I stared at that last sentence for a very long time.

The black ink looked ordinary, yet it felt like handcuffs already locked around both of my wrists.

Non-cancelable.

I closed the folder slowly. My chest felt tight. My hand almost reached for the pen that had been placed on the bedside table, but I stopped.

No.

I could not sign this tonight because I was not foolish. If I signed it, my life would truly be over.

I put the folder back on the table. I took a deep breath and hugged my knees on the large bed. This room was far too luxurious for me.

That night, I did not sleep.

I only stared at the high ceiling of the room while thinking about one thing. I had to ask again.

The next morning, sunlight streamed in through the large window. I was still wearing last night’s clothes because I had not truly slept.

At exactly eight o’clock, a servant knocked on the door.

“Miss Lucia, Mr. Alexandro is waiting for you for breakfast.”

I swallowed.

All right. This was my chance.

I walked down to the dining room with slow steps. The room was long, with a large wooden table and tall chairs neatly arranged. At the end of the table, he was already seated.

Alexandro De Luca.

He was wearing a dark gray casual suit. His hair was neatly styled. His face was just as cold as it had been last night.

In his hand was a cup of black coffee.

He drank it calmly without even glancing at me.

I stood there for a few seconds before finally sitting in a chair quite far from him. A servant placed breakfast in front of me, but I did not touch it.

He still did not look at me.

As if I were merely part of the room’s decoration.

Annoyance began to creep into my chest.

I might have no power in this house, but I was not a statue.

“I haven’t signed the contract,” I finally said.

There was no reaction. He lifted his cup again and took a slow sip of coffee.

I clenched my fist under the table.

“I want to ask again.”

Silence.

At last, he spoke without turning his head.

“Asking will not change anything.”

His voice was flat and calm.

“I don’t care. This concerns my life.”

He set his cup down slowly on the table. The sound echoed clearly in the silent room, and then he lifted his face.

His gaze pierced straight into me.

“What do you want to know?”

I swallowed, but this time I did not lower my eyes.

“Why me?”

He stared at me for a long moment without blinking.

“I’m not the most beautiful, and you don’t even know me,” I said.

He leaned back in his chair.

“You think this is about beauty?”

“I know this is about my uncle’s debt. Then why not Elena? She could also be forced to become your wife,” I said.

“I don’t like women who are too confident,” Alexandro said.

“And I’m not?”

“You?” He looked at me from head to toe. “You’re trembling just standing there.”

I took a deep breath. “What if I refuse to sign?”

He picked up his napkin and wiped the corner of his lips with a casual movement.

“The wedding will still happen.”

He stood up slowly. His height made his shadow fall over part of my body.

I stood as well without realizing it.

“The contract says you’re free to be with any woman, but I’m not allowed to speak to another man. That’s very unfair,” I said.

He stared at me for a long time.

“This marriage is not about fairness.”

“Then what is it about?”

“Control.”

One word.

Simple.

Cruel.

I felt something inside me shift, no longer just fear. A small anger began to grow.

“I’m not a doll,” I said softly but clearly.

He stepped closer. The distance between us was now too close. I could smell the faint masculine scent from his body.

“You’d better stay quiet and follow my orders,” Alexandro said.

I lifted my chin, forcing myself to look at him without stepping back.

“My position is not beneath your feet.”

“You’re getting bold,” he said.

“I just don’t want to be treated like this,” I replied.

He was silent for a few seconds, then said, “Sign the contract.”

“Answer one more question.”

He did not respond immediately.

“What?”

“If this is only about control and debt, why don’t you look satisfied? Why do you keep watching me as if there’s something you’re searching for?” I asked.

The room seemed to tighten. For a fraction of a second, his expression changed. Very slight. Almost invisible. Then he returned to being cold.

“You think too much.”

“That’s not an answer.”

He stepped back.

“You will sign that contract today.”

“I won’t,” I answered.

He looked at me sharply.

“Don’t test my patience, Lucia.”

His voice was not raised, but it was enough to send a chill down my spine.

He turned around and walked out of the dining room without looking back.

I stood there alone, my hands trembling, no longer from fear but from frustration.

He did not look at me while drinking his coffee, but every time I fought back, his eyes changed.

I looked at his cup, still half full at the end of the table.

His words echoed in my mind.

All right.

If that was what he thought of me, perhaps it was time for him to learn that he was wrong.

I turned and walked back to my room.

The black folder was still lying on the table. I stared at it for a long time before sitting down.

My hand touched the pen.

My eyes fell on the clause that had made my chest tighten last night.

Feelings were not included in the agreement.

A faint smile curved my lips.

In that case...

He would never be ready to face what he could not control about me, and I began to arrange my own little plan.

