Chapter Twenty Eight

Maya’s POV

I walked closer to where she was sitting slowly and immediately she sensed my presence, she looked up and the smile on her face became even wider.

“Maya, my darling,” she called out lovingly as she got up with an energy that was surprising to me. She walked towards me with her hands stretched out. Before I could react, she got to me pulled me into a warm hug and I melted in her arms.

She was glowing with joy and it was almost contagious- almost because I could not find the will to be fully happy. “You look absolutely gorgeous. Marriage suits you well, my dear.”

I managed a small smile, though the compliment felt empty. My cheeks turned red but I knew it wasn’t from her compliment but instead from embarrassment and guilt.
