Enzo's Pov

I leave the house with a weight pressing on my chest. I told myself this marriage would be simple—a contract, a façade—but Arianna’s face when she saw Sasha’s photograph won’t leave my mind. I’d expected annoyance, maybe even resentment. That I could live with. But sadness? Real sadness? That was something I didn’t prepare for.

I shake my head, pushing the thought away. I can’t let myself think like that. She has to understand—this is a sham, and it will always be that way. That’s what keeps us both safe. The boundaries must stay sharp, unmovable.

The truck pulls up to Antonio’s estate. As always, the gates open without a question, recognition enough of who I am and why I’m here. I would’ve preferred not to disturb them tonight—they’re probably still drained from the wedding and the flight—but the envelope in my hand carries information that can’t wait.

I step out, straighten my jacket, and make my way toward the main entrance. Inside, the house smells like roasted bread a

AriannaHis voice was like ice, suddenly cutting through all the fire. “Where are your rings?”“In the same place where this farce of a marriage is, stored away in a drawer,” I replied, my heart skipping a beat.Rage returned to Enzo's face, but I didn't back down. I had come this far; I was fed up. If he wanted to kill me, I thought, let him do it once and for all.“You can't take off your rings, much less if you're going out,” he scolded, gritting his teeth.“You don't wear yours,” I countered, looking at his hand. He had never worn it. Since we had stepped foot in New York, I hadn't seen him wear it even once.“It's different.”“Why?” I questioned, poking his chest with my finger. “Because you're a man? Because you can do whatever you want with your life and with your cock, but I can't?”“Because it's my brand!” he roared. “Those f*cking rings shout to the world that you're mine!”“I'm not yours. I don't belong to anyone, and I'm tired, Enzo. I'm tired of being treated like merchan

Arianna“Don't worry,” I said to Marco. “I don't think he cares too much about what I do with my life. Besides, he himself says I'm not a prisoner.”Marco nodded, acknowledging I was right, but his nervousness didn't go away. He got out of the car, as did the driver, and opened my door to help me out, but an idea occurred to me. If Enzo was home, it was the perfect time to take advantage and start with my plan.“Wait a moment,” I told Marco, and closed the door again.I looked through the dozens of packages and took out the dress I had in mind. I started undressing inside the car. It was uncomfortable, but I managed. I took off my bra since the dress didn't need it and changed my cotton panties for one of the lace thongs I had bought. I took out a pair of high-heeled sandals with a thin strap and put them on. I looked at myself in the rearview mirror, fixed my hair's waves, and checked that my makeup was intact. Once I was sure everything was perfect, I opened the door again to get ou

AriannaWhen Marco heard her, the man raised his head from the phone he was glued to, and when his eyes settled on me, his jaw dropped. He wasn't pretending; my ego soared to the stratosphere when I saw his reaction.“You like it?” I asked, with a smug grin.“You... you're beautiful. Not that you weren't before, it's just that now…” he stuttered, and I laughed to lighten the mood.“Relax,” I said softly. “Let’s go, it’s late.” Indeed, by the time we left, it was already nighttime. “Do you want to eat?” I asked my bodyguard. “I'll treat you to dinner.”“That wouldn't look good, ma’am. I think it’s better if we go. The Don must be about to return and wants you to be home by then.”I laughed bitterly. “Please, Marco, we both know that he doesn't give a damn if I’m at home or not. He never sees us anyway, and he always gets home after midnight when I’m already asleep. I’m sure that right now, while we’re here, he’s having fun with some prostitute.”Marco didn't respond because he knew I w

Arianna“Let's make a quick stop,” I announced to my bodyguard, who froze when he saw the place I was heading for.I thought I had given the poor guy a couple of heart attacks today, but this was partly his fault. It was his words that had made me wake up, to react to how stupid I was being. I entered the sex shop, with him following me at a safe distance. I started walking through the aisles, and my eyes widened at the number of gadgets I saw. I had always wanted to try one of these, but the fear of being discovered or of hurting my useless husband had kept me from it. But I thought the time had come for me to get rid of him myself. After all, my husband didn't care.“Can I help you with something?”I flinched when I heard a voice behind me. I turned and came face-to-face with a tall, handsome, tattooed guy.“Are you looking for something specific?” he asked with a beautiful smile of perfect teeth.I shook my head to get rid of my lustful, hormonal side. I must be ovulating because t

AriannaAfter a long shower, I got out and prayed for a moment of peace to clear my mind and channel my emotions, drying my hair with the towel.“I think I need a change,” I said, looking at my completely naked self in the mirror.Ilaria had called me a couple of days ago to invite me to train with her. She gave a lame excuse that her body was out of shape because of motherhood, which was completely false. I had seen her in a swimsuit recently, and she was perfect. I knew Ilaria did it for me, and I really appreciated it. At that moment, I was so immersed in my misery that I rejected the offer, but maybe it was time to accept it. It wouldn't hurt to learn self-defense in this shitty world. My parents never allowed it, but I supposed Enzo wouldn't have a problem with it considering his dead wife was apparently a personification of Xena.I got out of the bathroom and looked for something to wear in the closet. My heart was beating fast because I was finally leaving this place.I needed

Tears threatened to spill from my eyes, but I forced them back. I didn’t want to give anyone, not even Marco, the satisfaction of seeing me cry. Still, he noticed. His thumb brushed gently across my cheek, catching the tear before it could fall.“Don’t lose hope, ma’am,” he said softly. “As long as you have life, you have a chance. Keep that hope. Don’t let them steal it from you too.”I knew he was wrong. Hope had been slipping through my fingers since the day I said “I do” to Enzo Romano. Yet, his attempt to comfort me warmed something inside me. It didn’t fix the wound, but it soothed the ache, if only a little.“Thank you,” I whispered. “For worrying. For being here.”“Always. Whenever you need me.” He gave me a small smile, and I returned it before he stepped back. “I should go before anyone notices.”I nodded, but before he reached the door, my voice stopped him.“Marco…”He turned, his expression calm but curious. I swallowed, gathering my courage.“Did you know her?” I asked,