Once I arrived home, I went straight up to the bedroom. My body still felt a bit tired after the exhausting morning at the clinic. I changed into comfortable clothes, then sat on the edge of the bed."Fly me to the moon... Let me play among the stars..."I sang softly, not loud, not for anyone. Just to shake off the remnants of nervousness still settled in my chest. My voice flowed gently, filling the quiet room."Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars..."I remembered my childhood. When I still had a father and mother. My phone buzzed.I looked at the screen. Mia."Hello?""Lucia, I want to meet.""Where?" I asked."The park near your house. I'm already here."I didn't wait any longer. I ran out of the room, down the hallway, through the living room, out the front door. I didn't tell Alexandro. I didn't want him interfering, and I didn't want him sending Marco or Gianna to "supervise" my meeting with Mia.The park near the house was quiet. Just a few wooden benches under

Lucia's POVInside the car, on the way home from the clinic, the atmosphere felt lighter. Maybe because the burden of the sperm test was over. Maybe because Fabio managed to make Alexandro a bit more relaxed with his annoying jokes. Or maybe because I myself could finally breathe easier knowing that my uterus was healthy, that there was no problem on my end, that I wasn't infertile.I looked at my husband who was driving. I don't know where Marco was that Alexandro had to drive himself."Hubby," I called."What.""In that room, who were you imagining?"Alexandro didn't answer."I'm serious. Who? Those sexy women you used to sleep with? Or Doctor Reina? Or Nadine? Or whoever those women were?"Alexandro sighed. "You don't want to know.""I do. That's why I'm asking."He was silent for a moment, then he said, "I can't imagine other women."I blinked. "What?""I tried. I really tried. But every time I pictured their faces, what came wasn't arousal, but nausea. I almost threw up. Seriousl

Author's Pov.Alexandro was escorted to a special room at the end of the hallway. The room was small, clean, with dim lighting. A soft sofa in the center, a sink in the corner, and a sterile plastic container on the table, the container for his sample. Fabio gave him brief instructions with a professional face, then left and closed the door."Don't take too long," Fabio said from behind the door. "I'll be waiting outside."Alexandro stood in the room alone. His eyes scanned the surroundings. The walls were covered with posters of adult women. Women with perfect bodies, sexy poses, seductive smiles. Long hair, smooth skin, large breasts, slim waists, long legs.Alexandro stared at those posters. Beautiful faces. Gorgeous bodies. Women who might have aroused him in the past. But now?He felt nauseous. He imagined Lucia's face. That innocent face, sometimes pouting, sometimes smiling wide, sometimes crying. A face not found on those posters. A face he never saw in magazines or advertisem

The next day, we went to the maternity clinic. A luxurious clinic in an elite neighborhood, owned by Alexandro's best friend, Doctor Fabio. A man who was always sarcastic, always joking, but also always serious when it came to health.I sat in the cold examination room, wearing a special gown that was open at the stomach. Alexandro stood beside me, his hand gripping mine tightly. His face was blank, but I could feel his nervousness from the way he bit his lower lip slightly."Relax," I whispered."I am relaxed.""You're biting your lip."He immediately let go. "No, I'm not."I smiled.Fabio walked in wearing his white coat. His hair was still the same, a bit messy, a thin mustache, a mischievous smile that made anyone want to hit him. In his hand, he carried a handheld ultrasound device."Hello, prettiest patient today," Fabio greeted me. His eyes shifted to Alexandro. "And the sourest patient of all time.""Just get started," Alexandro said coldly.Fabio laughed softly. He applied co

I sat on the sofa in Alexandro's office, my eyes closed.Marco.He entered with his usual firm stride, tablet in hand, face blank without expression. His black suit was neat, his hair perfectly styled, not a speck of dust on his clothes. He walked to Alexandro's desk, bowed respectfully, then placed the tablet on the mahogany wood."Sir, the contract documents with the Singapore partner are ready. Please sign on the last page."Alexandro took a pen and signed without reading. I stared at Marco from the sofa. His calm face, his always polite demeanor, the faint smile he often showed—all of it made me sick.Marco. The same man who approached Mia. The same man who terrified my friend half to death. The same man who, with his sweet smile, destroyed the friendship I had just built."Marco," I called. He turned. His face changed slightly—not surprised, but curious. Then he smiled. A smile that made me want to throw a pillow at his face."Yes, Madam?" His voice was polite. Too polite. Like a

"Ahhh... ahhh... ouhhh... mmmmhh..."My moans were still soft in that room. Not completely faded yet. My body was still trembling, still feeling his warmth flooding me from the inside. I closed my eyes, enjoying the remnants of pleasure still pulsing at every nerve ending.Alexandro was still inside me, not wanting to pull out. His breath was still heavy on my neck. His arms were still wrapped tightly around my waist."We're a mess," he whispered."I know.""Papers on the floor.""Leave them.""A pen in the corner.""Marco will clean it up."He laughed softly. The vibration of his laugh traveled through my body, making me smile. I opened my eyes. And I saw the door open.An old man stood at the threshold. His face was friendly, a smile on his lips, wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, a warm gaze. Behind him, two large men in black jackets stood upright.Abraham De Luca. Alexandro's father.I was shocked. Half hysterical. I pushed Alexandro, still inside me, still half connected, but

The priest began to recite the prayer in a steady voice that echoed throughout the church. I stood still beside Alexandro, my hands feeling stiff as I held the bouquet.
