to mine. I stepped back. "There is nothing else you can do but follow our conversation with Uncle Conoor, Ms. Remoirs."

"I will not allow it!" I said.

He frowned and seemed unable to believe that I was really opposing what he wanted.

"I will not agree to be the mother of your child! I don't want other Lycans to talk about me, especially my future child, when I agree. Don't you have pity?"

"Ms. Remoirs…" He came even closer to me and bowed his head even more. He looked directly into my eyes. "When I say that our conversation is final, it really is final. Nothing can be changed."

I'm not sure if what I saw was right or just my imagination, but I noticed that his gaze landed on my lips. I could clearly see how he swallowed because his Adam's apple moved.

I stepped back.

He straightened up and took a deep breath. "Uncle and I have talked and we have come to an agreement. You will be the mother of my heir and you can't do anything else. If you don't need anything, you can leave. You're bothering me too much." Rock turned around and went back to his chair. He has already been pressed on the device. "Please take Ms. Remoirs."

After a while, the female butler came in and looked at me with a serious face. She unfolded it further and pointed to the door. Annoyed, I glanced at Rock, who was already working on his laptop.

Every step I took out of the Redwood mansion was heavy. I can't understand why our conversation turned out like that. Rock didn't even give me a chance to get some time to pay him.

"He says he has a lot of money... he's arrogant! Annoying! Why did he choose me to be the mother of his child, right? Why doesn't he use his wealth to find a woman for his family? Why me? Why me?" I looked like an idiot. I ranted to myself as I walked out of the large Redwood compound.

"WHY DID you even think of going and talking to Rock, Raffi? You know that will only make him angry!" dad said when he entered the house.

"I didn't say anything bad. I just tried to talk to him to change his mind, so as not to be unfair on my side, dad," I said. I'll admit that I'm really annoyed with them because they're so unfair.

Dad came to me and held my hands. "Raffi, can you just do this for the sake of our family? For the sake of your mom. I know that if she were alive today, she would beg you too. Also, don't you want your child to have a good life? When you and Rock have a child, he will inherit all of Redwood's property. All the wealth will go to your son! Raffi, let's just look at the positive side of what you're going to do, okay?"

I shook my head. "But, dad..."

"I know it's very unfair, Raffi. I am very very sorry. Forgive Daddy, but even if it's the last one, give it to Daddy, okay?"

"What you want is not easy. I have never thought of having a child. Also, what else is another lycan going to tell me? I'm a she-wolf, dad. I'm not like you, I'm not a Lycan. I can't be partnered with Lycan, especially when he's a king!"

"Rock is a Lycan King, and I know he knows his decisions. Now, let's let him handle everything. Other Lycans don't care. He will protect you. You will not get married. After you give birth, all our problems will be over."

I just looked at Daddy. I feel like I'm running out of things to say because he always has an answer. He always justifies what he say. I just shook my head. "I'm going to go to my room." I was about to turn around, but I felt dad's hand on my arm. I looked at him.

"There is nothing more we can do even if you refuse, Raffi."

I frowned. "What do you mean, dad?"

He stood up straight and let go of me. He took a deep breath before speaking. "I have already signed an agreement with Rock, so even if you don't agree, we can't back down. I'm really sorry, my daughter. Let's just think that our lives will be relieved when you give Rock a child."

"What if I can't give him a child?"

"You can give him a child. I believe you can give him a child."
